I wasn't sure which forum would be best for this, so after 20 minutes of indecision I plumped for this one.
Fans of video game music are frequently remaking and remixing tracks, from vintage games to some of the latest titles (OverClocked ReMix, VGmix) - so why should EVE be an exception? Jon Hallur has done an excellent job with the music of EVE, some of which is genuinely memorable and definately helps enhance the atmosphere of EVE. Even those of us who largely play with the music muted (for whatever reason) will have a handful of tracks that they enjoy.
The first track to make my favourites list was Red Glowing Dust - one of the more melodic pieces in the game. This is actually why I chose to remix it (since many of the tracks I like are more about sound than anything else). This remix kinda just *happened*. I was talking about remixing and the EVE music in my corp and then got carried away in my sequencer one evening. It's not entirely finished and could certainly do with some polish in places.
Anyway, if you enjoy it let me know. If you hate it, please give constructive criticism - I don't care if you think I suck or it's the worst thing you've ever heard. ;)
So here it is: Red Glowing Dust Remix MP3
PS. If there are any other EVE remixes out there, I'd love to hear them!

Originally by: Caethes Adain Not too sure about this one, it's not bad as such it just reminds me of the usual generic trance mixes of...well, every tune ever tranced up.
Hehe. Guilty as charged.
I've heard plenty of "trance" remixes out there. In this case I'd already started on something similar (an original track), reused a few components and found they kinda worked. Well, for me anyway. Still, got the beeeeewww beeeww-beewwww beeeeewww bassy things in there. What more could you want?

The notes are pretty much as in the original btw. I didn't change anything there. Perhaps it's the beat that made it go happy? |

Originally by: R3dSh1ft I understand you may need to be inspired to work on stuff, but if you could make another track - below the asteroids, i'll sponser you 200m
I'm easily bought.
Ah, another melodic one. Not too sure what I'd do with it though. I'll have to think on it.

Not really. Last track I actually finished was over a year ago and it's not all that great. Before that, well, you're looking at 2000. I'm rarely focussed or inspired enough to get anything done.
*slouch!*

Btw, my favourites are:
Red Glowing Dust Below the Asteroids Do You Know Where You Are I Saw Your Ship Hidden Mementos Omens Something Old, Something New Surplus of Rare Artifacts Minmatar Rebel Alliance Amongst Allies
...and most importantly, Stellar Shadows, which was the splash theme back when I started playing EVE. I think it's practically criminal that this is no longer the case! It sounds kinda epic to me. Considering a remix there, but I don't know if I could do it justice.

Hrmm, I wasn't aware of a difference. I'll have to extract it now. I know a couple of the others are definitely better in-game than the website versions.

Originally by: Tatsue Nuko I'd definitely love to see what you can do with Below the Asteroids, too.
And so the pressure builds!
I've just been playing it on the keyboard... and it sounds much better in my head. |

Go ahead. Just be sure to credit Jon and myself (as Whiteraven).

It's weird how everyone wants Below The Asteroids. It must be the most popular track in EVE!
I now have a sequence with all the notes at the correct timings for this track, but sorry to disappoint you guys - it probably isn't going to be the next thing I work on. It'd be way too easy to turn it into another blippy tune and I'm not feeling inspired enough to give it more depth.
Instead I've just started work on a remix of "Lost Wormhole" in a different style. As with the Red Glowing Dust remix I don't expect it to be anything groundbreaking (I don't possess Jon's leet skillz), but I'll try to at least make it interesting. If I get it finished that is...
Stay tuned.

Originally by: RealX GM I really brings out the Jarre in my music.
Hehe! That's what I said too. I think it's those blips that do it.
I don't know... as frustrating as it can be, it's probably more rewarding for me to work out the notes myself. I'll have your studio though if you don't mind.
Anyway, back to work on Lost Wormhole. It sounds rubbish right now because I was forced to work with cheap headphones last night.

Some of it reminds me of the music from the 2nd radio series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Originally by: SpaceDrake Storyteller Well, what I mean is, Lost Wormhole is one of the songs I'm less fond of than others, and I'm unsure what could be done with it.
Oh, I already know what to do with it... I just hope that it won't suck! It has to be at least as good as the previous one and it's going to take some work to get the right sound, ie. a non-sucky sound.

...Live?
Where do I go for live EVE music? What's the number for the boxoffice?
Originally by: Kyoko Sakoda I'd like to see Below the Asteroids, Stellar Shadows, and Primordial Star Clouds remixed myself.
Stellar Shadows... *gurgles from down on the floor*...
I've already worked out the notes for that, but I don't think I'd dare try to do something with it. It's too awesome for me to touch. Jon should post a high quality recording of it instead for us to worship.
I'd also love to remix "I Saw Your Ship", but again I don't think I could do it justice.

Originally by: SpaceDrake Storyteller Now here we agree. My favorite track after Below the Asteroids. So dooooo eeeeet.
But I'll make it poo and then the tide of public enthusiasm will become much less friendly and I'll be left at the end of it rocking back and forth in the corner of a dark and empty room, crying myself to sleep.
Perhaps I'll try something a little more ambitious if I first succeed with Lost Wormhole.

They really shouldn't. They've already got Jon, who is uber. I'm uh... not uber.

Nope. In fact my musical output is really quite sparse. I'm too lazy, uninspired, and without drive.

The "bleeps" were a bell/chime-like sound in the original... or "glingle" as I think of them.

Tempting, but it still depends on whether I get something going that I like. If I think it sucks then there's no way anyone else will be hearing it.

I got played in a nightclub? And between two trance classics too?! That's uh... cool!
Sorry for the slow reply there, but I figured this thread was done with. I only came back to look because I was forced to burn off a copy of this track today for some family gathering.
Sadly no progress with the 'Lost Wormhole' remix yet. The sound just isn't working for me.

Originally by: Erik Pathfinder I've seen a few people request that you do some more remixes, and while it must overwhelm you, I can't resist making a request myself.
It's not up to me. I'm lazy, rarely inspired, and a perfectionist. So when I do start working on some music, I usually throw it out because I think it's not good enough. I trust my judgement and only release tracks when I'm satisfied that they're suitable.
I mean, I agree with some of the criticisms posted here about it being rather cheesy and unoriginal, but I wasn't trying to be a genre-busting trend-setter. I think I covered the main elements of the track in an interesting new way while remaining faithful to the original and that's all that matters to me. Well, that sounded good, but mostly I did it because it was a laugh and I had enough focus to get it done in this instance.
I'll certainly have a fiddle in my sequencer again soon and see if I have any more success. If I can't get 'Lost Wormhole' to work, I'll try something else... though my corp will probably keep me kinda busy over the next couple weeks.
To the guy who was asking what setup I'm using - the information is on the first page. And the other guy who was asking about Reason - sorry, never really used it. |

Originally by: Snikkt I was wondering if anyone, including Whiteraven is still out there redoing this stuff?
I'm still here, and still procrastinating my time away! The remix of Lost Wormhole I started is still no closer to completion, but I'm scouring the jukebox for tracks to toy with. I hope to release another EVE remix one day, but sadly it's not today. I'll let you know when that day comes. :P |
