Okay... now! No more messing around! Send someone over to the Titan and Mothership thread... or the Mod gets it!!
EDIT - The gun is fake and not loaded. (shhhh!) I would never hurt an innocent moderator.
1, I am not innocent. 2, If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine... 3, Apart from the fact the devs doesn't actually have to reply to posts, it was a holiday yesterday and people usually take fridays off to get a 4 day weekend.

There are a lot of CTD complaints since Blood. Most of themcan't be cured by turing off sound.

What's funny is before RMR I was getting CTD's all the time. Running two accounts was almost impossible.
Then RMR came around and fixed everything. I can now window, maximise, window etc as often as I want and never CTD.
It fixed it for me but made some people I know experience CTD's like I was before the RMR patch. -=====-

Last time i sent a .dmp file with a bugreport, i was told that eve had crashed in a way that was impossible, and hence therefore it had to be my machine. I actually only get 2 types of CTDs on my dual core machine (bad dual core support?).
The first one is the random one that happens usually when changing system. For some reason it happens mostly when i travel in high trafic systems through empire on autopilot. Sometimes its really bad, and crashes every 5 jumps, sometimes it doesnt crash at all.
The other one is related to tabbing in and out of the game which i run in fullscreen (no im not going to run windowed). Sometimes when trying to change back into eve, it just stalls, nothing showing up when clicking the taskbar icon. I can fix this by doing alt+enter twice, eg going out of fullscreen and back in, but for some reason, when i do this eve will ALWAYS crash in a short random amount of time after that.
I believe i have already sent a bugreport about the last issue, but as you know, you never hear from those bugreports again. Im just wondering if im the only one that gets the last issue described here.

The client is buggy.
Really buggy.
Like really omgwtfyoukidding buggy.
Undocking to black screens still happens. Undocking to black screens which last for 3 minutes still happens and waking up in clone vats makes it really annoying.
Running two clients with one of them suddenly vanishing. Network graphs show no problems, its a client-server problem.
Your client is buggy and fortunately you have your EULA to back you up in not having to make sure your clients have a semi-operational game.
Lose a ship because of a glitch in the system. Sorry, not in my log (I would so love to find out one day just what you do log).
Unable to activate modules? Sorry, not in my log. Unable to de-activate modules? Sorry, your X-Large shield booster not turning off isn't in my log.

Its not my ISP. The issue is with the game client. I am also running a Dual Core Processor as mentioned by another of the posters here - however my second machine is not dual core and still has the issue (Although admittedly far far less often).

For this type of CTD issue (and yes, it 'doesnt happen to me'Ö) please follow the steps listed here. The most important part is to include the .dmp file created in a subfolder of your Eve folder called "Logs" (eg. "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\Logs"), as this will give the programmers the best information about what is causing the problem.
I think I've only bugreported once or twice so far, but the issues had nothing to do with CTD. What I found out is that bugreporting is boring, and really not something CCP should ask its customer to do. UNLESS, there is some kind of reward for every valid and unreported bug. Just the same way people get paid ISK for writing in EON, or being rewarded for inviting their friends to play EVE. Just an idea
The "reward" for submitting bug reports is that the bugs and issues that cause ctds gets fixed faster, or do you seriously expect them to go through every line of code and suddenly cry out "AHA! By Crickey I've found the Error and no mistake chaps!!".
Given that there are a huge range of differences between player PCs having the players submit bug reports saves alot of time and effort and may uncover the source of bugs that otherwise would never have been discovered.

Once again ignorant and uneducated answer. These get me mad
I've had the ctd problems since the day I began playing EVE. 9 mo or so ago. Since then I've done several hardware upgrades and driver updates and these have not solved the problem. I've had ctd's with integrated soundcard. CTD's without sound. With sound. Playing in windowed mode, fullscreen, higher resolution, lower resolution, full/no effects, 16-bit, aniso/AA/without and the combination of these. No virus scan running, disabled the software firewall (hardware firewall runninng though).
The ctd is the plain crash to desktop with no error messages. (no connection lost and reloading the login screen). I've run the login server which in time of a ctd shows nothing intelligent, no clear errors (should I sent this to somewhere?). The CTD's can happen in any situation, even when logging in the first time before getting in to the ingame enviroment. In stations. Mostly during kill missions, jumping warpgates and changing systems. No clear systematic case. In 95% of the CTD's I'm able to login within a few seconds of a crash.
I've upgraded the PSU to Antec 450W, upgraded the GPU R9500Pro/R9800Pro/X850XT, many different driver revisions (cleaned the old ones before uninstalling new ones). Reinstalled directX. Upgraded my motherboard drivers. New soundcard Creative X-Fi. New adsl modem 2MB/1MB connection. The system can be stressed without crashes (Prime95 heavy on memory). Eve usually uses around 160MB of memory.
And I know the program can run troble free as I've installed my parents comp which while not being a powerfull machine can run EVE CTD free (different city, different ISP). ------------------------------------------------- AWM Corp is Recruiting

You sound like someone who never submitted a bug report or the one man who had a bug fixed soon-ish-ly after submitting one.
There are still bugs floating around who were bug reported (with dumps, screenshots, full writeups) over 2 years ago and when they were brought up in dev chats over a year ago were "news to them". And still seem to be.

If the game's crashing for you but not for everyone else, then it's at least partially down to your machine config. If it was just the client, then everybody would experience the same problems. I personally haven't had an actual CTD (as opposed to a disco) since forever. I've had my graphics corrupt because the cooling on my VRAM is dodgy and Eve apparently stresses your VRAM far more than other apps, but that's still an issue with my rig, due to an unusual property of the client.

My suspicion is that it's the combination of the client and the machine. I.e. buggy on some systems. Why else would it just drop to desktop without any error messages. Sometimes the ctd's happen back to back within a minute of each other. After that the game can be played for hours without ctd's.
I'm nearing the age group when I have the chance to try out the capital ships, but with these ctd's I dont think a carrier is a wortwhile investment and thus severly limits my play choices. Continue with the sub or not?
Most likely has something to do with communications. ------------------------------------------------- AWM Corp is Recruiting

Edited by: Too Kind on 26/05/2006 12:32:42 Obviously you really have to send bug reports with logs from the log server.
How do you want to find the reason for a cdt, if it doesn't happen on your machine and you have no logs, description, nothing ? My last cdt happend ... don't know, must have been weeks ago. ( Ok, I play without sounds and usually with all effects off. )
Ok, my graphics card sometimes crashes / the system locks up with two clients and it forces me to reboot, but seems to be a problem with my machine. Happens usually once every few days. Other than that I only experience common problems like lag, lag-warping out after jumping with a fleet, extreme loading lag in pvp, when I enter the grid and stuff like that.
But almost no cdts. If my computer was the machine of a developer and someone said: 'Fix the cdts !', I'd wonder which cdts. -> detailed bug report and logs needed. -------------------------- Post with your main !!!111 |

Sorry, I've missed the point. Do you WANT bugs to be fixed or not? Without real reports (and bug-reports have nothing to do with "Oh, damn, I've CTDed four times yesterday!") bug are unlikely to be fixed. If dev is not able to reproduce your problem - it won't be fixed. --- Regards, Z |

Why? I dunno, I did not change anything on my machine/software/drivers etc.

no my other account(s) run on a modern computer without a soundcard (built it for EVE) because only listen to my main account puppet sounds, and i still crash or a series of crashes..., infact the computer for my main account crashes less and that one has a creative card...

Same issues as me, I have two clients running... my alt is solid and never crashes but alas my main goes down hourly.
I'm following the steps and so far no joy, I'll add the usual stuff about how nothing on this system I use (alot of games, mmorpgs) never crash and my connection is solid.
There insisting on a bloody 60 min ping plotter session, so off I go... Guess we have to go through the motions.
just don't accept any crap about it's your connection... oh and I sent a crash dump report which they seem to be ignoring.
Something on the eve client just doesn't like something on some systems.

Edited by: Mather Maelstrom on 26/05/2006 14:13:09 Seleene you can fly a different ship or stop producing motherships/ titans for awhile People like me with this problem can't play the game anymore, because every time I crash it's in a fight and every time a scrambler would be involved I would lose a ship.
I think this deserves some priority. Since this thread here has been spotted by a DEV, and no solution has arrived by e-mail from customer support, I would like to point out the other gamers that are also dealing with this problem: 23 pages long: click 4 pages long: click 3 pages long: click 1 page: click 1 page: click 1 page: click There are probably more threads that could be spotted.
Not one of the suggested solutions by players seems to work. I want the eve back where I used my bandwidth idling in Jita outside a station for hours.

I get this too, CTD caused by some sort of network lag. It happens more frequently in the peak hours on EVE and always happens if I don't do anything for just 2 or 3 minutes. If I'm in space for example and I don't move my ship every 30 seconds I get a connection drop, which is REALLY annoying in any sort of PVP environment because every time it happens I need to get re ganged, re position myself and then pray I don't get booted again 2 minutes later.
This just started recently, after the latest round of hardware upgrades to the cluster itself (not the DB). I think it might have something to do with my connection, but that's not where all the blame lies. It seems like my connection drops packets once in a while (or they're dropped closer to server side) and that EVE fails completely at recovering from this. If I don't send fresh packets continuously the connection just gets axed and I get booted to desktop.

Yeah well my ctd's happen regardless of sound being on or off. It's something network related, as it doesn't crash the game just loses connection with the server.

If turning off sound "Fixes" the problem, then the problem is somethign that CCP needs to fix. A game without sound is like life without sight. You miss a LOT.
When i first started playing in Jan, I'd get at least a CTD every 3hrs or so. This is on two totally different comptuers, both next to me.
one system uses an intel, one amd, one has a onboard sound, other is a SB Audigy 2, one has a high end vid card, other a low end.. and so on. But they'd both crash at the same time. Running ping plotter it's that one damned jump in London.
Why can't the CCP tech staff run some sort of test for a week, monitoring that node somehow. It COULD be a hardware/software problem at that point. I was very leary about playing an MMO that wasn't based in north america due to distance/lag issues. But during the 14 day trial it seemed ok. I thought the CTD's were due to something on my PC at the time. So I did a full format/reinstall(do it every 3 months anyways) but they've still kept happening.
I hate it, but from the months of reading the forums, I realise that this is somethign that CCP is unable/unwilling to fix, so I just ignore it. Then again.. I've never lost a ship to it. I'm sure I'd be a little peeved off if I lost a 1 Billion isk ship with a Billion Isk in modules/weapons on it....
