Maybe, maybe, 1 out of 10 people reply with the helpful "Ack, sorry to hear it, unfortunately for you it isn't an exploit. Given your report, here's some things you can do differently."
And the problem here is... if most of the "advice" of these posters were followed... no one would pilot industrials. I mean seriously??? What is the effing point of having the "paper thin" ships, these vulnerable targets that practiaclly scream: I AM CARRYING A LOAD OF SOMETHING TOO BIG TO FIT INTO A MORE ARMORED SHIP, PLEASE COME FREAKING KILL ME NOW, I AM A NOOB. This has to be what Pirates thrive off of. This has to be pirate r00l # 1. Find the industrials, for they are the promised land. Gank them wherever you can, they cannot respond!
Ok, now that the carebear in me has left the keyboard, I don't want take piracy out of the game. Faaaahk no! Piracy and player v player action gets the adrenalin going like nothing else!
What I would propose is that when peoplre hop on the Eve forums, indignant about getting shot up in Empire space, replying posters take a more mature route in discussing things with the poster. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems far more constructive to deal with the person's complaint in a rational manner than to whip off some ill-considered, immature, condescending digital spit wad. Or do all the negative posters enjoy acting like 10 year old bullies?
Just curious....
People are tired of folk asking the same questions day after day. It's already been discussed. Many times.
Does this mean that every 2 week old character that loses a ship gets run through the same gauntlet of jaded crumudgeons? Why is this correct behavior, or why is this an excuse? Is there a sticky someplace that warns players what sort of behavior could lead to costly encoutres, like this one? I asked this last question because it seems like it might be a helpful, constructive resource. And, it might prevent people from posting their newbness for mockery.
I know these sorts of things go on all the time, I see the posts too. To be honest... I generally only see one at a time on the main page. I think there is a reason for this. If there was a sticky to help new players be aware of ways they might be attacked in HiSec, I think it would cut down the number of different times this story shows up on the boards... Just my two isk...
The man was flying a Iteron 5, not a 2, not a 3 but a 5, he was also carrying a cargo full of megacyte. This tells me he isn't naive towards the game or its nuances, he isn't a noob by any means and he knew the dangers yet still didn't take proper steps to avoid the gank. Sure, I feel bad for him losing that much, hopefully it doesn't make him want to quit the game or anything like that. When its all flushed out and weighed in the end the mistake was still his and his alone. Sucks having to take responsibility for your actions eh?
