I have been playing EvE for a few months. I can fly most t1 Caldari and Amarr ships and Amarr t2 Assault Ships.
I few weeks ago i traded in my Empire Mission Running Geddon for a Retribution in 0.0 space.
Thoughts on the Retribution
At some point i was reading the forums and one remark that really burnt into mind was "Retri eats Rats for breakfast. 160 dmg kicks ass". Now 160 dmg per shot on a t2 laser with a rof of about 2.8 is pretty sweet. So i traded in my Geddon for some implants and trained up for the Retri.
Our corp was moving to 0.0 which joined up with a powerful alliance (the rumoured most powerful alliance in EvE) so i left everything behind and clone jumped to 0.0.
My first few engagements were surprising. The Retri could tank any 0.0 spawn with lots of cap left over. Of course i found that flying an AF required a lot more attention to transversal velocities to take advantage of the sig radius than just sitting idly in a BS or BC.
The one thing that did dissapoint was the dps. It's pretty crazy for a frigate sized ship but its nowhere near 160 dmg every 3 seconds. So at the moment im training up my gunnery skills and playing around with some new weapon configurations (i use beam not pulse).
I've found that i can take on anything but a BS. BCs are a pain but they die eventually.
Last point. The Retri is useless as a solo PvP ship. One mid slot can either fit a scrammer or an AB (or MWD) and in either case most targets slip away.
Overall im pretty happy with my change for large ships to smaller t2 frigates. (The costs are still exhuberant)
Reflection
An AF is a lot tougher than any ship i've piloted so far. (Yeah some situations my Ret could handle better than a Geddon) But personally the dps is not on par with the amount of skill training i put into flying a t2 ship or with the cost associated with a t2 ship.
Lastly, insurance doesn't even cover a 5th of the ship not including the equipment.

What are you shooting at? My retribution could take on any BS spawn when I last ratted with it.

Swap your beams for Med Pulse IIs and watch your DPS rocket to 400-460 every three seconds, on structure. -------------------------------------------------- Chairman Mao Veto.

I could pop any sansha/blood bs with it, but it just took too long for my taste. I mean if you are bored and don't have any better ship around it is good to get a few $$$, but for hardcore npcing it requires too much work:P --------- Dead already? |

Retri I find has no problems braking the tank of anything upto about 1.8mill Bs spawns (though Sooooo slow) And ive got Small Pulse Spec 5 & silly +5% implant.. so you aint ever gunna manage to do much more to the dps lol
It makes a very cheap ship capable of 0.0 ratting, But as you said you have to pay 'minor' attention to transversal. And its not the fastest NPC'ing ship out there. So you may make more isk per hour using a Geddon, especially if you get a nice chain going

This is my advice too. MP2, Multi, AB2. Get in close, orbit at 3k, kill, move on. Beams on a Retribution for NPCing? Madness! And yes, it does struggle with BS post-RMR, but there's not much you can do about that unfortunately.

It can do it, but tbh, it takes too long, and that cuts into isk/hour.

I love my Retri. IMO its the most fun ship ive piloted. Best wercking shot ive done so far was about 340 with Med Pulse IIs and havent found a lv3 mission i cant do in it, even select lv4s. As for the insurance, welcome to T2 price inflation.

your rat type matters a lot, in my retri i couldnt kill angel battleships but i could kill a 1.8m sansha battleship in about 2 minutes.....it matters a LOT. ---------------------------

Yeah Retris are fun and make mince meat out of most rats, however it can't break the tank of Angel BS however I try so I leave it for fun and do serious ratting in my Apoc
