since its official that it will indeed be a drone ship...
how would you set it up to be a drone ship, but NOT just be something halfway between, but not really different from the Vexor/Domi?
assuming a drone control bonus is out of the question (though, IMO, a requirement reduction for drone control units, similar to covert ops cloaking devices, would be interesting)
I think, I'd go for:
5 high slots 2 turret hardpoints (or missile, whatever, personally I'd prefer missiles, but its not that important to me)
5 mids 7 lows
100m3 drone bay
Role Bonus: Specialized drone bay. 50% volume reduction for medium and light drones.
Batttlecruiser skill bonus: 20% drone Damage, 7.5% armor rep bonus.
now the way I envision it... the fittings and such would have a "natural" fitting of say: 2x 250mm rails(or heavy launchers if it were missiles...) 2x drone link augmentors 1x medium remote armor rep or Nos
1x omnidirectional tracking link 1x drone nav computer 1x AB and the remaining 2 be variable depending on task... booster, recharger, or web/scram... whatever.
lows being something like a dominix's tank type configuration, but with medium reps, and non-active hardeners.
enough cap/recharge that it could sustain 1 rep, and pulse a second, or something like that.
the idea being that it would NOT have the ability to "naturally" fit a whole crapload of NOS, without giving up a tank entirely.
I'd imagine it to be a little faster and more agile than the Brutix, but still clumsier than crusiers.
any thoughts? my idea on this is probably a bit overpowered... or might be able to be used in a different way that would be severely overpowered.

just give it enough room to fit 5 heavy drones, +10% damage & hitpoints per level, 7.5% armor rep.
CCP isn't very imaginative when it comes to drone ships :)

5 Ogre IIs = 475dps. A fully loaded Cyclone (425mms, Heavy Launchers, 3 Gyro, 1 BCU) does 512dps, and will do more when we finally get Assault Missiles.

Edit: with the size reduction thingy, that would be around 500 dps with 4 heavy drones, a bit more with 3 heavy/2 meds.

lol, thats why the (imo...) creative idea of the volume reduction on medium drones, to prevent practical use of heavy drones. and allow for the larger bonus.
maybe a even larger volume reduction, and smaller bay to prevent hevy drones from working with it maybe?

I'm not really expecting something that interesting, but I just REALLY hate the idea of it being more of the same, just happening to be halfway between domi and vexor.

oh I admit with heavys and that bonus, it'd be way too strong.
thats why the funky drone volume thing, to allow a variety of medium and light drones, without being able to effectively use heavies.
maybe only 50m3 with that drone bonus would be enough... and more effectively prevent use of heavies.
edit: also looking for other ideas... or adjustments, not just criticism on my ideas, lol

I edited my post to account for your drone size reduction idea. You'd do ~315 dps for 5 drones without bonus, or ~630 dps with maxed skills. You have 4 heavy drones instead of 5, so that's ~500 dps for 4 heavies.
If you halve the drone bay, you'll have 5 medium drones doing more damage than 5 regular heavy drones.

Battlecruiser Skill Bonus: 10% bonus to Electronic Warfare and Combat Utility drone effectiveness, +5 km bonus to Drone operation range per level.
Of all the 'drone' boats currently, their bonii limit them to using nothing but combat drones pretty much. This would be a nice deviation. |

hmm got a feeling it will be something like
6 highslots (5 turrets and 0 launchers) 5 meds 5 lows
100m3 drone bay
10% bonus to drone dmg and drone hitpoints per level 5% bonus to med hybrid turret dmg per level
not very origional i know but im guessing looking at the other drone ships we have that it will be something like this... as for what id like to see as alternatives - well maybe something for frigate killing :) ie.
5 highs (0 turret/missile hardpoints) 5 meds 7 lows
50m3 drone bay
10% bonus to drone damage and tracking per level 20% bonus to energy vampire and energy neutraliser range and effectiveness per level

What i want from the new gallente BC is 5 med slots at least, and a second bonus that is useful. The vexor has this useless hybrid damage bonus (grid is too low to mount 200mm's or Electron Blasters + MWD, and dual 150mm's are just a joke).
So either +5% medium hybrid damage AND the grid to support medium weapons, or one of these bonuses besides the obligatory +10% drone damage/hitpoints per level:
+20% to nos/neut range  +5% damper effectiveness +5% nos/neut amount +7.5% armor repair amount +10 m3 dronebay (100 m3 standart drone bay size, +10 per level. It would need to lose some high slots though to compensate for being able to use heavies and sentries)
I would much prefer having fewer highslots AND the grid to fill them with decent guns rather than having lots of highs but not enough grid to fill them with guns like on the domi and vexor.

I'm not a drone expert so I don't know how popular this will be. What about a hybrid damage bonus and a (large) bonus to the effectivness of logistics/ewar drones? I heared they aren't as effective as a ship's ewar modules, but with a big enough bonus to them they might be more popular. |

I can fit 4x Electrons + MWD + 800mm plate + Med nos just fine on my Vexor with 1 RCU.
On topic now, I don't think that we will see the tier 2 BC with tank bonuses, but rather with Damage and more damage bonuses.
I think we should be more close to :
Gallente : 5% hybrid damage, 10% drone damage and HP Caldari : 5% kinetic msl damage, 10% msl velocity Amarr : 10% reduction in laser cap, 5% rof bonus to lasers Minmatar : 5% proj damage, 5% rof bonus to proj _____________________________

I would like to see:

10% bonus to drone HP and Damage per level
AND
5000m drone control range bonus per level
OR
+25 m3 bonus to drone bay per level

It would be nice if Gallente got a crap bonus for a change, and Minmatar got a 10% proj damage, 5% rof bonus or something like that. :D
Gallente ships are the best 1v1 ships of their classes because they can tank decently and field massive offence with drones that are difficult to disable.

I like the EW ideas that people put out . . . I also like some comments IÆve read on a ôdedicated drone shipö on another thread. Brutix has a total of 16 slots so . . .

Highs: 3 slots, 2 turret/2 launcher Mids: 7 Lows: 4 Drone Bay: 200
Two slots and a bunch of weapons were dropped to make up for the drone bay and the drone bonuses.
Bonuses: 5% Sensor Damp Bonus Per Level 15% Bonus To Drone Optimal Range & Tracking 30% Bonus To Webber Drone Effectiveness +5000 Scoop Range (its got a tractor lock on all of them)
ItÆs a sniping EW ship that uses Sentry Drones as it main weapon. It has weak defenses and requires its EW capabilities to keep enemies at bay. The drone bonuses would mostly benefit the Sentries and Webbers. A player would waste all the drone bonuses if heavies were fitted. The scooping range allows quick changing of weapons (kind of like how most ships can change ammo) and also allows Sentries to be placed ôcreativelyö in camps.
The drone bay size and bonuses allow a few options: Sniper: Fit 5 Sentries. Solo Tackler: Mix of Heavies and Webbers Pure Tackler: All Webbers
The % Bonus is negotiable, it the type of bonuses I'd like to emphasize here. This would create a ship whose survival is maintaining distance through EW and Webber drones . . . IÆd hate to see another close range Domi style ship cuz that would be just . . .

a drone BC will have to fit heavy drones to get any decent DPS [unless its also got a lot of turret points, basicly its gona need more than 125M^3 drone bay space, id say 200 maybe more!
but what you guys are missing, is that this tier 2 BC will cost > 40mil [ie about 20mil less than a domi] will have 300sig :/ [ie everything will hit it as hard as they do a domi] so its going to be hard to think of situations where this BC > domi!
specilly with there being probably 50x more people with BS 5 than BC 5

drones a lot easier to kill, with less than half the HP,
also it does a lot less DPS than 5heavy drones with 10% per level would!
but yeh the tracking might be a problem, only thing u got to remember is that this ship is gona only be 20mil cheaper than a domi, so need to somehow make it better than the domi at something! and with bc speed and sig being so high its not gona be that

I won't bother using it if it can't have 5 heavies out, preferably with 10% dmg per level bonus. It should be a pocket domi: just as good with drones (though perhaps somewhat smaller drone bay, 150-200 or so), less tank, less damage (no large guns). 5 or 6 highs, 5 turret hardpoints. Low powergrid like the domi.
I'd like 4 mids and the rest in lows.
