Newbie Quiz Show: Win ISK! No catch, just free money and fun!
I have done this about 3-4 times before, and once with an official forum post and a scheduled date. Thus, this will be the second official newbie quiz show.
The scheduled date and time will be Sunday at 1800 hours, barring any RL issues that force me to change the date. The channel will be QuizShow2.
Rules:
- When someone gets the right answer, stop calling out the answer! Repeated spamming of the answer long after the answer has been given will result in bannage from the channel. I'm fine with you doing it every once in a while because of the time it might take to google for a hard answer, but every question is too much.
- My word is final on who got the answer first. Your chat post will always show up faster on your own screen than anyone else's, so your screen is not always accurate.
- Google and all forms of reference are allowed.
- I have every right to refuse to allow a question category for the 572th time in a row.
How it will work.
- Categories of questions include: History, EVE Online (these will be questions that will not really depend on game knowledge--you'll see if you ask), Anime, Science, Computers, Computer/Video Games, and Mixed Bag. If you really have a good idea for a category, we can add it.
- Difficulties of questions include: Easy (100k), Medium (250k), Hard (500k), Totally Obscure (1m). Various Daily Doubles, triples, etc can add to these values.
- The person who successfully answers a question will be able to choose the difficulty and category of the next. If you keep choosing the same difficulty or category I'll be forced to refuse your choice.
- Have fun!

Edited by: Mik Nostrebor on 14/06/2006 00:29:11 Questions like:
What is the capital of the Antarctic Continent?
or
Two electric trains are heading towards each other, one from the west and one from the east. The first is going 120m/s then second is going 240m/s. The wind is blowing at 48m/s from the north east. How fast will the smoke blow from the first train at the point of crossing relative to the second train?
or
What is the difference between an orange?
or
If an Amarr female married a Minmatar republic member of the Brutor tribe would their first born son be bald?
or
Who made god?
etc
Orks corp is looking for new blood in Heimatar. Small friendly and experienced. Contact me ingame :) |

I prefer to stick to real, valid questions rather than puns and bad riddles
Example of a "Medium" Science question: Which lanthanide-series element is known for its use in high-powered permenant magnets?

It's Neodymium, I assume. I have a little gauss gun with neo magnets. But HELLO? THAT is MEDIUM??
So an example of a totally obscure science question would be what? "Please explain the quantum mechanics of time travel?" "Please draw a scale schematic of a working warp injector in loot cans?"

Easy = At least a half of the people in the channel should know it on the spot. A typing contest. Medium = At least 10-15% of the people in the channel should know it--for everyone else its an (easy) googlefest. Hard = Most people shouldn't know it on the spot, but one or two might. Should be reasonably possible to find on google/wikipedia. Obscure = Hard to find on google/wikipedia. Possible though. May take a minute or two before one of the 30-40+ people finds it.
The questions don't get more complicated--they get more specific or obscure.
For example, a "Hard" anime question: "The first episode of which recent anime begins with a scene that obviously parodies The Planet of the Apes? Hint: It starts with a P."
I will include such specifics as "it starts with a P" or the like in various harder questions to which there might be other answers I don't know about.

What, no sport-related questions?! )))))):
Sounds like fun however, Alex Shikari-Trebek. I may pop in and see who the real geeks are (not that I'm one myself -- just happy I can read and write!).

That's fine.
I'm not going to investigate every person who joins, its not a big issue.
The only real problem would be if someone who had enough ISK that they wouldn't benefit from the rewards was getting all the questions right.

No, its EVE time, the time in the lower left corner of EVE.

GMT has daylight savings time, EVE doesn't. EVE is UST, I believe.

I will come :) That is really nice idea Dark and fun too.
My little suggestion is to add geography, thats something you should know about and some really nice questions could be made with it. See you on Sunday :)

Sorry but no, GMT has no daylight savings time. It's the local time that gets displaced from GMT as you can see it here.
So yes, EvE time is GMT, which coincidentaly is the time zone for iceland.
