Edited by: Interscene on 01/06/2006 19:07:29 Some strange error, somthing keeps making my entire computer restart after I go into space, it happens within a few minutes of being in space, somtimes if I don't do anything, or when I do, I've gone into combat (not risky in a raven) and it crashes after a minute or so, or it goes instantly if I look into my cargo hold or rearange my modules. My PC just restarts instantly without giving an error message. It doesn't happen while I'm in a station thou, nothing causes me to crash then. It's just so odd, it was fine until yesterday when it started doing it. I've tried first deleting my cache, then reinstalling EVE, I've tried installing it on another harddrive. Both have more than 10 GB of free space. Some people have said they have this problem on AMD, I'm running a pentium, others have mentioned graphics cards and I'm fine on other games like Doom3 and Quake4 (laggy as hell mind) and lowering my graphics didn't help at all, not to mention - I hav't changed anything and EVE was fine for the last three months until yesterday.
My PC is Windows XP home SP2. Pentium 4 3.2 1gb RAM 256MB Abit-Siluro GEForce - with the Drivers I've been using for the last few months.
It's odd - I havn't changed anything and it was running fine before, now I can't play for more than a few minutes :(

I have this exact same problem. All of my experience with this happen when I am entering combat (within the first minute). This doesnt happen every time but often enough 2-3 times per day. As was mentioned there was no error message and the computer starts up lke nothing was wrong. Usually when I return to the game I log back in the same area, although twice I came back just to find a pod floating in space, and once today I came back and my ship was floating about 10km away from the deadspace acceleration gate.
I am running:
Windows xp SP1 Pentium 3 2.2 1 gb ram GEForce 6600 GT drivers were updated as of the release of the new patch.
Unlike Interscene this only happens a couple times a day. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen this twice while mining now (post last patch). OTOH it's pretty rare as I haven't seen it in the last week. I have an AMD64 and NVidia 6800 card. I did upgrade the drivers for the video card last week so that *might* have resolved the problem.
As regards not getting a message you might have Windows set to reboot on a system stop. You can change the setting in the properties for My Computer under Advanced/Startup and Recovery. Then again my machine is configured that way and nothing was written to any of the event logs. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Edited by: F4ze on 02/06/2006 10:14:58 If you want to try to locate what's causing your pc to reboot you can do the following steps:
In Windows XP go to "system properties" (by right clicking "my computer" and selecting properties) Go to the "Advanced" tab Click "Settings" for Startup and Recovery Disable the "Automatically Restart" option
Next time your computer crashes it will display a blue screen of death and you can identify what device or driver causes the reboots.
Edit: It's not a solution, but knowing what causes it is the first step to solving it.

yeah, did that I've identified the crash as a BAD_POOL_HEADER BSOD type crash that happens randomly. I'm fairly certain its to do with my sound, I mean, EVE was working perfectly day before yesterday. - Since then I've reinstalled the drivers and that has changed nothing. I'm using the old favourite - the audgy soundcard. Is this some kind of spate/pattern since the last patch, there seems loads of reset bugreports being filled here, most to do with soundcards? I'm not running multiple accounts thou.
UPDATE: Game seems stablish if I turn all sound off - but thats really annoying - I've been playing with 5.1 sound for more than 8months, why I should have trouble now is beyond me.
similar bugs as mentioned here http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=344885 hereish http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=342104
and less likely, but in the recent time frame... here http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=345656

Same problem for me - had to turn sound off and it doesn't crash. This is the best quick-fix so you can at least play.
I upgraded my sound card to Creative FX and now it plays fine with sound. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
