That being said, I feel there is room for improvement. The eve skill training system is a double edged sword. In a later post I might address the eve skill system as a whole more, but in this post I will focus solely on learning skills and attributes.
Learning skills are not fun to train. They don't make you fly faster. They don't make you shoot farther. They don't make you mine more efficiently. And yet, any serious gamer, or just smart gamer, will know that training the learning skills ASAP will benefit your character the most.
People, especially newer players, feel an incredible burden to train these skills. It is almost a mandatory thing. The learning skills take about 2.5 months total to train basics to 5 and advanced all to 4. In that same time, I can level 2 characters up in WOW from 1-60. As an EVE player, I don't give a floop how long it takes to level a character in WOW, but for new players looking to join this game, that single statistic seriously bothers them.
This keeps people away from EVE. Good people. Solid gamers, who are respectful etc. Please don't use the "If people are so competitive that they feel they must train their learning skills first and stay in tier 1 frigates for 2.5 months, then we do not need them here, because they are lame scum powergamers!" argument.
Make no mistake about it, EVE is a competitive game. Any time spent not training the all-important learning skills feels like you are falling behind all the people who started the same week you, let alone the people who already have 50 million skill points more than you.
What do learning skills do for us? Why are they needed in EVE? To me, they are nothing more than a time sink, they are the only grind in EVE. And to make it worse, the longer you wait to train them the worse off your character will be. An early game near forced grind. BLEEH.
I have a solution......
well... lets hear it...
