I've just trained up on Minmater BS and I'm trying to decide which to get.
I'm currently running level 3s in a shield tanked Cyclone, and plan on moving up to level 4s soon (depending on how the 3s go). From what I've read the BSs are better suited to armor tanks, which I currently have no experience with.
Is the Tempest worth the extra 20mil for the base ship or am I better spending that money on a better fitting for a Typhoon ?

Well I bought the Tempest.
It has enough MIDs to just transfer my shield tank over from the Cyclone, and added a damage control to the LOWs to give me a bit more time if/when the shields fail to warp out.
I currently have 2x 1200mm, 2x 800mm, 2x 650mm and 2x heavy launchers. It's not the best setup but it's what I had/can afford right now, I've also added 3x gyros to boost the accuracy/damage of the guns.
I'll tweak the setup whilst doing the level 3s and as I afford new guns, after seeing what hits the best.

Well I got my new Tempest, asked my agent for a mission. He gave me Massive Attack, I thought great this should be much easier in a BS than a BC.
I warped into the first area and opened fire .... I couldn't hit a thing with any of my large guns, but at least I could sit there taking a beating for longer in the BS.
I ended up doing the mission in my Cyclone in the end. So I think I need to do some major changes to my setup in the BS now. I had 3x gyros in the LOWs which I thought would help me actually hit the enemy ships.

I only have about 2mil SP so far, gunnery is at 5 but drones is at 3.
I will start working on the drone and targetting skills next.
I'm only doing the level 3s right now, don't plan on hitting 4s until I get the hang of actually hitting what I'm aiming at.

It looks like I'm just low on the skills then
Currently I have :
Controlled Bursts 4
Gunnery 5
Large Projectile 2(3 in 5 hours)
Motion Prediction 3
Rapid Firing 3
Sharpshooter 3
Trajectory Analysis 1
Weapon Upgrades 3
I will switch to Trajectory Analysis and try using a painter and web later.
I normally try to engage at 40-50km, but the Massive Attack mission just droped me right in the middle of swarms of ships and didn't give that option, I would probably have been better off if the mission had been different.
I want to stay with the shield tank for now as it means I can use the same hardeners as I used on the Cyclone without learning even more skills yet.
