I've run maybe 7 combat missions. So far, I've repeated one 3 times and another 2 times. The variation is 4, as near as I can tell. Is this all there are, or am I just pulling the same balls out of the hat each time?

I've done enough L1 missions to get over 6k LP with one agent (not got much else to do while the learning skills train) and in my experience it's more like this.
3 types of Rogue Drone missions - one is simple fly to deadspace pocket & kill, another is same but with 2nd deadspace pocket with 1 drone and the 3rd is kill the drone silo which always has a missile turret near it.
Disgruntled employee - easiest mission ever. 2 drones & 1 lame frigate. Use the deadspace gate & pwn them with your eyes closed.
Destroy the warehouse - a dozen or so rats scattered around a deadspace pocket with some structures. The objective is to blow up a warehouse & return the secure containers. Loot is better if you destroy the silo & habitat near the warehouse too.
2 freighter intercepts - frieghters in my experience are always badgers but I fly in Gallente space so your mileage may vary. Freighters are escorted by 2 or 3 low frigate rats. One mission you need to return 2 secure containers the frigate drops the other you just need to pwn the freighter but it will drop some ore (I have had 999 units of Omber a couple of times & 999 units of Jaspet a couple of times too) which is yours for the taking for a nice bonus but sometimes you get more rats spawning when you take out the ore carrying freighter. Neither of these is in deadspace pockets.
Random numbers of rats - There's 3 types of these from what I can tell. One is rats scattered around a system & you get 3-5 locations to warp to each with 1-4 rats to kill which is pretty easy. Another type is a blockade near an active stargate in the system which consists of 3-5 waves of 2-5 rats (next wave will spawn when you kill the last ship of the current wave). This one can be a little more tricky & sometimes gets me down to less than 50% shield. The last one is some rats camping a "locked" (as in fake & only exists for this mission's story purpose) stargate. When you warp in you will get an annoying message appear on your screen from a rat telling the other to pwn you. Very easy even though you're warping in to the middle of the rats.
Last mission type is Worlds Collide. In my experience this is the top tier of level 1 missions. Unfortunately I got it as my 2nd Level 1 mission which wasn't fun as I had no skills & no equipment & was utterly clueless. These days I rub my hands with glee when this comes up. The way it goes is there's 2 deadspace gates near each other which are owned by enemy rats (in my case Serpentis & Blood Pirates). Each gate with have a swarm of 5+ rats about 50km from it so if you're not up to owning them you can safely fly there & warp. Often the Serpentis swarm has a Cruiser rat (usually a "Serpentis Chief Spy" flying a Celestis for me). To complete the mission you need to fly through the Serpentis gate & I've never bothered going through the Blood Raider one yet but I will next time this comes up. Once you're in there you need to get to the gate which leads to the next deadspace pocket. I suggest using an Afterburner if you're not pretty good at combat as there are rats flying Incursuses & Tristans in here which can hurt pretty bad if they swarm you. In the next deadspace pocket there are easy rats (same as you'd find on any other mission) & you need to fly to the "Damaged Heron" & grab the ship crew just like you'd loot stuff from a can. Once you do this your objectives are complete but you can't warp out from here & will need to use the gate named something like back to the warzone. When you come out of warp it will be back by the 2 gates pretty much like when you first warped in so you can warp to your agent & complete the mission. I fly a Tristan & I can now kill all the rats I see on that mission in all 3 areas although I haven't been into the 2nd gate as I said yet. An afterburner (named preferably), armour repairer (again named preferably) and some capacitor equipment will help tremendously. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |

Much thanks for your informative post! I think this will help a lot in my level 1 adventures.

One other mission I remembered while watching the football (I'd almost hit the allowed characters limit on the last post anyway).
Avenge a fallen comrade - story is someone like yourself got killed by some rats so they want you to go get revenge. It's pretty much the same as the destroy warehouse mission except this time you have to destroy a habitat. 12-15 rats scattered around the deadspace pocket & I don't remember much about the structures but I think there might be a warehouse or silo you can pwn for loot too.
Now that I've thought about it I might start a compilation of all the mission briefings along with a short guide on how to survive them to help my fellow newbies.
I've only been doing level 1 missions in Gallente space from a Federal Navy 'Security' agent so if you are using an agent from a different corp or different faction you may get some different missions which I haven't seen although from the 3 level 1 agent's I've ran for they always give a mission from the ones listed here even though 1 of those was in a different Gallente Corp & they were all in different regions & the systems they are located in have different security ratings.
BTW if you want to make more cash & LP from rewards take missions in lower sec systems (0.5 is probably as low as you'd want to go if you can only handle level 1). Although bear in mind your agent can & will send you to an adjacent system for a mission so if the neighbours of your system have sec ratings of less than 0.5 you may want to reconsider using that agent. --- Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! |
