For the longest time, our 3rd party partners have sold EVE Time Codes to allow you to subscribe to EVE. Over time, however, they have become increasingly supplanted by PLEX. In order to adapt to this change, we are moving away from ETC to new PLEX Activation Codes. CCP Spitfire describes what this change means in his new dev blog. Robyn Aurilen wrote:The T&C for the buddy program say that PLEX wont be awarded for buddy accounts that're upgraded using PLEX, but can be for accounts upgraded with ETC. Is this going to be changed to allow PLEX as a reward for accounts upgraded with PLEX redeemed using the activation code?
There are no plans at this time to change the current Terms and Conditions of the Buddy Program. PLEX Activation Codes will be considered PLEX and treated as such with regards to the Buddy Program. |

The price for the new PLEX Activation Codes is the same as the ETC. For example the 30 day ETC is the same price as the 1 x 30 day PLEX Activation code and the 60 day ETC is the same price as the 2 x 30 day PLEX Activation code. These scale accordingly depending on the number of PLEX contained within the PLEX Activation Code.
As for the price of PLEX it has remained the same outside of a promotional offer where the price would be lower. There has been no increase to PLEX prices purchased from us or our partners. |

You will still be able to purchase subscription game time from Amazon from a full account of any activity status. This new PLEX Activation Code will have no impact on this. |

TigerXtrm wrote: Not sure what you're on about but any official GTC/PLEX reseller has 2 PLEX on sale for 34 dollars or so. That's 20 or so pounds for you. Prices were the same for GTC. If your retailer is making you pay 30 pounds for 2 PLEX, go find a new retailer because the current one is overcharging by a LOT.
This is correct. 1- and 2-PLEX packages cost exactly the same as 30-day and 60-day ETCs ($19.99 and $34.99), so retailers who sell in USD maintain the same prices as before.
Obunagawe wrote:"The Suggested Retail Price (SRP) on PLEX Activation Codes is going to be the same as the SRP for PLEX offered directly by CCP GÇö so a 2-PLEX Code will cost you the same as a an old 60-day ETC would have. "
This statement contradicts itself.
Right, I see where the confusion comes from. To be entirely correct, it should have said "... the same as the US dollar SRP for PLEX offered by CCP"
Retar Aveymone wrote:TigerXtrm wrote: The price for a single PLEX is even higher on eveonline.com itself at 19,99 euro while all third party retailers have them at 14,60 euro. While I never really understood the difference in prices, nothing is prohibiting CCP from charging different rates on different platforms. Just as there is nothing stopping you from just buying your codes or PLEX or gametime from the cheapest legal source.
ccp is paying the VAT, your plex reseller is not european VAT is why dollar prices generally equal euro prices despite the difference in buying power of the respective currencies - it's about equal to the difference so companies just call it a day ccp has to collect the VAT for its european customers
Without going into too much (boring) detail, this is essentially an entirely correct summary.

This is not entirely correct. GTCs used to cost the same as PLEX in US dollars, and nothing changes in this regard for the new PLEX Activation Codes. So if you used to buy 10 60-day GTCs every month from Reseller X and pay $350, you will still be able to buy 10 2-PLEX codes from the same Reseller X and pay exactly the same amount.

Spitfire, when people are enjoying themselves having a good rant and moan and complain about CCP, it's really rather rude of you to just barge in with your "facts" and your "information" and just spoil everyone's fun.
I don't want to tell you how to post, but maybe you could think about being a bit more considerate in future?
I am ever so sorry. It's been a while since I posted, so I'm a little rusty on the etiquette.
But in all seriousness, I can see where it gets confusing, and want to stress that we are not changing the prices. On the contrary, we are working on some interesting ways to make buying the more expensive PLEX packages more worth it.

Shadow Preldent wrote:One of the unique features of ETC is that you could use ISK to activate an account that has hours for PLEX disable.
Lets say for example that I have an account that has hours for plex disabled, (because I use hours for plex/buddy incorrectly) CCP removed hours for plex from that account and will never give it back . . . ok that's fine.
If I forget to reverse redeem PLEX on that account I can always transfer ISK to that account, post a WTB GTC at something well above market and get my account reactivated very quickly.
This might not be a problem for the average user but when you have 30+ accounts that you may or may not keep active at a point in time this can happen rather often (I buy 5-6 GTC every year for just this reason).
After you remove GTCs will there be any way to activate an account that has hours for plex disabled using ISK?
I suppose I could wait 6 months and use the "7 free days to return" thing, but that's not exactly expedient.

You can always contact Customer Support at [email protected] to have your Hours for PLEX reset. You are then able to purchase PLEX with ISK in game. As long as this service is not abused we will reset it.
If for any reason you do not wish to use the Hours for PLEX service you can also use the PLEX Activation Codes (PAC) and apply a PLEX directly as game time from Account Management. You will simply need to add the PAC to your account and then use the PLEX in your redeeming system as payment. This process is detailed here:
1) Log into Account Management. 2) Hover over the GÇ£Game TimeGÇ¥ drop down tab. 3) Select GÇ£Add Game TimeGÇ¥ 4) Select the 1 month (30 days) subscription option. 5) Select PLEX as a payment method and verify that you indeed wish to use the PLEX as a payment method and continue with the confirmation. 6) A receipt will be shown when the PLEX injection is successful.
This will activate your account for 30 days (if using only one PLEX).
