Now I realize by saying this, I am prolly opening up the flame gate.. but it's a chance i'm willing to take. I have been talking with alot of people, who use many different ships for level 4 missions and i'm always getting mixed opinions on the matter.

My question is simple : If you could use any ship (non-capital ships, no dreads/carriers/titans!) for level 4's and have the full sp to use it to the best of it's ability, what would you use and how would you set it up?

I hear raven is the easiest to train for to be able to quickly do L4's, I also hear that domi's/apoc's are really nice to do them in as well. I don't care too much about training time involved, I just want to hear people's opinions on the matter.

Oh and please take this seriously, I don't want to see people saying they'd do this in a wolf, or a cruiser. Hac's/BS' I'd say would be realistic.

Raven is nice, because you "anchor" your ship and start pounding the NPC
Dominix the same, Drone do lots of work you have to switch from sentry to other drone or small heavy but not really have to move your ship

I don't know about other ship. I don't have the skill to test with another BS :)

(P.S. If for factionnal ship, CNR and Rattlesnake are the same thing, a big raven)

i just trained to use a raven and I am not impressed really. I have all shield skills trained to level 4. I am not able to keep my shield running as long as I need to without having to warp out on missions. Sometimes several times. I am using named hardeners not tech two, but it is just 5% that I am loosing. I am cheap I know... I have Energy Systems Operation trained to level 5 and I am using 3 tech II PDU's as well. I was armor tanking a Tempest prior to the Raven and I dont see much if any improvment.

I prefer a Raven myself to help get past the drone agro issues on some missions (like Worlds Collide). I can't tank as well as I like, either - however, with T2 hardeners (using 3 of them), I take about 15% less damage, so tanking is more doable.

I'm seriously considering getting one of those snazzy Gistii XL Shield boosters that boost for lots of shield but little cap.

That's because your setup needs some work, apparently. For starters, the T2 hardeners make a boatload of difference...

If I am up against a npc that does two damage types, am I better off to use two of each hardeners? or should I add in a Invulnerability?

If it's only 2 damage types, then specific hardners are much better. And T2 ones, at that.

Well as I am Minmatar I have only used minmatar Ships. I have not tried the Sleipnier yet but I currnelty have the skills and ship so I'll probably give that a try this week or weekend. However before this lovly ship came along I never though of one ship being the best for lvl 4's, particuarlly for minmatar
. Since I have the ships avaiable to me I use what is best in which situation. I have Fleet Tempest for Close range shield tanking in dead space missions. Angel BS for Long range sniping (finish the mission in 2 minutes) and close range Armor tank if I get better resistance for the NPC's I am up agaist than the shield tempest.
Also havn't flown the vaga in mission have flown the Muninn its fun but the BS's do better in my oppinon.

Such the difference in opinions lie not in efficency (you can turn any ship into mission running monster with time and money investment), but the simple need of different kinds of excitement and "sideways" use (namely PvP).

Either fly what you like looking at and love it (any ship will do, I'm serious), or fly what bring you most ISK for little to none trouble - Raven (Navy Issue full of Gist).

well raven is a good damage dealer so you can run lvl4s very fast.

dominix is more for the carebears among us.

with the right skills trained you can get full aggro, tank most of the damage easily and let your drones do the trick. DOT - Damage over time to be exactly.

if you want to be sure that you can run lvl4s without/less losses ...
look at your ship highest resists Shield/armor.

If you think about that... running a lvl4 to your best is running an "enemy state agent".

so minmatar ships got high EM resist on shields, gallente got high EM resist on armor... so what would be best just to get an amarr lvl4 agent? you just need some thermal hardeners and let the fun begin. fighting all those amarr ships which can only deal EM/THERM is pretty easy...

Any ship which can get high resists in Kin/therm are ideal to deal with guristas which can be found often in caldari missions.

but allover... raven is the best to run mission fast, got cap issues compared to the dominix but you are pretty fast through the mission compared to other BS cause you are a great damage dealer.

if training time is not an issue you should think about the minmatar typhoone.

with a missile rof bonus it does 2/3 of a raven's damage with missiles (4 launchers vs6) and has enough dronebay to carry 5 heavy and 5 med drones so if you care for your drones you can easily do 2/3 of the domis drone-damage (due to no bonus on typhoon and +50% bonus on domi).

to me thats a 4/3 damage + you get 4 bonused turret slots where domi has 6 and raven 2. well as said its VERY skill intensive since you need 2-3 weapon types (missiles, drones, turrets) and good secondary skills for tanking since you'll prolly get fitting issues with 4 guns 4 launchers and a reliable tank.

A gisti raven pwns everything very quickly easpecialy with gd skills in torps bs's seem to melt like ice to a hair drier and cruiser and bc die very fast 2 and t2 medium drones eat the frigs up fast enough.

i run a gist b type tank on my raven with xl boost, amp, 2 specfic hards, and a dread invun field. so far it has run into no probelms and the tank runs for sum crazy lenght of time i think mine atm is 3times more efficent than armor tanking.

a corp mate uses just t2 hardners with a gisti b xl boost and amp but he does have a low grade cystal set which brings his boost to 1008 for 170ish cap which is just abit mental in my book he also runs t2 torps. He has tanked every 'hard' lv4 mission.

I prefer to use a Cerb with dual-gistii shield boosters.

HI: 5 t2 heavy launcher, tractor beam
MD: t2 Ballistic Deflection, 2 Gistii A-Type small boosters, shiedl boost amp, t2 cap recharger
LO: 3 BCU of your choice and a pdu 2.

Everything runs indefinitely and shields stay around 90%.

Tougher missions like Vengeance can bring the shields down to 50%.

personally I also like the vagabond for lvl 4 missions.
 With a t2 10mN ab it gets upto 1 k/s easy
the 25m3 drone bay takes care of any webbers quickly and well the bses dun hit for **** and melt away under 5*dual tl 180 at 1.30 rof :p

recently i also started using a typhoon. Quite good also
the mixed weapons are kind of a waste but 4 torps/cruise +4 ac or nos does work quite good
and fcourse the 175m3 drone bay does most of the work

Given that the Dominix is one of the strongest small-scale PvP ships in the game, that statement is just pure nonsense.

What about HACs? Can you burn through missions faster in a HAC than with a battleship? Presuming training time isn't an issue.

I find a HAC superior to battleships on the frig, cruiser and drone heavy missions, such as Pirate Slaughter or Drone Infestation.

It really depends - if you want to do the new though missions, i dont really know - noone i know was willing to tank his standing with other empires.

The deadspace missions like GE, AE and Worlds Collide are made for gist ravens. Lots of BS and cruisers, low amount of frigates. Huge DPS, difficult to get in range or do maneuvering without aggroing the entire stage. So its either CNR or Rattlesnake, depending on your tanking needs (either you want a permatank that can hold full stage aggro forever after you crash, or you have a tank that has some risk of breaking if you go afk for more then 15 minutes, but 7 launchers and much better visuals...). Either t2 Hammerheads or vespas, depending on NPCs.

Most of the "old" non deadspace "spawn/wave" missions are best done in a cerb. Lots of frigates and cruisers, one or 2 BS. Just kill the frigs with prec heavies, destroy the cruisers with t1 ammo, then switch to furies to finish the remaining BS. Generally if the mission is not a deathtrap and has many frigs / cruisers, a HAC is the better choice, and the cerb the best. Dual gistii tank needs to be switched on after you undock, thats it. If you load FoFs, you can do some of the missions afk.

Sleipnir, zealot, vagabond, dominix, the new typhoon, astarte / eos all have some interesting percs. But if money and time are not an issue, get both a raven and a cerb.

My dream ship for level 4 would be a nyx by the way ;)

Raven is really the only choice if you want maximum efficiency. I have done lvl4s in all the races' ships in denial of the Raven's l33tness for a long time, not believeing it could be SO much better. Then a corpmate came along and showed off his Raven, and I had to see that it really is. I hate the ship for all it stands for, but it is so much better than the others that I simply have to use it for missions.

55% or better hardners and a Gist large booster (or xlarge of you are rich) are mandatory for a sustainable tank, and Javelin torps make you shine in the damage department even against smaller ships (One-volley cruisers with Javelin torps and a painter or three). All the while no worries about range or transversal.

I can sleepwalk almost every mission in a gist raven, the only ones I do in a different ship are the rogue drone ones, as all of them (xcept he inties which are so weak I can pop them all on approach) are slower than an Apoc on AB, so I can snipe them with no danger.

Dominix would probably be similar to the Raven, if not for the drone aggro issues which make some missions nigh impossible to do in one. So Raven or its big brethern are the by far best mission ships.
