This is my ratting setup. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and does sufficiently well. to tank 3 BS's and a few cruisers for long enough for me to kill th cruisers. It can tank 3/4 BS's indefinately, as they simply can't do enough damage to overcome the passive regen to the point that I need to run the shield booster for more than 5-10 seconds every few minutes.
High: 5 x T2 Heavy Launchers 1 x E50 NOS (for safety sake, otherwise a tractor beam)
Mid: 1 x 10MN AB 1 x T2 Medium Shield Booster 1 x T2 Sensor Booster (+- 150km target and hit) 2 x T2 Ballistic Deflection mods (Kinetic Resists)
Low: 2 x T2 Ballistic Controls Systems 2 x T2 Power Diagnostic Systems
Options:
1) Switch out a PDS for a BCS if you want to do more damage - though this uses more CPU, so you'll probably have to drop the 6th high slot. 2) Switch out a BCS for another PDS - helps the tank a bit. 3) Drop the Sensor Booster for an additional hardener (Thermal), this can also result in having to clear the 6th high slot.
For general <100km Guristas missions, drop the sensor booster and add a thermal hardener. Gives +- 93% kinetic and +- 91% thermal resists.
For missions like Right hand of Zazzmatazz, fit 2 Thermal hardeners instead of the kinetics, and keep the sensor booster.
Hope that helps.

Edited by: Amiren on 13/06/2006 15:21:48 if you have enough money:
5x Heavy T2 1x whatever
2x Gisti A Type small SB 1x Gisti B Type shield boost amp 2x Rat specific hardeners (best would be passive, if the skills are trained)
3x BCUS 1x named Damage Control
I have a low grade Crystal set, no Omega... I can turn on both SB continuously, have a boost of 206 / 2sec on 25 cap drain...
I really recommend this setup, i know it is not the cheapest...

I go with a damage control in a low slot and dual large shield extenders in the mids (plus appropriate hardeners) and have had great luck with it. A corpmate in his Eagle and I did worlds collide although at one point he accidentally shot the wrong group and brought mucho aggro down on himself for a quick death. I kited and killed everything that had aggro'd him though. Anyway, passive works and it is cheap. -= Save the Gila! Fix its grid and cpu! =-

Hi.
You should look at a previous post of mine *clicketty*
I also thought the Gistii A-Type small Shield Booster was a painful investment till I finally tried it. You really should try to collect the ISK fast to buy one of these. It's a lot of ISK but totally worth it. You'll see.
I recently invested 200m in a Dread Guristas Ballistic Control System. This gives me a little more DPS and it also gives me CPU enough to fit a e50 medium NOS. This is really helpful when I fire fury missiles as they have a cap penalty.
If you need even more DPS you could go buy yourself a set of 5 x DG Heavy missile launchers too. But I like the T2 missiles to much.
Some people will tell you that T2 missiles are to expensive and not worth the ISK. I beg to differ. I allways have scourge, scourge fury and scoure precission in my cargo. I load my launchers with precission as I warp in, kill all the frigs. Then I switch to regular scourge and kill all the cruisers. In this time I usually try to catch up with a BS so I can NOS him. Start NOSing the BS and switch to furies, then kill the remaining BS. Sometimes the cap runs low and then I need to deactivate the invulfield or the Gist SB but the BS does crap dmg on my Cerb because of the signature radius so there is no problem at all.
Sometimes you encounter NPC that have mad kinetic tanks, and then you could swith missiles to get a faster kill. An example is Gallente Navy Orion that have low resists to thermal...I switch to widowmaker fury on him. Allways look at www.eveinfo.com before going into a mission so you know what to expect.
OK, so the T2 missiles takes away some of the ISK profit from the mission, but I try to finish the missions as fast as possible to get more LP. I also have Military Connections and Political Connections trained to lvl5, this helps me boost my LP reward.
Hope this helps.

Hi again Waxau
Maybe I wasn't clear enough...YES they do!! :)
Actually I have been running lvl4's in my cerb for like 6 months and I have never had a problem. (oh wait, I lost a cerb once but that was because I was being stupid, head first into a big group of cruisers)
Your biggest threat is probably the cruisers. Try to keep your distance to them as some of them do great damage in big numbers.
Otherwise, yes, the Gist CAN deal with the damage. I go for 1 gist and 1 shield boost amplifier, some even use 2 gist but that's overkill IMO.
But this doesn't mean you don't have to think. You still have to tank properly and you can't just warp in at 15 and fire at everything. Use common sense as allways.
I should probably say that I have the shield compensation skills trained to lvl 4 on all damage types, some even at 5, so that helps my passive hardeners alot. Train those skills if you don't have them.
Otherwise...this setup rocks. Try it and find out.
