I installed Eve on a Lenovo T60 notebook that was running 32 bit vista business edition and had no problems. Framerates were great, audio worked, no crashes that I encountered.

Edited by: Roslyn DaPrez on 09/02/2007 14:23:03 I've recently installed Vista Ultimate 64bit edition on my new computer, and noticed EVE initiating the cmd.exe in order to install some DirectX files into my root C:/

Can anyone from CCP tell me what exactly did EVE client do to my system? It seems like that removing those files caused several graphical errors in game, such as no more real time updates of selected item in the overview window.
A clear explanation would be nice, so I know which files to remove if I have to uninstall EVE in the future for any reason.

I have the same problem.
EVE tries to install DX9 on my Vista machine. Since I cancel this installation EVE can not run since it needs a DX9 dll file (d3dx9_30.dll) that is not present on a Vista machine.
Any suggestions? Do I allow EVE to install DX9 and screw every other game up or is there a magic setting to fool EVE into compatibility mode?

I seem to recall DX9 going through and picking up on the newer version and just "bypassing" itself. If you're still hesitant, make sure system restore is running :)

I have vista ultimate x64 and it works perfectly find on mine.
I have even had 4 clients running all with sound, something that would cause XP to crash.

Yes you need to install DX9 (I would very much recomend downloading the most recent websetup version from MS)
DX10 is an integrated part of the Vista OS, whereas DX9 was never OS integratred and will just install to a folder where programs that require it will find it so they can use it.
Not installing DX9 will also prevent you from playing any other games, past, present or future (until there is a DX10 game released).

AFAIK the dx9 component install fails after extracting these files to here but before it installs, I had same problem and needed to get the most recent DX9 websetup redist to install correctly.

I have been running 2 accounts on Vista Home Premium 32bit now for a fair while and have had no problems, or any real performance issues.
Looking forward to a Vista client though in the future

Just go into Control Panel -> User Accounts, then switch off "use User Account Control settings". Then everything works. But it is slower than in XP.

I using vista 64-bit and this in dual monitor with 2 accounts windowed, and this going much better then under XP, under XP 1 client was running smooth and the other was a slide show, now the both accounts are running fine on both screens.
So there is a better dual screen support for windows Vista than XP

I am running windows Xp Pro, and I can get eve to go to the client screen but for some reason it wont connect. I am running off of a school based server which runs fine and its not pw protected, I have disabled firewalls and tried that, allowed exceptions but with no luck. The only thing that happens is when I start my client it says... Server Status: Unknown. thats all, does eve not run on Xp or Xp Pro, or is there no way around the server I am using. |

Cybal, sounds like your school has a firewall. Check out some of the other threads in this section for how to fix that.

Gaming on Vista Ultimate is great, with 'QuickInstall" I can start playing a game as soon as i pop it the drive and it installs in the background WHILE I PLAY.
