Rather than have the usual mutiple threads on the same subject could the mods please sticky this thread for the duration of the tournament and lets get a discussion of the games going throughout the tournament.

As we still have a few days left before the tournament I think a good place to start would be to answer two questions.
1. Who do you think will win the world cup?
2. Who do you want to win the world cup?

And so does your quietly understated sig.
Once every four years I get out the flags for a sporting event and announce that I'm English and proud of it. There are far worse ways to show patriotism. But anyways back to the football....

Well, so far I have been very happy with the quality of the games. A lot of open attacking football has been in evidence and judging on what I have seen so far its still a wide open tournament that any number of team could win. Even Brazil were far from overwhelming in their opening game against Croatia although they did still show flashes of brilliance at times.
This is turning out to be one of the best world cups for a long time
Oh and rankings dont mean a damn in football

Well I am the eternal optimist when it comes to England and I truly beleive that playing Sweden this coming Tuesday will do wonders for our game.
Without the pressure being there of having to qualify for the next round we should be able to relax and play good flowing football, we will be able to give rooney (and walcott?) a good run out. I would also like to see lennon on the pitch from the start with owen and rooney up front.

Very nice, if Holland win you can almost certanly say bye
There is no such thing as certainty in football!
and me being the fervently patriotic englishman that I am beleive no matter who we face the best is yet to come from England and we can go all the way

Edited by: Yolan on 02/07/2006 10:41:14 I am hoping for a Germany V France final, with France (who play with style) winning now that England are out.
My main reasoning is Germany or France are the only two teams left that play a mostly honest game.
Italy and Portugal could learn a lot from these two teams and cut out the diving.
