I was wondering if we could get an official reply to explain the lack of asteroid respawns. Is it to stay as it is or are we experiencing some kind of bug atm. It seems even the low end roids are not growing too . Not a moan, I'm just wondering.

The roid code will get fixed when Deep Core Mining is introduced.

Edited by: s0cks on 23/09/2003 11:29:18 i think i remember from a discussion once that TomB said the roids are growing as they should, and they at CCP, did not expect corps to strip mine belts so fast. i think that when a roid is fully mined, it will respawn the next day with less ore inside.. then again the next day etc... if its not mined it grows a little more the next day.
asteroids in belts that have never been mined (such as the very very few arkanor belts) will apparently hold enough ore to last a lifetime (almost).
oh and yer.. they say that deep core mining will probably balance it out a lot more as people tactifully choose certain roids, and others are left to grow or sommin.

The main problem appears to be that a belt can hold a limited ammount of ore only.
If you mine all the Bistot roids but leave the rest untouched there'll be no more room for Bistot to respawn after a few days - it's all gone into those nasty big Veldspar and Scordite rocks. The problem of baby roids could thus be overcome by stripmining in 0.0 :P

also, mentioned, think of it as "crop rotation". tomb said they expected corps to mine a system and move on, thus giving the belts time to grow back.
but us players are lazy and thus try to stay in the same place as much as possible, so the belts are not getting time to grow.

Bottom line is it's broke, mining the scordite planets will cause bistot roids to grow back(slightly) bigger. But who really wants to mine scordite when mobs are popping in the belt 12 to 15 at time.
... you will see more and more marketing which in turn will bring you more players to torture. |

This whole crop rotation / managing field can NEVER work in the game as currently implemented. You spend a week mining out the veld and scord from a 0.0 belt to make the bistot grow. Some guy scouts it and within a few hours him and his buddy have mined out the bistot you put a week into growing. This isn't a mistake or misjudging.. its bad design.

Now if you could put a couple of forcefields and sentry guns into a belt...
