Hello everyone!
In Kronos we are introducing 20 new ship skins for the ship skinning pilot program, 12 in the revamped New Eden Store and 8 that can only be obtained through exploration in low security space.
All of these skinned ships will be visible on the market with the next SISI update and I'll see about getting them seeded for you fine people to test and enjoy as soon as possible.
The 12 skins available in the New Eden Store will be familiar to some of you, as they have been in the client files for a few months now. They represent a second cosmetic skin choice for the same 12 ships that can currently be customized through skins purchased in the NeX store. They are:
- Punisher Tash-Murkon Edition
- Merlin Wiyrkomi Edition
- Rifter Nefantar Edition
- Incursus Innerzone Shipping Edition
- Omen Tash-Murkon Edition
- Caracal Wiyrkomi Edition
- Stabber Nefantar Edition
- Thorax Innerzone Shipping Edition
- Abaddon Tash-Murkon Edition
- Rokh Wiyrkomi Edition
- Maelstrom Nefantar Edition
- Hyperion Innerzone Shipping Edition
I'm very excited to announce that we will also be adding more skins available through purely ingame achievement in Kronos. These will be 8 skins that can be obtained only through exploration in low security space. More information about the sites that these blueprints will drop in will come in the near future. These skins are (including some links to web renders on a third party site for those of you who cannot wait until the SISI update):
These skins should be visible in the next SISI update, and we'll be collecting feedback here. Game Designer | Team Five-0 https://twitter.com/CCP_Fozzie

Regarding ship skins, I had kind of a wild idea to help sell them; a long term, requires-additional-development type of idea.
Right now, ship skins are very difficult to actually see on other players. You can see your own in stations when you're ship spinning, but nearly everyone else's skins are invisible, aside from the overview.
To help this, perhaps implement a "kill cam" when you are podded. In games like Team Fortress 2, when you're killed, the camera zooms to a shot of the player who killed you for a few moments, allowing you to see their festoons and hats. Right now, when you're podded, you get a vignette showing your frozen corpse. Perhaps this vignette could also pan towards a shot of your killer as well, for a few moments, before fading to black. This would allow anyone who is podded to see their killer (and their sweet NEX store skin!)
This vignette could easily be fake and not really exist, like the frozen corpse vignette is now. It could be informed by what is going on in the grid you're in, but doesn't necessarily have to represent reality.
I feel like greater visibility for ship skins will go a long way to help sell them, and it'll look cool to boot. This post was crafted by a member of the Goonswarm Economic Warfare Cabal, the foremost authority on Eve: Online economics and gameplay. |

Hey! How about some love for the Indy Pilots that exist also, Great and all I can skin my Combat ships.. But how about some Hulk/mak/skiff/ Orca/ Rorqual and the barges or Ventures... Or even our viators... Currently I have to spend $149 To get a rorqual Skin... Meanwhile the PVP side of even can just aurum or LP it all...

First of all, a huge thank you for all the love you've been showing low sec lately. I look forward to seeing the details of how to obtain them. I've seriously always wanted the blood raider ship skins the npcs fly
Some substantive comments though: I really suggest you take a look at Ripard Teg's blog post about what the pricing of the store ship skins ought to be http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2014/05/zen-and-art-of-monetization.html I think he is exactly correct--if the skins were the same price as the average rig for the respective ship type, I and many other players would skin many more ships. As of now, I fly each only occasionally as sort of a gimmick. |

Also! Thisthisthis.
I'm not likely to skin a basic Raven, because for my carebearing I tend to use a RNI; but if I could skin a Raven Navy Issue, I'd totally do it. Similarly, I'm likely to engage in skinning shenanigans with a Tengu, or god help me a Chimera or Phoenix-- though in those cases, they'd have to be in-game achievable or not like carrying a $50 come-shoot-me sign on my shiny ship.

Because its so hard to create a "special" rig slot just for ship skins? There's no reason to reinvent the wheel guys. Give everyone rigs in the store instead and this gets rid of that stupid bpc edge case as well (aka cost to produce the item in the new industry changes) |

Theyd basically have to separate item ID from art/asset-ID. I dont know much about programming but i can bet theres alot of other annoyign crap aswell.
Though I would like to see at soem point maybe a small price reduction to the skins, as it is, for someone on pvp-with-a-budget, cant really bling out a ship im likely to lose, if i could get 4 or 5 skins for the price of 1 right now though, id be buying a bunch. |

My concern with some of these designs is that they represent a closing of doors in some regards.
By releasing, for instance, a 'serpentis skinned brutix' that has regular brutix stats, you close the door on ever getting an actual serpentis brutix. By making these ships just skins, you make it so they can never be unique ships.
I would rather not get the skins, and get actual pirate destroyer and battlecruisers.

These don't actually rule out future ships using similar skins. So far we have avoided overlap since we have so few skins anyways, but we reserve the right to make pirate battlecruisers and destroyers using these skins or variations of these skins sometime in the future.

Its jot as easy as want it to be. How will the new skins be shown to other players.?You would have send part of fit (stored separatly from main repository) to everyone on grid. Will this cause more lag? Will this cause slowdowns of pc in large fights? If at some point static skins wilp be replaced by what we saw in fanfest you no longer have to store and send one identifier.
The skin became complex definition of colors, shapes and positions that as we know is not easy to put in an item.
You need to solve those and probably much more problems before you can release it to public. Read and support: Don't mess with OUR WH's What is Your stance on WH stuff? |

Theyd basically have to separate item ID from art/asset-ID. I dont know much about programming but i can bet theres alot of other annoyign crap aswell. Though I would like to see at soem point maybe a small price reduction to the skins, as it is, for someone on pvp-with-a-budget, cant really bling out a ship im likely to lose, if i could get 4 or 5 skins for the price of 1 right now though, id be buying a bunch.
Its only difficult because thats the way it was coded to begin with... |

Interesting... Has the program worked well enough yet that CCP wants to invest the time into making these skins something more like a rig slot rather than entirely new ships? We are indeed continuing to work towards tech that will allow possible future implementations. We showed some of the work going into the ship customization tech at the EVE keynote at Fanfest. That customization demo was amaxing. It'll be fun to get ahold of that some time in the future :)
Also, please don't leave CCP, we'd really miss you :( |

Definitely need to have the "SOE" Moros and the Nike Megathron.
Also, can we please get away from using camo on a spaceship? The Thukker tribe, if not the rest of the Minmatar, should know better.
Also, whoever the Aesir Empire is, I want all their ships. |

However, we have no current plans to do so.
Pirate BC's should be unique hull designs, anyway. That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right... |

I guess I'll go against the flow here and say that pirate faction "skins" need to be restricted for actual pirate faction ships only. It tremendously cheapens the actual pirate factions if I can take a regular, run-of-the-mill Prophecy and make it "a Blood Raider Prophecy."
If you guys want pirate BCs and Destroyers, then add in actual pirate BCs and pirate destroyers. Until then, reserve those hallowed paint schemes for those unique ships that straddle the lines between two ship lines. Normal, non-pirate paint schemes are fun, but cheapening those actual pirate ship lines with what amounts to knock-offs really isn't cool.

They obviously have rank and file ships, it makes sense that there are unbonused pirate ships.

Desperate much? They have unique hulls where it is in line with the lore...it isn't some half assed attempt to flesh out a lineup it is refreshingly appropriate.

Does the lack of Angel Cartel ship skins for Minmatar ships have anything to do with the persistent issue of Gistatis NPC (Battlecruiser) being Cyclone hulls?

Since you managed to apply the fancy faction camo to all sorts of ships now (though to be fair we've been shooting a lot of these ships in missions for a while now haven't we?) - when are we finally gonna see pirate caps to blow up? How else have the pirate factions managed to not get roflstomped by the players and/or empires by now if they aren't living out of cloaky moms etc... on another note, while I recon that Gurista Chimera would probably look nifty, an Angel Hel doesn't quite go along with the style of the Machariel or Dramiel so unique pirate factions at least would need unique cap designes too (a spiky ball of death not unlike the frigate is infront of my inner eye when I try to envision a Sansha Dread for example).
You could solve several problems like that actually - more content to draw upon for missions/incursions/sites and so on and so forth.
Also can't wait for a Blood Oracle - honestly the only skin I could care for (to bad I couldn't put on Blood Pulses with scorch because Meta6+ is worse then Meta5 with Turrets and Missiles ONLY but that's a different't topic *cough*). |

DAT Guristas skin
I would definitely like to see the pirate factions actually HAVE Destroyers and battlecruisers, but in the mean time the skins are shiney.
One question I have is how all these skins are going to interact with the customizable skinning stuff you are working on. They seem to make each other a bit redundant, but a skin slot or something is preferable to a separate ship since the latter clutters the market a bit for something that isn't functionally different.
Will the skins go away entirely, be transformed into a new form (such as being an option to pick in the customizer) and when that happens, what happens to the old skin BPCs and skinned ships? |

Rogue Drone Dominix skin.
Please? Pretty please? =3 Bonus points if it could be got ingame as the other Pirate skins.
A bit out of topic, but will the Rogue Drone Dominixes get the new Dominix model too? |

CCP Fozzie wrote:Hello everyone! They will not necessarily all be released in the New Eden Store right away, but they will all be on the market and ready to go as of the Kronos release. They are: - Punisher Tash-Murkon Edition
- Merlin Wiyrkomi Edition
- Rifter Nefantar Edition
- Incursus Innerzone Shipping Edition
- Omen Tash-Murkon Edition
- Caracal Wiyrkomi Edition
- Stabber Nefantar Edition
- Thorax Innerzone Shipping Edition
- Abaddon Tash-Murkon Edition
- Rokh Wiyrkomi Edition
- Maelstrom Nefantar Edition
- Hyperion Innerzone Shipping Edition
I'm very excited to announce that we will also be adding more skins available through purely ingame achievement in Kronos. These will be 8 skins that can be obtained only through exploration in low security space. More information about the sites that these blueprints will drop in will come in the near future. These skins are (including some links to web renders on a third party site for those of you who cannot wait until the SISI update): These skins should be visible in the next SISI update, and we'll be collecting feedback here.
Question: Do we as players have to pretend we care about these skins in order for CCP to decide to move forward with custom ship paint?
