Seems a popular trend nowadays.
Suicide Ravens etc taking down haulers and looting expensive cargo.
I guess its chance, a bit of a thrill. You scan the cargo, will it pop or drop. Obviously exceedingly tedious however in the times when your waiting for a hauler without insta's...
So is it worthwhile?

The idiots hauling t2 bpos and 100s of millions/billions in a easily killed ship are the reasons it's popular.

Even experienced pilots can be caught out by this type of thing. And yes it's worth it if you can find the right hauler and have a buddy near by to collect the loot.
eventully people will learn and adapt. I can forsee the sale's of tech 2 industrials and freighters increasing to combat the high sec menace. http://www.eve-files.com/media/corp/IXC/sig-barek-ascn-forums.jpg |

T2 haulers just makes it all better, then people load even more billions into them and afk travel to Jita.
It's still an indy..it pops like the rest with the right dedication.

Can they still be ganked if they are present and the transport is actively hardened? I have never tested it but have been told tranports can be surprisingly tough. Yes, still just a hauler and without aid the end is always the same but can they buy themselves enough time to live?

T2 seige launchers make your targets less juicy due to the 30mil or so you'll be spending to replace the launchers though.
Not that it mater if you get say... a Vaga BPO.

Hmmm...
Well that stinks. Seems broken to me. I mean EVE is a game of balance right? For every tactic there is a counter tactic. If I am actually doing what I am supposed to be doing to protect my cargo by flying a transport designed to be a rock and I am present (i.e. not afk) I would think the ship should be able to survive at least one alphastrike by one other ship. The flip side to that balance is the attacker either needs to find a way to live long enough to get a second volley in or use two ships.
If there is zero defense to an empire gank (except a freighter I suppose but that is a helluva hurdle) that is messed up.

Not really. If you put in 2b ISKs in a transport, 60M drain is nothing. If I am lucky, I am going to loot > 1.5b ISKs. ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT!

I wouldn't belive anyone who claims to of solo-ganked a large T2 Indy in high-sec. You'd have to do about 2000 DPS and still have some sort of tank.

If you are serious about hauling, use a tanked battleship.
If you insist on a T2 indy, just use an MWD viator--they won't even have time to scan you.

OMg i can't be completely safe in eve however hard i try. fix it! my god are ppl not ued to eve yet. YOU ARE NEVER SAFE IN EVE COMPLETELY, PERIOD! eve is a pvp based game. risk makes it fun and realistic. get used to it or go play lemmings, that's nice and safe. sorry don't like sounding like a troll or anything but it annoys me.

Get a grip man.
Where did I suggest "complete" safety?
I allowed that the gank can happen but the bar should be raised. Why have a T2 Transport if it pops as easy as an Iteron Mk-I? Makes all the bits about, "if you put a billion in your T1 hauler you deserve to get popped" kind of lame when the T2 hauler is really no safer.

Well, if all you are carrying is your T2 BPO worth 15 billion then sure. Tank your BS out the ass and have 5 support ships boosting you. But battleships simply cannot manage larger hauls. Some hauls nothing but a hauler will suffice for.
Besides, T2 transports are in the game for a reason and they should be able to do their job. Not saying you can't gank one still but it ought to take a bit more than doing the same thing to a Hoarder to kill.

T2 transport are blockade runners. They are meant to be popped. Harder than T1s, easier than freighter. Move in a freighter. They need around 1400 normal torpedoes to pop alone. ---------------- RecruitMe@NOINT!

I agree a freighter is the unstoppable hauler in hi sec but it seems we are still missing the middle ground.
T1 haulers = flying instapop T2 haulers = Not quite instapop, gonna have to work a bit harder for it, not so easy to train for but doable Freighter = Untouchable in hi sec, crazy reqs to get one (and by that I mean cost more than anything)
Right now you say you can kill a T2 hauler for the same effort as a T1 in hi sec. Since you are likely fitted out to manage a T2 hauler kill seeing a Hoarder with a load full of Zyd changes your approach no more than seeing a Viator with a load of zyd. You will target and attack the same. If the Viator is tanked and the pilot paying attention I think it is appropriate that you work a bit harder for that kill (i.e. survive long enough to start into another volley or lose a second ship).
The transport pilot has presumably done his/her bit to be safER so it seems only fair that you work a bit more for the kill too.

/me thinks this is a new player whine... if this isnt a new player whine but an old player alt whine... /me shakes head.
Anyway, come and live in 0.0 space. T2 haulers are pretty balanced and they are not insta-popped. You choose to fly alone in Empire space thinking it is safe. Battleships are haulers worst nightmare. End of story.

I am responding to Jenny Spitfire's assertion that a properly fitted Raven can one volley a tanked transport. So, if she can one volley a tanked transport how is killing that transport harder for her than killing a Hoarder? Because she fires a few less torps? Her ship will get CONCORD ganked anyway so I doubt she cares.

Just as an FYI: This is an ALT of an old player. I took a year off of EVE and came back and took over someone else's account (all legal and with CCP blessing). I did not want to start posting with that main as he had a history built in EVE and wanted my comments here to be "mine" and not an addition to his. I am not trying to hide behind this ALT and play and post with her consistently. So take it FWIW...if you don't like it *shrug*.
Quote: Anyway, come and live in 0.0 space. T2 haulers are pretty balanced and they are not insta-popped. You choose to fly alone in Empire space thinking it is safe. They are insta-popped because they are not prepared to be popped and the popper is prepared for popping. Ambush/surprise attack 4tw. Battleships are haulers worst nightmare. End of story. Welcome to non-consentual PvP.
As for this being a whine I do not see it. I am merely chatting here expressing my opinions of what I perceive to be a slight imbalance. I am not griping that empire ganks should never happen or that transports should be uber. It simply seems to me that a transport pilot is flying one for a reason...to be safer. Not totally safe, just more safe. If you can down one as easily as any other hauler (excepting a freighter) then I think a transport should get a slight boost. You can still do your gank but now you need to think about going for it in a 0.5 or 0.6 system where CONCORD takes longer to respond so you can get more volleys off or you use a second ship or you change your setup to tank long enough to get another volley in (or whatever works for you). This assumes of course the transport is properly tanked and the pilot is present and runs his tank. If he/she is AFK then they pop on one volley and that's fine.
As for 0.0 well...I doubt you'd fit this way to go after other ships in 0.0 so no wonder a transport does better. If transports got a slight boost to live through a one volley gank in Empire I doubt that'd change much for those going after them in 0.0 as it would likely add up to little more than having to put in a few more shots. I suppose there might be a few cases where that extra time might see the transport escape but most times a hauler gets jumped the writing is on the wall. Taking 10 more seconds to bring it down does not seem too onerus.

I never said that. A small boost to the transport would probably suffice. Although that said I really do not know. Depends on how hard your 6 torps overwhelm a tanked transport. If they are only just managing then a slight boost would do it. If they are raping the transport after the 4th torp then I guess there is no help for it.

From reading other posts I'm assuming that the Raven is the only ship that can suicide itself in Hi-Sec ? Or is it that the Raven is more efficient ( missiles never miss ) ?
