I am currently fairly new to the game but I have a long term vision. I want to be a fairly decent straight up fighter. I have done extensive research but no amount of research actually makes up for hardcore raw experience.
The question I have is thus.
From all your experiences in the game and preferably from frontline battle experience what is the most powerful ship and weapon combo?
I want the most devestating weapon ship combo I can find but I simply can't tell from doing all my reading which ship-weapon combo actually plays out in the field.
Which races's ships are the strongest for PVP? Which weapons should I be aiming for? Railguns? Autocannons? Missles? Energy weapons? Drones?

There isnt such thing. EVE is closer to rock-paper-scissors --> there is always some setup that can beat your "ultimate" one. But if you are searching for easy to use/hard hitting setups nos-domi is way to go IMO.

Or ECMing armor tanked Raven.......
But yeah, there is no "best" ship in this game, anything can kill anything.

Technically there is no "best", however in most situations i would go with a tempest fitted with 1400mm t2 arties. Missiles are also quite good, but minmatar are pure dmg imho. Hope this helps ---------------------------------------- CEO, High Council

As stated above, there is no "Best Combo." Different ships are good at different things, and can change in usefulness depending on the setup. Basically I think its best to go with what sounds cool and fun, as you will be flying those ships for a long time.
As EVE is constantly being evaluated and re-balanced by the devs, there are usually a few popular ships at a time, but an "I win" ship is not what the devs want and so any ship that may fit into this catagory hopefully won't for very long.
It sounds like you have already done this, but I really recommend reading the Ship setup threads to find a ship/setup that feels like it would be fun to fly, and train from there.

blasterthron/nosdom since most pvp takes place within scrambling range anyway

Well, i wouldn't agree with that ....but ofc i do agree that there is no "best" ship in Eve, although there are some favourites like Raven, Nos Domi etc.

Fly all the frigates, learn what you like. Fly that.
Right now, ECMing nosferdom or ECMing raven is probably the evil king of eve, but by the time you have the skills to fly them well, the nerfbat will have fallen, and other ships will be mighty.
Just learn to fly what you like flying, and learn to use it well and love it. Never train for something because its FOTM, the wheel WILL turn

Vegabond and WCS's
Well someone had to say it!
The person who said rock/paper/scissors is right though but its more like the whole draw of utensils with the garden shed contents thrown in.

I was probably going a bit overboard when I said what is the MOST POWERFUL ship-weapon combo. I am just trying to find something to aim for. I realize I won't easily be able to train every single skill to try them all out so I am trying to work out something to aim for.
Because of the investment of time I want to make sure I train into a race's ships that has a future in PVP.
And it's the same with weapons. I want to know whether I should invest all my energy in missles, or energy turrets, or blasters, or railguns, you get the idea. I want to know from hardcore experience where I should invest my energy.
Railguns, verse blasters, verse energy turrets, verse missles, verse auto cannons, verse artillery, verse drones.
It's very difficult to tell what works best from just reading up on things. Out in the field of battle things tend to change from EVE theorycraft into hardcore reality. And I don't want to invest monthes of energy into missles when all of a sudden I find that Railguns or blasters are infinitely superior for my needs.

There is no "best" in EVE. You have certain flavours of the month which get nerfed, but 99% of ships and weapons are balanced with each other. If one type of ship was so unbelievably good, there wouldn't be any point having the rest of the ships.
If you want a "best" race/class, go play as an Orc Shaman on WOW.

that's because what works best for one person doesn't work best for another. it's all about deciding how you like to fight and then choosing a race's ships and weapons that match that style.

Edited by: Wheya on 04/06/2006 23:21:26 With each new patch there comes a new FOTM. Balance is a difficult challenge in such a complex game. Over time each race has had and will continue to get its FOTM. I don't expect this circle will ever come to an end but I hope the differences will continue to get smaller and smaller.
Which way to choose? Choose the race or the ships or weapon classes according to your roleplay or prefered fighting style or which kind of ships you find most beautiful or whatever. When you've trained your skills a lot of things will be different than today.

Edited by: Woopie on 05/06/2006 00:10:29 The popular "I win setups" or rather "I dont lose setups" are as stated above..
BS: EW/Stabbed Raven NOSing/EW/Stabbed or Tanked Domi
HAC: Stabbed Vaga NOSing/EW Ishtar
Recon: NOSing/EW or Shield tanked/Stabbed Curse Ever-jamming get out of jail card Rook
etc.. etc.. but thanks to Heavy NOS there aren't really many good setups below BS class since they need close to zero cap dependency or/and really good EW so they dont die to single BS with Heavy NOS.
edit: Either ways 1 or more of above ships is probably what you should be training for. If you consider more setups it's definitely either Caldari or Gallente, Amarr/Minmatar are really lacking ships with uber setups (for now.. at least)

yes if you lock him and he has his wpns hot and hes in low sec AFK at a gate. He shoots at you gate guns aggro him and since hes AFK he'll get eventually popped.... Not likely but possible.

Sure, fight the Titan in highsec, without flags, and get shot by the titan.
End result is your shuttle costing someone a titan.

PvP takes many forms and has many roles. Balance is generally pretty good, too, so you should pick a race based on looks and fighting style more than anything. My advice is to join a PvP-heavy corp and watch your friends and enemies both to see what looks good. Not only will it be a lot of fun, you'll get firsthand experience for making your choice. For now, just fly what you can fly and train learning and general combat and fitting related skills.
