First of all, if CCP has a reboot every single day.... when does it stop being 'unscheduled'???
Doesn't it worry anyone else that they have to do this constantly to fix this player leak?
I sure hope the next patch focuses on fixing these issues, and not adding new content... |

Yeah, I see no point in adding new content to this game before they make it stable enough to handle what already is. The list of bugs(errors) that affect the players each day is ridicilous high we really dont need more added to that list :(

Edited by: Mr nStuff on 23/09/2003 19:52:47 This problem is a given after the major overhaul they've pulled off.. When is the last time you were pulled back like a rubberband when approaching a stargate or coming out of warp? I don't think I have had this happen once since the patch.
It's pretty obvious they are starting from scratch. I'm sure they will hash out this major problem soon. Because it's major. However, all the little tiny bugs that push my buttons on a daily basis. Thoughs will probably linger on for a long long time.

No, they're actually rebooting to change the hamster's broken running wheel in the cluster power supply unit - Hope they're putting in a good, long-lasting metal one this time.

In my experience bugs are way worse since the patch. Im happy for highways to be shut down if its going to be a fix for these constant reboots. About time they patched the silly bugs too, like not saving some preferences.

Edited by: Shevar on 23/09/2003 19:38:42 Edited by: Shevar on 23/09/2003 19:34:19 nStuff, the reason they have to reboot is basicly because the highway systems start failing due to the ammount of people jumping through the ighway gates. Fills up their mem, and the rest of eve starts to slow down basicly said. After that they need to reboot since there are to many people stuck to unstuck them by hand (and they keep coming in since the system will still be blackholing). So the most likely thing is that there is a memory leak in the code that "does" the high way jumps. Basicly meaning they either need to take them down or fix quickly...

My director fixed that for me after itching about this for days.
After you've picked an item there's no repair button anymore. But there's a right-mouse-pop-menu on the item with repair... I was SO relieved

Shevar, you have proof of this? That's bull. Your confusing one thing with something totally unrelated. Show me the proof. Get a DEV on here to confirm that.. Not a GM, not a Polaris.. If you want me to believe the assumption. Get a DEV on here to confirm that it's all because of the super highways.
People have been getting stuck since beta.. Guess what? No super highways back then. Yup that's right..
The load on the super highways surely doesn't help. But CCP needs to focus on the problem. And I hate to say it, keeping the super highways up will only help them get to the bottom of it. Removing the super highways is a half fast make shift solution. Keeping them up makes the problem show it's ugly face more often. Thus giving the DEVs more to work with. |

Almost right.
The memory leak is in the code that handles exiting a system. It shows up in the highway systems first because they see the most traffic, but it can happen in ANY system (if the server stays up long enough).
That's also why the highway can be blocked up but a_dude in random_0.0_system sees no problem. The resources on the node that handles the highway and nearby systems are all tied up by the memory leak, but the rest of the cluster is running relatively smoothly.
To recap:
The problem is not with the highway system, it is only a symptom of a global sector.onExit() memory leak.

It is probably preferrable for them to do preventive rebooting every 8 hours (downtime + 2 reboots) before people get stuck, until they fix the server memory leak or whatever.
