I predict a crushing 4-1 defeat, with goals from the midfield and Peter Crouch, the only goal being a defensive blunder that will be corrected in time for the Trinidad game.
I also predict a very, very large amount of drink, since Im going out for 11.30 and going straight out after the football til4-5-6am, which means a mammoth 18 hour drinking session. And I havent had a drink in near 2.5 months.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

England played fairly good in the first half but the whole game turned in the second Anyway, just an hour till Sweden's game and we will crush Trinidad & Tobago

England dominant first half. England poor second half. Referee was absolutely useless. Eriksson wants shooting for the tactical change on 55mins. Paredes for Paraguay was a diving cheating ****.
All in all I'm quite happy with the result, first games are always a nightmare especially with a ref like that and against a team of Paraguay's quality (beat both Argentina and Brazil in the qualifiers).
If England do well in the world cup though it will be in spite of Eriksson and not because of him.

Sven Goran Erikson deserves shooting for playing the second half without a proper striker.
We were lucky that didnt end in a draw.

Gerrard yellow card was a bloody travesty.
Sodding ref was a feckin' clown-shoe.
Fair enough, we got the points but winning them like that takes the edge off the result.
Ahh well. Onwards and upwards.

Paraguay had one good player and spent more time on the floor than on the ball. Ref did 800 tabs before the game, he certainly wasn't on this planet.

Theres not enough threat from the midfield.
England have to incorporate Gerrards creativity and driving attacking play. He's wasted in that holding position.
Very bizarre taking Owen off. People tend to write him off but he will probably still end up as Englands top goal scorer this tournament.
Disco Joe had a great match, had his opposite man tripping over himself. He's looking like player of the tournament material.
Excellent first half performance but England will get punished by better sides if they let their second half performances slip again.
Ashley Cole was poor, gave the ball away far too many times.
Referee's a ****er etc....

Looks like the squad selection has backfired already. Owen looked like he was still someway off being fully fit, Rooney is still a doubt and with erikson preffering midfielders up front than Walcott, England could have trouble in the goalscoring deparment. One thing that did puzzle me was the poor quality of Gerrard and Lampard's shooting. They are probably 2 of the best strikers of the ball in the world but apart from one Lampard shot they didn't seem to be hitting the ball well. Could this be down to a lack of practice with the new balls?

i dont think we can really blame the balls since all other teams have coped with them and only goalies are supposedly having difficulty adapting.
as for the tactical changes they were ****e just like the manager and the ref.
as soon as they said about the ref being controversial before the game even started i new we were in for it, and tbh i think even paraguian (?) supporters would admit the ref was a little... umm ******? --------------------

We're going to need to play a lot better than that to go all the way. But tbh, we weren't awful, we just weren't cohesive. Both yellow cards were a joke, Paraguay were disappointingly cheaty, too.
We deserved to win, but we only deserved a 1-0. We should have made it 3 or 4 at least.
Sweden looked awful, too. Trinidad are actually looking the better team of the three other than us.
Oh well....onward and upward. Not like anyone else who's played a game so far has looked any good. Germany looked *awful* yesterday, with that back 4 even playing ****, we'd dominate them if we meet them after the group stage.

I am dearly looking forward to England going out of the World Cup, and the usual witch hung to begin, as England tears itself apart looking for someone else to blame for it being 'stolen' from them.
Ideally I'd like to see England go out on Penalties to Germany, after having Rooney sent off, Beckham injured, and Germany awarded a penalty that wasn't, and England having a perfectly acceptable goal chalked off. Oh, and a several hundred supporters deported for wrecking the place.

A lot of teams are relatively weak this year. A lot of players are older now and still playing for their countries, a lot of players across the good teams are injured, and such.
England are without a doubt one of the best teams in the tournament - FIFA rank them second behind Brazil at the moment. As long as we get it together and the players do as a team what they're capable of individually, then yes, we can go on to win the cup.
Whether we do that or not is, of course, a different matter.

Thats the problem, right there. The first half we rocked, the second we were absolutely dire....
A lot of the fun of being an England supporter comes from the fact we NEVER do anything the easy way :)
The Sweden/T&T match was excellent too! T&T were superb. Sweden didn't play badly at all, but even with 10 men for 45 minutes T&T showed the world how to play :)
I'm seriously hoping they have knackered themselves out and can't play like that again next week :P

when the only goal comes from an OWN goal its a poor match IMO, very poor strt for the world cup, i just hope they give lil Theo his shot, its almost a new team/era for us and its one the youngest teams in the tournament if u have theo/rooney/owen in the start-up which shud mean extra energy for our guys. plus the fact that if we win there is 20 of us at work who has signed a contract saying we're gonna have the england flag tattooed on us so hey its a chance for more ink lol

The goal wasnt a mistake, though. Although technically an owngoal, full credit goes to Beckham for it - it would have curled in without the defender. Even so, the defender did his job. He needed to get a head to a ball like that, unfortunately it wasn't the right head.
We should have won by more, but still - we won.

I think the problem with England over the last few years is that SGE has been making the lads play an Italian style of football - get a goal in front and then sit back and defend.
Unfortunately, most of the first XI like to attack.

I though Enlgand realy should have been at least 2-0 up at half time. However Paraguay did have a good patch just after half time, but then for some reason Sven took Owen off. This left us with virtually no attack and so we gradualy got pinned back in our own half.
