For a while now, Veto have been looking forward towards Kali with the hope of a radical new design for Eve that will push the boundaries even further.
Then as a corp, we decided to try to bring to the community our rendition of what Kali may bring, and what treats may be in store for the people who chose to allign to one of the sovreign factions.
This is the first of a short three episode series that charts the run up to Kali and factional warfare as Veto would like to see it.
Basically this is a show of Eve's prowess, and a capture of it's current beauty and graphics engine before it is lost forever when the upgrades come with Kali's release.
Everything you see in this movie is in game and is accessible on TQ, the graphics are captured with no motion blur or added effects to portray a true vision of Eve as it stands today.
If you have friends thinking about joining, it's our corp's fond hope that this series of videos will be some of the collection that you would want to show them, in an effort to convince them and educate them about the playground CCP has created for us.
Thank you to Kieron, for his help in making this possible, and help in the ships department.
Thank you to Veto, for your unswaying loyalty to our slightly less legitmate cause for the last 6 months since the formation of our family.
I would also like these three videos to form a dedication to the members of the Eve community Rampage, and ioctl, who lost their lives to tragic circumstances outside of game, you will be missed by many. Rest in peace friends.
The two epsiodes after this one will be added to this thread, in this post once completed, for now here is the first of three...
Hopefully you'll enjoy it.
Episode I - Early Conflics 75.6mb - Windows Media 9 - 800x600 - .wmv - 3min 50secs Soundtrack : Herzland - "Unheilig"

Greate vid, got shivers down my spine during the mini/amar flyby :D
The realy special thingy about this one is that there are races fighting races (Caldari vs Gallente etc) for those of you who didnt pick up on this, if at all posible :p
Im just praying to god this is how kali will be, although dubtfull unless CCP restricts faction missions to those faction ships in some way or another :p

I created the video with the help of my whole corp, well those who test on sisi sometimes.
I actually wanted to get a couple of big fleets together, but i think it'd be a problem as i can't get the people together, and co-ordinating it would be a nightmare
The video came out well I guess, and the whole of Veto are happy with the responses we've been getting here.

Verone, half of MC lives on the test server from time to time, especially when we're off contract. If you want to organize a few big fights, say 20-30 or so people on each side or maybe a bit more, I can pass the word and see what we might arrange.

Huh, now THERE'S a new marketing opportunity - hire the MC as EXTRAS for a vid!
Actually, uh, I think you could get a lot of extras for fleet battles at no actual charge.
Like, me.
Hold on, I've got a new idea for a ... business: become famous vid producer, invite a bunch of folks in all their faction ships for a stage battle and, uh, you don't need to know what happens next --
When I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally. |

Also i love atmosphere in it, really does a great job of portraying the tension buildup

Also i love atmosphere in it, really does a great job of portraying the tension buildup
The next two should be around over the next couple of weeks, hope you nejoy them as much as this.
The second will leave the story open ended... and the third is going to be a long credit roll with all those involved named, and a lot of eye candy
Maybe there will be a 4th in the future...

I don't know if it's some kind of conspiracy to majorly ass kiss Verone's ass but i just watched it..
And i have to say, did he pass some nice drugs to everyone to see something wonderful and stunning in there?
The movie bored me, the action was boring, the rendering wasn't especially impressive. The effects were pretty standard. There's only one non VGUI movie that had eye candy in my mind and it was Meridius Vanguard movie.
Maybe im missing the boat by being honest, but shesh. Go Verone go
Good job Oveur and whoever was involved to make the movie happen, don't know if Verone is the one to blame for the boring content tho.

The music really fit the mood of the video. The editing was good, not intrusiving upon the images presented. The slow pace of the music meshed well with the BS battle sequences. The majesty of the Ravens in formation, the slow grace of the Megathron really lended itself to the music. To me, this shows what the idealized Battleship combat in EVE should be if done in film rather than game, slow and breathtakingly beautiful. Of course, the battles doesn't work like that ingame, and it's quite a shame.
In short, this video seems more RPing in video format than straight action or pwnage.

Can I get some of whatever everyone else is smoking?
Seriously, I watched this video as soon as it was released and if you know me, you would know that I am the first to cut someone's video down. This makes me look like the bad guy ofcourse because whenever I post a negative 'review/comment' on someone's video thread surrounded by a bunch of sappy users who drool over anything EVE-related besides actually taking elements into account of what makes a movie truly great.
So straight up, I won't cut you any slack even if your name is Verone and you have somehow accumilated(sp?) a extreme amount of respect or brownie points from the rest of the community, well the more gullible ones. So I will tell you that I have indeed watched this movie, went meh. Then a week later Im seeing some really crazy responses to this topic.
So now Im downloading it again and rewatching it to see what I missed that made this movie so great. Other than that Im coming to the conclusion you went around to different public channels and private chats to tell people to post excessively positive responses for your movie, which would be sad.
Have fun flaming my post for thinking differently, I will be busy watching the 'greatest movie of all time!!!1' and Verone, firsthand I have nothing against your promotion of your movie. Heh, Im surprised because any other eve player after getting all these types of responses would have a head as big as the titanic.
I just find it ridicious that a movie like this, which was alright, pretty boring, nothing special could get four pages of tail kissing like this.
Seriously, did you guys watch the movie or just saw a topic created by Verone and entered suck up mode to see if you could score brownie points with EVE's premiere 'good boy image', Verone.

As for you, I don't care what you or your corp think of my videos, moreover I'm just wondering how much Kilrock paid you to jump on his "we hate Verone" bandwagon. Seems the "Angel Deep" flavour of the month
Cute.
It was intended to be released in good spirit as a reminder to the community what Eve was like before the graphical updates will be launched.
To the rest of the people who enjoyed the video :
Thanks for your input, and once again thanks for the support you give me when I release a trailer rather than an OMGWTFUBER gank video.
I've had some seriously problematic times outside of game for the last few days with regards to members of my immediate family and ill health, so unfortunatley the project has been delayed.
Thanks to the dribble Angel Deep have bothered to pile into this thread, plus the fact that I can't find the time to co-ordinate the next stage, as it needs so many ships, I'm no longer persuing this project, so there'll be no further videos posted in this thread and I'll use the time to sort out some real life issues.
Thanks again to Kieron, and CCP for the help with the Ships for the video.

Its called having Tityana on your teamspeak server 24/7. That element alone is enough to break the calm exterior of any warm-hearted human being.
And the minute you take criticism personally is the minute that you find yourself unable to take criticism at all.
Sorry about your real life problems.
So pretty much I will give you a nice fair review without the biased misjudgement that boils in me.
You already stated you benefitted from help provided by Kieron for providing the faction ships involved in the movie. That is all and well, but there could have been so much more done in terms of atmosphere, maybe a more dramatized storyline besides 'Caldari shot the Opux Luxary Cruiser which made Gallente mad' and 'Amarr and Matari hate each other as usual'.
Even with the pretty fireworks and metallic surfaces of the faction battleships which shocked and awed pretty much everyone in this thread evidentily. You could have put more involvement in camera work besides 'fly bys' and orbit shots. If you watch any war movie, in a battle scene it will constantly shift between a overview of the battle to the trials and experiences of a small unknown character who is in the midst of the battle. In which cases the character my rise triumph or die, each way it satisfies the viewer more than just the usual chaos shots.
There was no clear cut protagonist, now if this was a 'WTFGANK' movie like my *** movies I could care less about protagonists but this movie left the viewer to decide who he was cheering for. Which in some cases this is all and well but the fact that in each factional battle scene you could not determine which side was actually winning, it was just chaos.
And I could understand if you were going for the theme of chaos, but it just does not cut it. Anyways good luck with your next movie if you decide to recontinue it.
I am currently working on another movie, similar to yours but minus the faction battleships, and 'factional warfare' or such. You can take as many shots at it as you like and so can everyone else because I know everyone is dying to. I just hope they have a reason behind it besides 'I hate your movie cuz you didnt like Verone's movie'. But hey, I could care less.

To answer the "OMG it's a VERONE!!" vid question -
Yes, that does have something to do with it. Why? For the same reason that if Leafo or Loxy, etc... puts a new vid out. There are people who have been doing this for a long time and they continually put out quality products.
Verone has gone out of his way to create vids that have nothing to do with is corp per se, but promote the general gameplay of EVE. A lot of the praise here is due to the fact that, once again, he put a lot of effort into creating something at the 'community' level and not the corp or alliance level.
That's my .02 isk anyway....
Verone, seriously m8. I love what you tried to do here and would hate to see it die. I was serious about offering to wrangle up some MC toys to assit your efforts on this. Drop me a line before this weekend hits if you get the chance and you can get some prime footage of various large-scale ops if you wish... -

Just wanted to drop by and offer up kudos for a well-done vid. Great use of the cinematic camera views. All the vids with UI elements are getting pretty stale, so it's nice to have a breath of fresh air again. I agree with the spirit of your critique that for ANY video to have entertainment value it must have a story. It must contain characters that you care about, in a negative or positive way. Verone and I have discussed at length the 'story'. With respect I feel your slightly missing the point of this short film. The 'story' is trying to set a mood and get you interested. For me the opening scene with the Yacht being destroyed and the 'classified' information on the kill mail made me wonder exactly who was on it. Who would be so important that it would fuel a complete and utter breakdown in communication and lead to war. Maybe we will find out in part 2. The quaff company has many fingers in many pies and has massive influence over the political goings on within the factions. We do not know yet what the story will bring. Above all I think you need to view this movie for what it is. A short film to show a taster of what could be included for us in Kali. I personally think Verone did a fantastic job of this video, But of course I will be viewed as being biased as he is my CEO. This is of course a valid judgment to make. But I can assure you of one thing Verone does not just want to make eye candy movies for people to suck up to him.
...and do not worry were all bashing him to make the next installments as soon as erm.. things don't get in the way.

This is one of my absolute favorites in Eve videos. Great scifi-ish music, it really fits the epic mood of the action (instead of the usual agressive metal/punk/whatever tunes in so many other flicks). Nice storyline, very cool idea to think about Kali and faction warfare and much more entertaining for me than the often-seen "watch me gank them all, I cut out all the parts I got pwned and blackened out my fitting cuz I'm paranoid"-videos. Beautiful camera-moves and zooms... To make it short: This is one of the very few videos giving me a bit of goosebumps when I watch it. So many thanks to all of you at Veto for making this and sharing it with me. I hope you find the time to make another episode one day.

Edited by: Tevok on 04/07/2006 05:33:55 Edited by: Tevok on 04/07/2006 05:31:09 First, let me say awesome video, Verone.
I've downloaded most of the videos from this forum to check them out, and this is hands-down the best player-made video for EVE in existence. Excellent footage, fantastic editing, great music, and all the aforementioned is synchronized very well.
Now everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this is a great first episode of 3 episodes. I can really see where this is setting the mood for the upcoming factional warfare in Kali.
As for the above complaint about the "plot," these episodes are more like a teaser for EVE Kali expansion (in RP mode). The first episode is only just under 4 minutes long. Assuming the next 2 episodes are of a similar length, it's absurd to get critical of the plot. Your criticizing the plot of an EVE teaser lasting ~12 minutes, of which we have only seen less than 4 minutes. To criticize plot development, as if there's supposed to be a lot of plot development in such a short video, well...that's pretty ridiculous.
Again, great video. Best one in these forums, no competition.

Just watched this video, and I must say that I am in total awe!
This is possibly one of the best EVE videos I have ever seen! (and that says alot, have seen many many many)
The music is perfect! The editing fits perfect to the music, the footage and the music totally complement eachother to produce that awesome epic feeling about the entire video.
The camerawork itself is simply amazing! And yet you managed to balance the close-up intence bits with "slower" more overview bits and not overdo it. Simply amazing!
My hat is off for you!

I loved this, very nice choice of music, great video quality, and great camerawork. Things to improve on imo would be choices of camera angles, as you seemed to be having the combatants orbit one another while you used interests to focus on the target of the attackers.
However, on the whole loved it, especially the initial "formal reports" that showed the cause for war. Very nicely done, please get eps. II and III out soon!

Often I don't reply to long threads because my post will be insignificant. But I have to reply to this one; if there was anything even slightly more important about those ships fighting I would have cried, for real.
Epic falls far short of explaining it. Truly beautiful. ___________________________________________

This is an unbelieveably sexy vid, especially the Ravens vs. Megas. If you need any help with the next parts, Verone, please let me know and I'll contribute what I can. --- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?...

Edited by: Neon Genesis on 14/08/2006 19:54:39 Here is my constructive critisism. Saying this at the beginning seeing how much moderation has gone on.
The video was good, although from the description I was expecting a lot more narration. At times the video didn't feel cohesive to me, whereas at other times it did. A less brief description of setting maybe? The ravens vs megathrons fight was well done in storyline terms and therefore in terms of the video as a whole, however the immersion wore off for me when the megathrons bumped into the ravens and got twisted into wierd angles. This is what happens in game but in view of maintaining good aesthetic veneer imo it would have been a better decision to alter your ships fighting maneouvering slightly to gain a more cinematic feel. It's more the fact that everything suddenly becomes devoid of motion than anything else, and the fire going back and forth has me wishing the scene would shift. A good example of this is the work of meridius, who's camera work and editing is probably what has stood out most for me on this board.
Addressing the camera work in the video, it was well done for the most part. The amarr battleships firing was a great shot, in fact most of the battleship fights I liked, given the landscape style view of them all lined up like an army, which relates obviously to the factional warfare theme. Some of the smaller, more hectic fights however I thought were relying on the effects of the energy transfers and the orbitting shots were unremarkable.
This is all in the context of assuming a trailer/cinematic kind of effect was attempted, which given the high amount of RP quality, is a correct assumption?

Guessing you're a young player. Just an FYI, these types of fights go on every day pretty much 23 hours (minus the faction battleships), welcome to eve

That was certainly a well put together affair with music well suited to the tone of the piece, some novel camera angles and well synchronised editing. I must express some reservations however.
The initial combat sequences are pretty and obviously some considerable work has gone into aligning the various ships and whatnot. However, as mentioned already, once the ships begin to bounce off of one another the immersion factor is broken. Also û there is no drive or meaning to the fight. For sixty seconds we see shots of ships blowing one another up. A planned set-piece would have worked much better with different stages of the fight choreographed in order to allow the fight to end in some form of climax.
Also û the dependence of æover-the-shoulderÆ shots using the Parent/Interest function becomes repetitive. After a few initial shots, a 360 arc of yet another battleship with scores of other things taking place in the foreground becomes a little stale. Try livening it up with some exciting shots, swooping angles and perhaps even a voice over. That way the scenes are varied and the viewer is kept informed as to what is taking place.
Regardless û itÆs a competent piece of work and the above is simply my opinion and an attempt at constructive criticism. However, I believe Meridius still holds the crown for slickest editing, especially when you consider that he shot nothing, just ship after NPC ship exploding.
