Just wondering if we could maybe get a running view of the 6 week patches.
We already know the next one will be the industrial one, but thats only like 4-5 weeks away now.
Would love to know the road map for some of the bigger stuff so, at least I could look ahead and provide feed back on the more current things as they develop.
Like is the patch 11 weeks away going to focus on Planetary Infrastructure or missions or . . .
Also, I don't expect anything to be carved into stone for these patches. xoxo Amarisen Gream

I wonder if they even have a game design document (or plural) or just some random assortment of sticky notes, paper scraps, napkins or even just go from vague concepts they have in their minds. I know documentation is a annoying drag when you want to get to work right now, but it really, really helps to stay on track and identify potential issues from the get go and not when the server crashes. They've already messed up their roadmap as they detailed during fanfest.. I guess they decided to skip bits and pieces.. but here was the original plan OP.
CCP has already named and dated the next nine updates as well. HereGÇÖs what to expect, assuming delays donGÇÖt put the whole schedule through some crazy blender tornado. Gù+Kronos GÇô 3rd June Gù+Crius GÇô 19th August Gù+Hyperion GÇô 23rd September Gù+Oceanus GÇô 4th November Gù+Phoebe GÇô 9th December Gù+Rhea GÇô 20th January 2015 Gù+Tethys GÇô 7th February Gù+Theia GÇô 17th March Gù+Themis GÇô 4th April
as you can see they've only met one date thus far with Kronos... and already messed up Rhea .. I guess that's the expanision to fix the current nerf/expansion wtf ever they want to call it.. Crius august?? nope july 22nd..
Ccp couldn't stick with a plan if someone paid them to..lol
but as you know ... all discussion of expanisions/patch fix.. are always TBD.. and can change after someone says OOPS! its not ready yet. |

So, I saw what you meant. Someone at CCP can't count. If they don't count the week of the patch. Crius should be the 22 of July. Then Hyperion should be Sept 9th. I can give some understanding for changes in time tables. But I don't care really about the time tables. I am looking to know or have an idea of what projects they are working on -unless they are secret- If one patch came in 6 weeks and another in 10 and another in 7. I wouldn't care. As long as the content was meaningful. xoxo Amarisen Gream

I'm sitting on the fence.. Just watching.. I must admit I'm having serious doubts about the whole thing.. And the latest layoffs? It paints a pretty picture. The future concept of eve have me concerned. First off, all we have is talk about the future, no real substance outside of theorycrafting. Another thing is pushing out half thougth ideas every 6 week. Take a good look at how the industry patch will affect people, and how its handled. This is not a 6 week pushout either. If they don't take a step back and listen to the concerns of the highend industrialists; How will it be with the 6 weeks patches. The biggest concern players should have is how the backlog of issues will increase, due to Developers not beeing able to revert the dmg they migth do, due to their New designated launch dates.
It just seems the whole thing will add chaos, nothing more. "Psssshhhhh" |

Except you don;t quite grasp what the new concept is. So, lets see if i can explain.
Originally Eve Worked like this: they set a theme for an expansion, then they set up a Jesus feature, and worked in other features related to that. Then started work. Then they set a date to release it all and kept going. So, lets go with Planetary Interaction as an example. They set the date for, lets do Dec 1st. They need to do thing so players can interact with planets and they want to lay the ground work for dust. So they pull up all there ideas and start working. As they work, they begin to see that they can;t do idea a and b due to code limits form older features. Then they see that can;t do c because they need more time. then it starts getting closer and they realize they can't do d or e because it will take too long, so what we get is f g and h. with a promise to do a, b, c, d, and e later. So the PI expansion is launched. And the stuff that is left gets set for pi 2. patch in a few weeks. But at the same time, they start work for the next expansion, walking in stations, and begin to assign teams to do that, while a small team fixes the bugs in pi, but never finished the other features. So the cycle starts all over again.
The new release cycle, and the new thinking of CCP where they have no 'Jesus feature' works like this: Your team is assigned to work on finishing PI. they want to get it out 'when its done' Your team guesses it will take 6 weeks. So you start. During that time you realize it will take 6 months. So your teams keeps working on that. Another team working on little things, get 20 things done in 3 weeks, then moved on to something else. another team finished there project in 6 weeks. And another takes 2 months. Now the old way, all these would be rolled into an expansion in 6 months, so the stuff that was done early, they would either be twiddling there thumbs for things that fit into he new expansion, or join other teams to help. But with the new model, the teams done in 6 weeks, get there stuff in the next release and they move on to other projects. The guys who need four months can get all four months, and plug it into a release in four months. The guy who needed 6 months, when the next expansion is out in 4, gets his full 6 months. His team doesn;t need to scrap months of work cause it won;t be ready on time. So the work is finished and completed, and released in the next window.
The new cycle, in theory will give developers more flexibility to get features done. As opposed to cutting what won't be done and leaving it for 'we will finish this soon'
and the whole 'needs more pssssh' is just marketing, and those guys usually have no idea what they are talking about. Happens in every company. Layoffs happen, esp if the focus is going in a direction that no longer needs the other divisions.
Just because Toyota decides to stop making the yaris and focus on the Prius doesn't mean Toyota is in trouble, it just means the yaris is not viable. So they lay off the yaris team, after they moved who they could to the Prius project. 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

The cynic in me wants to say that CCP haven't laid out the future clearly because they don't have a clear future, just a general idea.
That's probably too harsh a judgment though and I suspect they do have a plan, but that it is still so flexible at the moment that laying out a clear path now would be laying out a future that will turn out differently anyway.

That was the general and long term roadmap that Seagull presented at Fanfest. Doesn't mean every release will have each subsequent feature, of course. They will be ready when they're ready. In between I'm sure we'll see some smaller stuff as they become ready for release. My YouTube Channel - EVE Tutorials & other game related things! |

Oh, you can get one.
However, given CCP's stated strategy of freely moving stuff around in the timetable to accommodate "**** happens" and various other unforeseen issues (oh, like devs being canned ) it's not really worth the paper napkin it's scribbled on.
Credit where credit is due, it's a system that CAN work.... IF a company has capable managers to crack the whip.

If you boil a frog slowly it doesn't notice and never jumps out the water. The question is, who's the frog...
The incremental patches seem like a way to stick it to one section of the player base in the most gentle way possible. Whether that is empire, big blue, or elite ovo rental rmt remains to be seen. |

i don;t think they need to push any back, that coudl do 3 patches of nothing but little things which would be quick and easy to do and still have plently of content. there is a crap load of unfinished stuff in eve that needs to be addressed 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

No this si a good judgement, i doubt they have all the details done yet. Its kinda liek when you go to write a story. You do an outline of what you want things to be, hero is a mage with this ability, and has to defeat the bad guy, and when he does the world is saved.
Thats the road map. Now that you have that, you fill in the details: Heros name is xxx he lives here and starts the adventure by yyy.
Thats how it works. its not set in stone just a general outline of what needs to happen to get to new space. How it happens, and when is anyones guess 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

You all know it, this 6 patch nonsense is the way for ccp to minimize its efforts on eve online. It's a desperat move, from a company that have lost its revenue on backwater projects that never worked out as they hoped. But do they learn? No, they are hoplessly continuing to pour money into projects like Valkery and Legion. If they want to save CCP, they should gamble on the pricewinning horse thats been solid for a decade. |
