Edited by: Magna Fett on 25/09/2003 13:17:43 I'm troubled at the recent developments, with the latest patch. Although I am a miner and I don't like pirates and ore theives, I still don't understand why CCP have made lower sec rating systems harder for pirates to continue their way of life. Pirates make the game interesting, and some area's should feel 'out-of-bounds' and stay dangerous without all the sentry guns everywhere.
CCP had an original plan for Eve which was fairly balanced the way it was, but now i see this balance being tipped and they seem to be losing the plot. This will only result in the game becoming boring and no fun to play.
I've seen too many online game fail, because the initial idea's we're changed to suit the moaners.....
I purchase Eve after playig the beta, knowing that the universe was uncertain. Now that universe is becoming too predictable. I know I can warp to a 0.0 space and be reasonably protected by the sentry guns... Before the latest patch I wouldn't even attempt these systems with the fear and knowledge that 'real' pirates may be there. Thats was the excitement and uncertainabilty that makes Eve so good.
CCP...... some things are best left alone, change the game back to the original plan, before it slowly starts to choke.
Rant over, I'm going back to mine in 'boring' safty. |

Not sure. The ability to play an outlaw is not getting any easier, but then again, why should beeing an outlaw be easy?
I think the vast majority of subscribers prefer a large portion of space to be perfectly safe, and since they bring in the biggest subscription fee you will see their wishes accomodated more than that of outlaws/pk's. This is strictly business.
EVE without PvP? I think it would survive, plenty of people more than happy to just kill NPC's, trade, mine, run mission for agents and suchlike.
Would EVE be boring without any PvP? I think it would, but then again, I'm not a PvP'er myself so even if all PvP'ers left I'd proably stay and just have my own kind of fun.
At any rate, I don't forsee EVE dying anytime soon.

Edited by: Rinekar on 25/09/2003 19:25:52 In response to the first post on this thread:
I agree Pirates and the dangers of deep space make it EVE an interesting venture. More risk means more potential profit. EVE in beta and even in early retail had had a good balance of this and low sec space meant ôenter at own riskö. It is a shame that a small vocal group of people have caused this game to loose the element of balance that it first had.
To the whiners:
For those who are wondering, no I am not a pirate nor am I taking their side. I am only trying to state that they are a necessary element in this game for it to retain its unique dynamic. As for those of you that would rather not be exposed to the dangers of player pirates or the dangers of deep space, I have one rule you need to live by, STAY IN HIGH SEC SPACE. If you loose your ship in low sec space remember that you jumped in, you made the decision to go there. So if you loose something or die as a result of leaving high sec space it is because you made that decision to leave it and you were not properly prepared. So stop whining about it, learn from it and be better prepared next timeà

well apparently starlite hasnt been to 0.0. Because if u had you would have realized that if the 0.0 space reside in an empire then it has sentry guns at the gates and stations.

They only open fire if themselves or their property are attacked.
You could launch an A-Bomb in 0.0 space and, as long as it didn't hit an NPC Corp, you'd be perfectly within your rights to do so.

Agreed.
And no, I'm not a PvPer. I run from Pirates
I bought EVE because it looked interesting and had varying PvP risk. It wasn't just another PvM-get-all-the-toys-fest
Take away the unpredictable bits and the frissom of unexpected PvP, and what have you got?

The real problems come with the ideology behind the game mechanics. In every good pvp game there needs to be an incentive to be good and an incentive to be bad. Roughly, you want it 50/50 or as close as possible.
Now with EVE there is NO incentive to being a good pvp'er. Why? There is little action, little isk, and you STILL lose security status. Now, in the recent CSM the security status issue was said to be in further development so we can let that slide.
This is closely tied in with the problems of being an outlaw. Outlaws are stuck from the rest of civilization, which just does not make sense. Now, of course empire space is not for them, but why isnt there a few bases in the 0.0 regions that are "hubs"? Think about it, you do not think the smugglers and pirates from all those npc "pirate" stations out there are that dead do you? HELL NO!
If CCP would fix the security problems and give the pirates a home, or an area to resupply themselves it does two things: 1) it will stop them from relying on alts to get their needed supply's in empire space 2) it will give the good pvp'er a chance to fight back.
No pain, no palm; no thorns, no throne; no gall, no glory; no cross, no crown.

EVE would suck without PvP. there is nothing like the rush of going up against another person in a 1 on 1 dual, where ship setups, ammo types, tactics and the amount of guts a pilot has can determine the victor. fighting NPC pirates is like playing tennis against a wall. its fun, but it ain't no sport.

Hey I like what they did in this patch. Crusiers now have alot more fire power. The maller now can load large guns like 250mm or heavy beams into all 5 high slots and still have extra power for capac rechargers and other goodies. The MOA now can match a thorax or Maller easily with its 4 Turrets and 2 launchers (cruise missiles baby) plus those heavy duty sheilds.
