With the recently introduced Gecko giving us a taste of what heavy drones will do post Kronos are armor Ishtars armed with heavy drones the future meta of wh space?
Ishtar with 2 Gecko 2 hammerheads 1 hob unfit are sitting at 600dps. And that's with my mediocre drone skills!
3 rr armor ishtars sporting 2 flights of geckos and 1 flight of sentries can engage anything within 70kms with good effect. Within heavy range they will put out a blistering 2400 dps, at 50kms they can put down a respectable 12-1500 dps, and will be able to tank 1-2k dps. These things are monsters!
Oh you want to go roaming in null/low? Just shield fit it and its now a kity beast that puts out 800dps if heavies can keep up. Otherwise you got plenty of space for a flight of mediums/lights plus a flight of sentries.
If you don't have ishtars trained already... what are you doin with your life?

If you go roaming lowsec with heavy drone ishtars you are going to have a very bad time. |

Not like smartbombing armortengus are pretty much standard for a lot of wh corps/alliances .......
Geckos will die very fast in any kind of larger combat, that beeing said .... yes i like ishtars ;) |

Exactly, most fights hug holes. Which means your drones are safe from smartbombs. Ishtars give bonus to drone hit points so heavies have about 5k hp and Geckos have even more. Unless you got a dedicated smartbomb bs those drones can take a few smart bomb hits. If they have a dedicated sb bs you primary first. Say you lose a flight to smartbombs. You just drop another set... you can carry 3 flights!

Unless I am missing something about geckos being producable. Then their supply will be finite.
And if null uses them en masse like I am hearing rumours of, then they will become very rare quickly.
Enjoy them while you can, I think they should be fun for a while. Don't be surprised when the enemy switches to killing your drones tho. I know I will be enjoying them in my EOS. 5 with heavy drone speed and tracking bonus, will be great for a while. |

Has anyone done the math on how much DPS these are going to put out after the nerf to Drone Interfacing with Kronos? Since CPP has said that the Gecko has been adjusted to post-Kronos values already, unlike all other drones. |

If you get enough of these on you to matter, you're not going to get rid of them with smart bombs before you die. These things chew through you like there's no tomorrow. There are counters, but don't rely on smart bombs especially if used with a Rattle post-Expansion.

We love ishtars..a lot ^-^
However, something is not OP because your normal doctrine doesn't counter it :P you need to adapt to what you're facing. Geckos are pretty insane based on the brief look at them I've taken, but it's still a heavy drone. Just move fast and kite. Armor Ishtars aren't exactly fast.
There are counters to everything with some creative thinking, so don't cry nerf so quickly
I concur that the gecko is insane though, they've made a subcap fighter \o/ |

Don't forget that drone skills are getting nerfed. Fozzie already said that geckos have Kronos stats currently so they won't be getting any planned changes.

I concur. Heavy drone DPS application is far too slow and unreliable to be effective in most situations. Sentrishtars will continue to be king. (I am not looking forward to training all of the Drone specializations to V, though.)

Drone Proteus will never be badass until it gets the 125 bandwidth it deserves and the drone bay slightly expanded so it can compete with the "inferior" Ishtar.

Yip, always weirded me out that it only has 100 bandwidth. But still that's a pair of Gecko's and prots do have a lot of low slots. |

IMHO I feel ishtar is a lil OP with its speed & damage app, and some people have found ways to get some pretty ridiculous shield tanks out of them, and ASB tanks last forever as cargo isn't really used for ammo.... |
