Actually it's quite simple 
We use IRC, and the word "Cap" comes up in so many places when playing or talking about eve :)
As I'm a Captain, I need an alert when someone types my name ... I was simply fed up of it being set off by someone talking about something else.
Name research 4tw, imo.
