How long have theses lines been here? These long lines infest the screen with no apparent function and are a growing irritation to me. Is there a function to these lines? And can they be removed in some hidden option?
I seem to remember that they appeared one day, but that could be the medication...

Um, if you're talking about the Tactical Overlay, you can switch that off
Find the group of buttons to the left of your capacitor/ sheilds etc. display in bottom centre of the screen. It's the third button down on the vertical group that's nearest to the centre display. Hoever your mouse over the buttons if you're not sure.
If you're not talking about that, then I haven't the faintest idea --

No not the tactical overlay. those lines that run from a targeted ship to all sides over the screen

AFAIK they have always been there... They are there for visual correlation, it makes it easier for your eyes to see where the target is, even if it is off screen.

My only problem with these lines is that they don't reach the edges of the screen . I like them as they make tracking your target easy. ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin

I dont think its an option, at least i'vr never seen it or heard of anyone disabling it. But as far as I can remember they have been there the whole time I have played. Though I may be wrong, castor is getting pretty hazy in the mind these days.

They might be ok if you have 2-3 targets locked, but with 7 targets these lines are irritating.

I noticed this too... I coulda sworn you used to only get the line while it was actually targetting but it vanshed and just had the box when locked - now the lines seem to stay.

I've been getting more annoyed at them recently too,. mostly cause I've started doing a lot more pirate-hunting/mission running... and so I get 8x2 lines across my screen obscuring the beauty of the game. ;)
remove all but the current 'chosen'/'primary' target's lines, I say... _________________ "No Worries" Karma, fool on the hull. |

I couldn't fly my ship in combat if they were not there, tbh. they are great help at instant tactical situation grasping.

Agreed, they do get really annoying especially for miners. Target 3 roids and the lines are all over the screen obscuring anything else. What point is there in lines to pinpoint a roid, it's not going anywhere. Once targetted, your guns track the target so there is really no need to see it yourself unless you like looking at the explosion which is obscured by targetting lines to other ships anyway.

Edited by: Andrue on 08/06/2006 16:42:47 I wonder if something has changed as well. I've become more aware of these lines in the last few weeks. I'm intrigued by the people who don't know what we're talking about as it implies there is a change/difference at work.
For those unclear:When a targetted object comes into camera view you get a targetting box around it. You also get a horizontal and vertical line intersecting on the target. The lines run the full (give or take) screen width and height.
I have particularly noticed them interfering with transparent windows recently. -- (Battle hardened miner)

Sounds good, Karma. In my case 7 lines are not helping identify my target any better. One set if lines for the life target is enough i say.

I wouldn't mind if we could toggle the lines. Sure it's very nice in pvp engagements and whatnot, but when I'm NPCing, they just get in my way, literally.

He's talking about these lines. I think I'd prefer some sort of indicator that only appeared for off screen targets myself.

Unfortuneately those lines have been there since I started in january. I hate them myself. I don't need them to find my target, as a quick glance around will suffice for me.
If they ever give us the option to remove them, I'll be estatic.
