.. the higher your faction gets.
Anyone have any idea how much longer it takes to go from 5.0 to 9.99 then it took to get from 0.0 to 5.0?
I have 5.0 right now and was curious what percentage (%) I am, in adjusted numbers, from being at 9.98% for the BS offer. I'd assume I'm 15-20% towards that number.
Ideas?

Very good question. I've also been pondering this myself. My guess it that it would take exponentially longer the higher you go as the natural progression makes sense if it's done that way. But a definate word would be good .

It's an asymptotic scale - to wit, +10.00 is actually an infinite distance away. The rate at which you move up the scale is inversely proportional to how far up it you are.
So at 5.00, you're only getting half the gains you were at 0.00. At 9.00, you'll only be making one-ninth of the gains ... from 9.00 to 9.9 takes as long as from 0 to 9 did. From 9.9 to 9.99 takes as long again.
It's a long, slow road. ________________________________________________

As far as I know it works like this: Every percentage gain from a mission is an absolute increase in standing points of X% of the standing points you have left to go to 10.0. So a 5% gain at standing 0 would amount to 0.5 points (0.05 * 10), while a 5% gain at standing 9 would only be 0.05 standing points (0.05 * 1).

So I'm really just several percentage points in, at best.
That is beyond horrific.
Oh well, missions are fun at face value.

I worked some rough numbers for this earlier (also working on the BShip offer). Assuming Connections IV, your final, unadjusted target is 9.975. Standings (unadjusted) for every 10% interval are (approximately, I could be a few % out): 10% - 4.51 20% - 6.99 30% - 8.35 40% - 9.09 50% - 9.50 <- Congratulations, you're halfway ! 60% - 9.73 70% - 9.85 80% - 9.92 90% - 9.96
On the bright side, just after the 20% mark, you can use every agent in the faction, so there's nothing to stop you having a change of scenery every once in a while.

Edited by: Lorette on 09/06/2006 05:07:23 Hmm plus the further up you get the better storylines you can get (ok, further up corp standings at least). I went from 6.24 to 6.49 in my last storyline mission (gall faction standing that is)

Of course it does because - as Baldour explained - you can never get there... |

yeah ya can; check out my standings in game... 10.0 with the Khanid Navy even without taking my connections skill into account.
What I want to know is why I've got 10.00 with them and have only been doing missions for them for 4 months while I have 9.96 with the Caldari Navy and had been doing missions for them for a whole lot longer.
EDIT: I suck at typing

I read or heard somewhere that the size of the npc corp has to do with how quickly you move up the ladder. This seems to be true as I ran missions for a tiny 2 station corp and skyrocketed past 8 in no time, and would do those same missions for a large corp and watch my standings slowly creep upwards.

Originally by: Drayce What Baldour says is true though. If I had access to say 100 decimal points on my standing it would be something like 9.999999997304185... or something to that effect
Which is close enough for most people. I'm a purist; I've always held that, if 10.00 is unreachable, anything close to it should be rounded DOWN to stop people claiming they reached it. I had this argument with a maths teacher once, when I got 199/200 on a test and he halved it, rounded up, and gave me 100% when I wasn't perfect. ________________________________________________

Here's why:
Differences in missions (because of the different base values for standing gains per), levels of Social, Negotiation, Connections and base standing at the time you did the missions, agent quality & NPC corporation size (=Corporation Modifier).
To wit:
Corporation Standing Increase = Agent Standing Increase * Agent Efficiency/Corporation Modifier
Agent Standing Increase = Base Mission Increase * (1 + 0.05 * Level of Social)
Agent Efficiency = 0.01 * (8 * Agent Level + 0.1 * Agent Quality - 4)
Effective Quality = Base Quality + (5 * Level of Negotiation) + Effective Standing
Effective Standing = Actual Standing + [(10 - Actual Standing) * 0.04 * Level of Connections or Criminal Connections or Diplomacy]

Exactly what I was looking for - thanks.
