Doesn't a single equipped WCS counter all NPC-scrambling?
But yah... some missions are harder than others. _______

One WCS will counter all +1 scramblers. You need 2 WCSs if you encounter +2 scramblers and you will in this mission: Zor and the other BS.
The mission is one of the hardest L4s but definitely doable. However, if you just started level 4 missions, you might be better off skipping this one.
I am a raven pilot so I use 2x thermal, 1x kinetic, 1x invul hardners, all T2. I take out Zor first since he does a lot of DPS (use thermal on him). Then the named cruiser (Olufami, Elena, etc), then the BS and then the rest of the cruisers. Of course during all this time my drones would've taken out the frigates.
My skills allow me now to just warp in, stand still and kill everything but this was obviously not possible at the beginning. I would warp in, allign and take out Zor. Warp out when he die, warp back and take out the rest.

Well, you do sacrifice something: DPS and tanking ability (i.e. less BCUs or PDUs). But yeah, not so much compared with other ships.

Fact is one WCS does not counter multiple points of scrambling when facing npcs. one of the devs stated not long ago that this was only rumours.
Regarding the mission, this isn't really that hard. Try fitting the correct hardners and move away from the spawn after warp to buy time. Gank the cruisers fast if you are using cruise missiles to reduce the dps. Presonally I use a gank setup with a cap booster for this mission and I never really have any problems at all ________________________________________________

I do that mission in a sniper megathton. warpin, leaves u at 50-60km from spawn, kill zor, make bookmark, warp out, reutrn to bookmark at 100km, snipe...
I have no repair at all, just damage and tracking mods, some cap and a single thermal shieldhardener (cause in the beginning zor does alot of therm damage). Is enough to kill zor before shield drops, and when u return at 100km nothing can hit u anyway.

I tank it easily in my domi. Just put 1 extra Kinetic hardener instead of DC into standard DC+Adaptive+Kin+Exp+Therm+2LARII tank.
To ease your while in this mission, I'd suggest the following method - 1. Warp to deadspace, cancel this warp. 2. Warp again, you will arrive right in the middle of the rats, so you can kill them quickly instead of waiting while they close up. 3. Kill the assasins as fast as possible (gardes help here), as they seem to deal most damage. Aggro the frigs that don't agro themselves (these seem to wait while you launch drones so that they could gank 'em)), then you can launch ogres to kill the BSes. Then it's easy to tank. Oh and you need to run 2 LARII's non stop in the beginning so cap booster is the must in this mission. 18 charges a Domi can bring are usually enough for this mission. That all with tech 2 hardeners and lvl5 in Repair Systems. Ok I also have some slave implants and armor hardwirings.. oh well.

False assumptions that will eventually get you killed. NPC warp scrambling works like PC warp scrambling when it comes to calculating the srambling strength. This is verified by devs.

And did you know it has been nerfed in the past already because people whined that is was too hard?
Please don't turn missions even more to easy mode, they are too easy already.

Agreed and also know how to work the mission. You can also BM it warp back in over 100km away and snip stuff as it come at you.
All missions are doable. You just have to know how you can do it, which may not be the same as others ;).

Edited by: Eden Hawk on 09/06/2006 00:51:05 Got this as my second ever lvl 4 mission.I warped in to 100km with a sensor booster on and kept pounding zod.I then targetted the frigs who i no have warp cramblers as they are usually the ones to get close to you first. once they are dead i make a bookmark and if things get bad jump out. i then come backjump 100km from the bookmak i just made and target the named cruisers as they can jam then i work my way down the threat level of ships. Doing it this way u minamize the damage you get due to range and it lets you play it safe by taking out warp jamming ships first if your not confident on your tank.

Can you provide some link where a Dev confirmed this ? Or you just "heard" from "someone" ? If this is true then everytime I warped from zillions of scramblers with 1 WCS (and it happened quite a lot in the beginning) I must've been incredibly lucky.

Nah, not really. Most of the time, only one of them will be scrambling you. There's only a %age chance of some - or all - of them going at you at once, but it has been known. That's why people sometimes file petitions claiming "a bug caused me to be warp scrambled despite having a WCS fitted." Too bad, one WCS is no guarantee. ________________________________________________

Another strategy for you, i did it this morning without too much hassle, this was using a Zealot with 1 thermal energized and 2 EANS to tank, applies to anyone with short ragne damage who wants to do the mission without easy-mode missiles.
Warp in at 30K and immeadiately AB away from the mobs, keep going in a straight line, kill anything which keeps pace with you by slightly slowing to get them in range then accelerating up to full speed, pick off the fast BS that MWDs after you and see if you can drop a cruiser or 2, keep heading away until the spawn turns back to the starting point (about 150-175K from the original location), then do a 90 degree turn and fly parrallel to the pack, this will cause the some of the mobs to turn back towards you, but only half the pack, after a minute or so and they are nice and spread out, warp out
Immeadiatley warp back in to the original location at 15K and clean up the 5-6 ships which did not initially follow you. Zor did NOT re-aquire agro when i warped back in as he was still returning to his start position, so the missle damage dropped significantly. Stay around the warp in location and clean up anything which agros you until your down to 4 ish frigs, a cruiser and Zor, clean them up as usual.
20-25 mins tops + looting time.

I've lost a ship or two on this, though from what I remember... I can see where I likely screwed it up.
experience and ship fittings do wonders!
another thing on the WCS part is that it seems like NPC Warp scrambling is chance based... not absolute.
I've warped away without ANY WCS when at least according to the guide on what the ships could do, there should have been 4x 2 point scrambles on me. (level 4 a case of kidnapping, stage 4, 4x Mercenary Overlords. also pointing out that eve-info lists a chance %...)

I'm not bothered with digging up old posts atm but I was reading the very same thread where Zrakor responded to this. You can be scrambled for more than 1 point as a fact ________________________________________________

As with any missile heavy mission, this is much easier in a HAC due to taking significantly less damage from each missile especially Zor's missiles o' death.
I completed this mission in a Cerberus with ease although my DPS could do with a little work to make the mission go quicker. I do have an expensive Tank on the Cerb but it wasn't really tested.
Setup:
5 x Heavy Missle IIs 1 x Tractor Beam
2 x Gistii A-Type Smalls 2 Rat specific hardners (Tech 1's) 1 Standard shield boost amp
2 x BCS IIs 2 x PDS IIs

Yes I actaully do warp in the first place however this mission is set up so when you warp in whether its 15km away or 100km away you never warp in at those distances. I'm not sure how it works but useally at 15km away I'm about 30km past all NPC at 100km away I'm usually 60km infront of the NPC. So I BM the location warp out and warp back in at the distance I want 100-120km.
Not sure if others have notices this but everytime I have done the mission the warp in points are not where a normal missions warp in points would be.
Thank for try to make me look dumb.. but I do know the mechanics of the game. Thats why I solo all lvl 4's now.

It's not that.. it's the angle you jump into the mission.. you never know what thats going to be.
It makes distance not so important...
It's a bit of a bugger, iv'e never found a truely sucessfull ubber quick setup...
Best i have is a raven... 3 invuns and a thermal... and pick my pleasure on the other ships distance of warp in...
In the ideal world you get a nice 40km past your other ship... nail the lookouts.. then start on the crowd... but it does get hairy... iv'e tried all different 'kill him firsts' to cut down the damage.. nothing fits...
Just to let you know just how much damage they do....

Most missions isn't hard when you know HOW to do them properly, and how to BE PREPARED. I've gotten some notes about it here: Link
Short version: Buy a shuttle. Warp 15km to the mission. If you warp straight at it, it's no problem. Warp out, warp in at 100km, and bm. Next time you can warp in with whatever bs you want at 200km and get them spread out, which makes this mission much easier.
If you warp in sideways or worse, through the pack of ships. Just warp in again at 100km, bm, warp out, warp in again 100km to the bm, and bm again. I've done this in a domi with mediocre named cap rechargers, 100mn ab, t2 hardeners and a single large t2 repairer. And only drones that reach out at max 45km's. No problem. Just don't warp straight into the pack of rats.
If you use a sniper, it's even easier. You just have to tank some vs the spam of Zor. Most of the ships are short rangers, so you have a lot of time blasting them away if you start 200km from them.

I just got this on my 2nd mission on my level 4 agent. =/
How does this setup sound for this mission?
Raven
Hi: 6x Cruise, 1x heavy NOS, 1x TB(or a 2nd NOS)
Med: 1 Gist b-type thermal, 3x invul, gist c-type XL booster, gist c-type boost amp
Low: 2x PDS II, 1x named BCU, 2x flux coils
All my shield skills are level 4, and all relevant missile skills will be level 4 as well.
My questions are, should I drop a invul field for a 2nd boost amp for 900hp boost per cycle or should i fit in a eutectic cap recharger instead? Would the 3rd invul be effective enough to justify using it instead of a 2nd boost amp? Also, would fitting 2-3 torps in be worth it for taking down those 2 BS quicker?
I know a lot of people dont like flux coils, but it gives me a 348s recharge time. If I fit in the eutectic, that drops to 285 iirc.
So really, should I go for more resist, more boost amount, or cap recharge? _________________________
