Has this ever happened to you You are sitting in a nice spot spying on the enemy in your covert ops, cloaked and able to move or warp at will while still cloaked thanks to that handy (yet expensive now) covert ops cloaking device. When bad luck strikes, as it does to us all now and then when suddenly the Eve client crashes. What then happens to that poor cover ops ship? it uncloaks! Say you were just spying on an enemy POS and this happens. Your ship uncloaks and prepares for the usual emergency warp off but the POS instantly locks and scrambles you, then shoots you down. Ship lost. Would you the general community petition this loss? or just chalk it up to some bad game mechanics?

hmmm I kinda agree on this one, those covert op cloaks are expensive and since its not a ship made to make isk with, but more of a reconaissance ship, I believe we should be reimbursed if the game crashes.

This is so obviously a bug, I would hope that your ship would be replaced. Then again, the real problem is getting your cloak back. Covops frigate - 6 mil, your cloak - 45mil. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Not a bug, but a poor game mechanic.
When you disconnect, all mods are turned off automaticly..
It should leave them on untill the warp finishes, atleast covertops cloaks and armor reps/hardeners...
so-called life-support class mods.

Of course I'd petition it. A client crash is pretty much the definition of a bug. The specific details of how the ship was lost post-crash are pretty much irrelevant. If you lose something as a direct result of a crash, you should get it back, period.

Too bad you can't tell crashes from intentional closures from the server logs =/

Either way, your cloak shouldn't disengage if it was engaged before disconnect. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Why would you intentionally close the game out to get a new copy of the ship you're using while giving away that you're spying on the enemy?
It'd be like shooting your foot just to get a cast.

Even if you petition, they won't give you back the loot that dropped, only what was destroyed, afaik

I think the point was more in general situations, pulling out your network cable when you hit structure and then petitioning the "crash". Which is true... too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to sort out the legitimate lag/crash losses from the exploiters.

That is not true, modules do stay on for some amount of time, I however, can not tell you how long that is. Quite a few times I have gotten disconnected, and I'll return to find any modules that do not need a target, are still running. The hardners and reps included.

I thought that if you were not locked at the time of a CTD, even if anyone or anything is able to lock your ship before it warps off, it cannot be warp scrambled. Freighter pilots have been using this fact to avoid getting ganked in low sec before decloaking from the gate, and I don't think CCP has made any changes to amed this yet.

The ship can be warp scrambled, but will time out after 60 seconds (so the aggro timer won't start, if you get shot after logging/CTDing).
That won't help much in a cov ops though.. And yes, it would be nice, if the cov ops cloak stayed on like repairers/hardeners do.

Edited by: Max Teranous on 06/06/2006 09:20:13 A cov op's won't even have time to align if it uncloaks at a deathstar POS, it'll be dead in seconds. Scrambling isn't required in this case.
It does suck, I was in the gang last time it happened to Namelesz. Especially as the cloak survived and was looted by hostiles.

Max, actually the cloak didnt survive, yay! so if the petition gets answered as the masses seem to want it to then it should get returned. hopeully. still waiting on a non-automated response on my petition.
