Well folks, as a lot of you know I've been having a full back tattoo designed by the tattoo artist Louis Malloy thats inspired by the race wallpapers from the wallpapers section on EVE-O.
Well I had my second session today, 2 hours. and this time a little colour has been added. You can check out the blog here and for those not willing to read the blog I'll send you here for the image of the status so-far. Be warned theres a little blood on the picture and it's still a little swollen so theres 7 days or so healing time left.
The next session is on the 20th June for 3 hours and the first Char and section should then be complete after 8 hours work. Then work will start on the next char on 14th July.
Enjoy. Look forward to seeing what you all think. ------------------------------------------------- AWMCorp is Recruiting

Couple of questions couple of answers -
Initial woman was stenciled, the rest is all freehand, as was all the shading etc.
The old tattoo is being over written so to speak in the next session I beleive.
Pain, this time there was no pain only the nurofen I took before hand
The hand might look distorted due to the way I'm holding my arms around my side. They are stright and in line as they should be promise ------------------------------------------------- AWMCorp is Recruiting

2400 GBP is a lot of cash...CCP could've rented a billboard for cheaper! Speaking of billboards, they oughtta give him something for his uber-hardcore commitment, like free game time...or a coffee mug signed by the devs or something. Speaking of which, if i were to hypothetically get the eve logo tattooed on my forehead, could i get free gameplay for life? Just kidding....or am i? _______________________

Painkillers Sounds wrong to me, the "pain" is part of the experience imo. It turns the Tattoo into something personal, an acctual expirience, not just a bit of color under your skin. Just my 2 isk though
Also, I dont know if its Diffrent in GB, but 100pounds/Hr sounds WAY too much to me

Your quite right,it is a lot of money. However,Louis Malloy is rated as one of (if not the best) tattoo artists in the UK. I live around 10 mins walk away from his tattoo studio, and i had my tatt done by him maybe 8 years ago.I had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment even back then, before the likes of David Beckham got cut there and really put louie in the spotlight.
Skarsnik,i tip my hat. Having a tattoo is not to be taken lightly, and i believe you sir have done your homework before making your choice.
I hope you are happy with the end result

Edited by: Hakk Allardson on 07/06/2006 06:14:38 Nice work on the Caldari logo. I really don't think the head and face are up to par though. Especially for 100 pounds/hr.
I think a lot of others are thinking the same thing as I am but are just to nice to say it. See if that bugger that overcharged you can fix that face on the chick. It looks very "drawn by a 13 yo" look.
*edit Ack! I just took a closer look at it again and her arms are all out of wack. He needs to lay off the freehand becasue he's messing you up big time man. Seriously, make him do a straight transfer of the whole thing. Maybe something can be salvaged. But like I said for the amount he's charging you the quality needs to be much much higher.

Yea I looked at the original and made a comparison. The tattoo artist has done some different stuff to the right forearm as it appears the forearm is longer that in the original and has a more armored appearance. Also on the left elbow there is not a hard enough right angle like there is in the original making it appear more distorted than the original.
I supposed it could be from distortion of the back but it just dosn't look quite right. I think some continued shading will tighten up the head/face area of the work after all it is a work in progress.
However those arms look like they are pretty much finished and they just arn't quite right.

The gun's not bad, but please get the face done as soon as possible. The current lack of any shading in that area of the tattoo detracts from the rest of the piece. I'd also suggest seeing about getting some shading around the outside of the figure to add another level of depth. For tattoos that aren't very abstract, and aren't something simple like a solid black shape, a rose, a name, etc. an abstract background goes a long way.

I totally agree that the shading needs to be finished. As I stated earlier (Since this thread was brought back from the dead by some devious necromancer of the future), I have a session set for the 14th July, after which this char should be finished and the start of the second char should begin to take shape.
You should also note this is a WIP (Work-in-progress) and is far from finished as the design takes up the whole of my back.
Thankyou everyone for your feedback. But I'd like to thank the alt trolls, makes me happy to give you something to post against to make you feel better about yourselves and your excellent forum posting skills.
Once again thankyou for the responses, the ones that provide valid critisism and pointers as this progress it's very much appreciated.
As for now this thread died a while ago, and if a Mod could lock this for now, I'll be posting a further update in 10days time for you to all see more progress.

Those were all in proportion until the guy put on all that weight... before, even Jabba looked slim
Its not that theyre horribly stretched out, but also the complete idea of getting the tattoos in the first place.
The reason us gamers get as the stereotypical "fat greasy nerd, or pale skeleton greasy nerd" is because of crap like this :X
Also..Painkillers hahahaha. Adding more to the stereotype ____________________________________________________

A little of my tattoo stillnot even close to being done. But was thinking of having my other arm with a space theme, like a Raven shadow in the back ground with a crow in the fore ground. Ideas are endless, its the wallet that has and end.. Nice will be looking for the finished pice. And to the the lame comments, tattoos are what they are to the person getting them. For me i like ink and i like pain, And as soon as I can fill up this arm ill be filling up the other

Good God. Please tell me that lopsided head will be fixed. For 'being the best in the UK' his skills really don't measure up when it comes to anatomy.

you're going to regret this when you're 40 and you consider EVE a wasted few years of your life on an internet addiction

OK well this is a little hard to gauge, but with this char alone taking 8 hours and 4 more to go with all the in-between work and it being ú100gbp per hour.
Rough estimate is ú2400gbp
W . T . F .

Okay, 2400 pounds is about 4,979.50 CDN!!! For this cash I could buy a brand new 350 crate motor for my '69 Firebird!!!

Oh btw, the face looks a little weird, dunno something with the jawline/cheekbone...
Everyone is different though.
Where you would buy an engine (that is an engine, right?) for your vintage car, Skarsnik would rather use the money to buy a tattoo, and I would rather use the money to buy a really nice guitar amplifier or FX rack.
Reminds me of that advert for the bank where they have hundreds of people scuba diving in a small part of the ocean, and then one guy fishing.

Obviously to YOU, as this your opinion, you dont agree with getting tattoos. However there are many of us in the world that do get tattoos, and enjoy both getting them and sharing with other 'Like-Minded' people. Also think about how in many cultures around the globe they are a sign of religions too. Perhaps you should have an open mind rather than the closed one you obviously have.

Now your turning to even more personal bias probably because you think you are 'Gods Gift' unfortunatly the mirror your probably using has a picture of someone else in it. As for me being "fat greasy nerd, or pale skeleton greasy nerd", I run my own company have just got married to a beautiful wife. In what way is that "greasy nerd"??

Hmm Painkillers adding to stereotype. I'd really like to know what stereotype is, as it's one I really haven't seen before. And as you are so against tattoos you dont even know what it's like to get a tattoo so you have no basis for your so-called 'Informed' wisdom and insight.

I'm obviously a lot closer to 40 than you, being well on my way to 33
It amazes me that out of the few flamers, probably not one of you [the flamers] have actually done the thing most people do and 'Read the blog'. You'd actually notice that the EVE artwork is the inspiration of the tattoo, and not the only reason for getting this in the first place. It's there for ME and I thought about it far longer than the flamers in this post thought about what this whole thing entails.
Anyways I'll be posting a further update on the 14th July as more work gets done, for those of you interested in how this proceeds stay tuned. And once again to those of you with Positive and Negative critique that was actually meaningful thankyou.

Wow, I gotta admit that your Tats starting to look Awesome, And thats only 1/4 of it I take it! Wow!
Never thought of getting a tatto, not to say they arn't interesting, I just have enough trouble getting shots, let alone sit under a steady needle for hours on end. Looks great though, Can't wait to see the end product!
Hmmm..... Mabey I could get an Eve Starchart painted on my chest so I wouldn't have to keep looking at the map in game....
P.S.
And to all those who said it looks distorted, He already awnsered that question, Its b/c of his arm placment etc, He's not standing at attention...

I think it's way, way, way too big and looks a bit off somehow, but if Skarsnik is happy he can do whatever he wants to his body. Just as long as I don't have to look at it. _________________________________________________________
