One thing we held onto from the days when we co-founded the Federation was a large chunk of its legal code, especially with regards to property law and criminal prosecution. There was scarcely time to write a new one from whole cloth and in any case, it's a good one. Meritocrats don't throw away good ideas over something as petty as who wrote that idea.
