HI Gilgamoth,
I'm a Software tester and BETA tester for MS. I would be happy to test your app and report bugs etc to you as I have always used ECM for all my accounts.
I would be happy to do my part so please contact me in game.
Originally by: Gilgamoth As one of the original members of EVE-FFET hangs up his gloves for the last time, it has become apparent to those of us left, that we can no longer go it alone with the development of EMS.
Because of a promise made to Islay when we took over the original ECM code, we cannot make ECM/EMS open source, so we are doing the next best thing, weÆre opening up our doors to welcome new blood into the fold.
First a little bit of background on where we are going with EMS. With EVE Character Manager (ECM), Ship Fit (SF), and EVE Map (EM), a number of core functions such as XML retrieval and character information storage were duplicated within each separate application, so when we had to rebuild due to a bug in Delphi (which they were all written in) we decided to redesign way the applications interacted and worked. This resulted in the creation of EVE Management Suite or EMS.
EMS is the core function module that will eventually replace the overlapping portions of ECM, SF and EM. This currently does basic XML download to replace the broken functionality in ECM.
Modules will be able to plug into the EMS Core and gain information about any characters that are loaded there, but sensitive data such as usernames and passwords will not be retrievable from modules. Modules can be written in any language that can be compiled as DLL.
So what ævacanciesÆ exist?
20x EMS Developers û Under the watchful eye of EzTarget, you will be responsible for coding the core part of EMS along with any official modules (such as the replacements for ECM, SF and EM). The language currently used is Microsoft Visual C++ 7 (as supplied with MS Visual Studio 2003) although we are reviewing MS Visual Studio 2005 C++ Express Edition. You will need to be able to follow general group coding techniques such as using version control and black box testing. You will need to be able to offer on average a couple of hours a week to this project in order to qualify for one of these positions.
50x Beta Testers û Under my watchful eye, the Beta Testers will be required to bug test and feed useful information back to the developers. This will be on beta code before it goes live to the general public. Beta Testing is an important job, and anyone who just wants to join up because they think it means early copies of the code will be swiftly removed.
Module Developers û Anyone wishing to develop a non-official module in another language, may request to become a module developer. You will be able to utilise the EVE-FFET server to host your module info and web pages.
If anyone wishes to apply for one of the above positions, please log on to our forums and send a PM to the user Applications with a position you are applying for and brief details as to why you feel that you are suitable for that position.
Applications are open until the 30th June and then the successful folks will be notified
Good Luck
Regards,
Gil
