Originally by: Deadeye Dave That was one funny match, England were lucky to win tbh but I only saw the second half the only goal was an own goal. Yet people still think England will go on to win the cup?
A lot of teams are relatively weak this year. A lot of players are older now and still playing for their countries, a lot of players across the good teams are injured, and such.
England are without a doubt one of the best teams in the tournament - FIFA rank them second behind Brazil at the moment. As long as we get it together and the players do as a team what they're capable of individually, then yes, we can go on to win the cup.
Whether we do that or not is, of course, a different matter.

Thats the problem, right there. The first half we rocked, the second we were absolutely dire....
A lot of the fun of being an England supporter comes from the fact we NEVER do anything the easy way :)
The Sweden/T&T match was excellent too! T&T were superb. Sweden didn't play badly at all, but even with 10 men for 45 minutes T&T showed the world how to play :)
I'm seriously hoping they have knackered themselves out and can't play like that again next week :P

I didn't know they were in it. I didn't even think they knew what a football is.

Always easy too blame the referee
Both teams played a terrible game in my eyes. England was the better one of the two and deserved the win. Hope the next england match is better too watch.

when the only goal comes from an OWN goal its a poor match IMO, very poor strt for the world cup, i just hope they give lil Theo his shot, its almost a new team/era for us and its one the youngest teams in the tournament if u have theo/rooney/owen in the start-up which shud mean extra energy for our guys. plus the fact that if we win there is 20 of us at work who has signed a contract saying we're gonna have the england flag tattooed on us so hey its a chance for more ink lol

The goal wasnt a mistake, though. Although technically an owngoal, full credit goes to Beckham for it - it would have curled in without the defender. Even so, the defender did his job. He needed to get a head to a ball like that, unfortunately it wasn't the right head.
We should have won by more, but still - we won.

England are notorious slow starters in these tournaments.

Originally by: Stamm I am dearly looking forward to England going out of the World Cup, and the usual witch hung to begin, as England tears itself apart looking for someone else to blame for it being 'stolen' from them.
Ideally I'd like to see England go out on Penalties to Germany, after having Rooney sent off, Beckham injured, and Germany awarded a penalty that wasn't, and England having a perfectly acceptable goal chalked off. Oh, and a several hundred supporters deported for wrecking the place.
You wouldn't happen to be Scottish, would you?

Their first match is tomorrow, against the Czech Republic.
I actually think that the US might do quite well this time.

I think the problem with England over the last few years is that SGE has been making the lads play an Italian style of football - get a goal in front and then sit back and defend.
Unfortunately, most of the first XI like to attack.

I though Enlgand realy should have been at least 2-0 up at half time. However Paraguay did have a good patch just after half time, but then for some reason Sven took Owen off. This left us with virtually no attack and so we gradualy got pinned back in our own half.

england played awful, but paraguy didnt deserve to win. they lacked the finishing power, as did we.
downing played well, he'll probably play more under mclaren. what i dont understand is why sven went 4 4 1 1, crouch had no one to support him, joe cole just cant play like owen its a simple fact. why hargreaves is in the squad i'll never understand, he's awful
ivory coast looked very strong, its a shame drogba is a diving scumbag
