Of course, returning players, like newbros, should be welcome in the game...
but...
I recently stroke a conversation with one of those returning players... He rejoined in a ghost corp, with none of the buddies around he used to,play with, and obviously was eager to talk about his situation, and how he wanted to join a lively corp and all..
He was friendly, seemed eager to get back into the game, possibly could be helpful as a potential corp mate.... but something nagged me. ..
What if he was in fact simply trying to infiltrate my assets to tear apart what i had set up after years of playing In new Eden.. The returning bro is such a great angle for spy infiltration...
I am still considering taking the risk but I thought I would point out that it is interesting that the game's atmosphere is conductive to such thoughts..
It is nice to see CCP marketing pushing them to return, but once they are back in, what happens?

If you expose all of your assets and everything else to a new member of Corp, especially someone you don't know personally, you deserve to lose them.
Accepting people into Corp doesn't mean they should have broad access to hangers, POS, etc.
Ease them into it slowly, if they are an awoxer, then when they kill the first ship, reship to pvp fit ships and go have some fun. Its the pefect opportunity for some pvp.
However, don't let shadows scare you from accepting members unless your due diligence throws up some things that raise questions. Just being a new/returning player isn't one of those things imo. Come Win At Eve - Join The Vendunari

Hi there!
I am a perennial returning vetbro, one look at my killboard will reveal a rough pattern of 3-6 months playtime followed by anywhere from 6 months to a year off time. With the exception of the relatively quiet corps history, I could be your worst nightmare. I mean, these guys I'm with? They're taking a seemingly big chance.... don't know me from adam. But they did their API checks and interviews and as much homework as they could and took a chance on me. I am assuming they are glad they did, but who knows what they say behind my back!
Anyway, do your due diligence, and obviously don't give access or roles without getting to know them and just pay attention to things like how your fleet always seems to get caught by the perfect counter fleet when he's around listening in comms with his mic muted while he's afk "getting dinner".... It is really hard to change your signature settings |

As a returning player I can verify it's hard to get back into the game. I took a year off and came back to an empty corp. I've almost joined three corps now, the last one even did a full api check, three on TS interviews, I received an acceptance to join. So I sent in my full API again set to not expire. Then a couple days later I received an eve mail from a different member of their corp saying that I had been rejected with a bs excuse that as a policy they don't tell applicants why they are rejected.
So yah, the rampant paranoia makes it so most existing corps would rather not give chances to new /returning players rather than take a chance with them and just be smart about how they invite them in / set corp securities / etc. Luckily I have a rl friend who's bank rolling me so I can set up a high sec pos and start doing some solo production till I find a niche again. |

Sounds like your title should be can they be trusted.
I've recently returned myself, can I be trusted in a corp sure as much as the next person.
Can I be trusted to stay in the game, now that's another story as I've had several breaks from EVE over the years.
First thing with any new player that joins a player corp, don't give them any roles this works both ways, one makes you feel better and less paranoid for awhile at least and secondly makes it easy for them to leave if they don't like it in the corp (assuming this hasn't changed). |

Personally im less paranoid with returning players then "new players" when it comes to theft and similar. If the character in question appears to actually at some point having been an actively used character (forum history, KB activity and similar) i dont question (as much) if they are just resurrecting an old account/character to infiltrate a corporation.
And even if something bad comes up during the research done during the recruitment process.. Often if the recruit is honest about it up front and they seem to have a general good attitude i find my self.. overlooking their history. I have met many pirates, thief's, spies and similar that are (despite what most like to think) really nice people that work harder then many of their fellow corp members to make sure everything is running smoothly. Just because someone thought it was exciting to see if they could pull off a heist 6 years ago it does not mean that they will do it again. But, its a risk thing, and if a recruiter wants to be 99% sure that nothing like that happens to their corporation they cant take that risk.
For me personally the biggest concern with people who return to the game is that i cant rely on them to actually keep playing for more then a few months before they decide to stop playing again. At that point i have to question if its worth wasting my time on this person in the hopes that maybe they will stick around. This has changed.
There is still a 24 hour wait to kick someone from a corporation, but a member can now instantly quit a corporation if they want. However, if you want to avoid having the NPC corp in your history when your switching corporations you have to wait the 24 hours like you used to from what i have seen.

You will have to take the risk which kinda makes it all more exciting doesnt it :)

* Check his employment history if he has any. Contact previous CEOs and ask if they can vouch for him. * Use the API checker and focus on mails, wallet transactions and contacts. If he pretends to be new for example but got a 1bil donation from some random dude you basicaly know whats up. If he refuses to send his API you also know whats up. Newbies might not know how it works so guide them through and again make sure its a FULL API * Check the killboards such as EVEKILL, Battleclinic and Zkillboard to see how active he was PVP wise and who he was flying with. * Make a TS3 interview and see how he talks. New players usualy don't know about stuff such as Nano Kiting, Spidertanking or certain mission or ore types. * Still in doubt ? Take it slow on the roles. Dont give him access to fancy stuff in the corp hangar, pos management or Corp Wallet Access.
These are pretty much standard for Null Sec corps. Doing all the checks is annoying as hell but worth it. So if you want to be 100% sure go with the stuff above.
Or you can just trust the guy but I still highly recommend beeing slow on the roles and corp stuff access. See how he does or if anything is suspicous.
Most new players or returning players usualy dont push for corp roles or access since they dont really know whats its about in the first place ;)

Pretty sure when he logs back in after DT he will be kicked. Its eve, trust no one. My first corp had a thief who hung around for over a year before he made his move. so you never can be sure. If you look at all the null shenanigans.. even CEO's and directors switch allegiance at the flip of a coin. My view is.. if you don't know where the person lives in RL.. don't trust them

Choosing to go solo will definitely limit your growth as a player. There are tons of decent corps out there who can help you grow. Your in game skills is not the only learning required in eve. Most corps will take new players after they have started subscribing 30+ days old. You will almost always be treated as a suspicious player as that is just the way the sandbox works.
