1)I have played for a month. I have mined 1 area for Omber a lot. When I first started, Omber was selling at about 50ISK. Now, it's down to about 24. If I place an order for any higher, it never sells. To help me better understand how things work in Eve: a) Has Omber pricing dropped this low across the entire game? Or, is it just low in this particular region. b)If I go explore, will I find regions that are buing Omber at 50ISK and maybe higher? c)What drives the price of Ore? d)If people don't quick sell at the low price but place orders for higher prices, will the market price go up?
2) Second subject. Market prices, trade goods. a) Why is it that almost everything in the market has a lower buying price than a selling price? This makes no sense to me. I think people should be able to log in at any time of day and be able to find SOMETHING to trade for a profit.
If anyone can offer some answers, I would appreciate it. I am at the point where I am going to decide wether or not to start paying for the game and these are things that have been bothering me. Especially the trading. I live in the US and don't log on until around 9:00PM PST. If this means that anything worth selling is already snatched up and sold by this time, my interest in the game is going to wane considerably. This, compounded with the lowered Ore pricing is about ready to push me away from the game.
Thanks in advance...

Just one bit of advice. It's usually a good idea to refine your ores for minerals. Invest in Refining and Refinery Efficiency. Ready-made minerals usually sell better.
Usually.

From a recent DEV BLOG:
Quote: Continuous commodity market
I've been making design changes to the NPC commodity market such that supply and demand is continuous, instead of being reseeded during downtime. This should level the field for all players (especially Australians), as well as making price dynamic more rich. At the same time it will probably be a good idea to revisit some of the parameters there, such as distribution, price margins and volumes. To summarize the change, you can basically think that the same amount of supply (and demand) as before will now be trickled in continuously instead of once a day. This means that no player can get a chance to buy up the whole supply of some commodity. Furthermore, prices will be dependent on over- and undersupply at the given station. The impact of these changes should not be so great on existing code, but some internal changes to the market logic needs to be done, along with some minor DB changes. No client patch should be necessary. If you have some brilliant (simple) ideas about this subject, now is the time to let them resound, in case some of them would fit nicely with the planned changes.
This should make the market better in the future. I agree that you should refine your ore to get minerals, and sell that instead of ore.

At the present time with no refining skills and given you can sell the minerals produced from the ore at NPC prices, you should get about 30-31 Isk/Unit for Omber Ore.

Mine refines and when the hull is full go find a good price
that means looking out side you area od space.
I mine in suner and sell 7 jumps away
so far the price is ok, as for trade look and learn you will find some good deals in the system.

i agree with everything you say - how frustrating is it that you cant buy cheap and sell for a profit a few systems down the line - that was one thing that made elite so good - mining all day long for cash soon gets boring - you should actually be able to make more money by trading than mining not the other way round. trading takes more effort

Thanks for the answers to some of the questions. Particularly the bit from the dev blog. The market MUST be dynamic intra day or the appeal of trading is lost proportional to ones distance from GMT.
I took a look last night and it looks like I can haul my ore a few hops and make more cash most of the time. So, I guess some harder work is in order.
Thanks again!

Any idea when this is gonna change? I myself have had my fill of mining. I would love to run some trade routes and get some good use out of me I3. =) When I use to play EnB that's all I did was trading. But can't really make a living off it right now.

Mate, I remember feeling exactly the same way when I started. But actually trading is nearly always possible. A couple of tips for newbies :
- The advanced trade display is frequently, if not always, wrong. Don't just click on a trade good and then accept what it tells you about best price or largest volume at face value. use your mouse to hover over the star systems on the map. You'll nearly always find that there are systems with more on sale or in demand, at beter prices, than the summary would suggest. The issue about timing is a bit of a red herring. There are some goods in some regions which very rich players monopolise. But there are profits to be made at any time of day.
Trade routes move around. It's not a case of finding one route which will always exist. Sometimes, the best price is in one system and sometimes it's in another. For example, only this week, my corp mates and I found two systems in the same region, both demanding huge quantities of electronic parts. Other systems in the same region weer selling electronic parts in fairly large quantities at lower prices. We're only talking 6 or 7 jumps between buying and selling. That night, between us, we probably made 7 or 8 milion profit. So it is possible. The same deal didn't exist the next day. So basically, you always have to check.
Profits are often bigger when moving from region to region rather than within regions. This doesn't necessarily mean more jumps between markets. It's worth keeping your trade ship and a shuttle at a superhighway system. That way, you can jump in the shuttle to check out the prices in neighbouring regions quickly, and go back to get your hauler when you find something decent.
In terms of selling ore, it can sometimes be more profitable to sell raw ore (I earned my early money in a system which paid 75isk for raw kernite. I mined a LOT of kernite ). But mostly it's better to refine and sell. I would never mine in one system and sell in another, though. It's a waste of time. If you're going to mine non-rare ores, find the system with the best prices for you and mine there.
I hope this helps some. Good luck out there.
