Hey guys, A repost... Original message didn't post, blah, re-writing it. So I'm currently using projectiles on my frig and cruiser. Currently I'm getting range of about 4k or less otherwise I miss. How do hybrids compare to projectiles?
From what I have gathered hybrids have a higher range, but how's the damage compared to PLs? Also lets hypothetically say that I'm using Tempest BS, what should I run on it? Hybrids of PLs? Any advice is greatly apprechiated.
Cheers and thank you.

Put projectiles on it!
You might want to read the description on the ship in future, particularly any bonuses it might have, if confused at a later date.

Hybrids come in 2 variations: Railguns and Blasters
Railguns = medium rate of fire, medium damage and long range (low to medium dps) Blasters = fast rate of fire, medium damage, and close range (high dps)
Projectile turrets come in 2 variations: Artillary and autocannon
Artillary = slllooow rate of fire, very high damage and long range (low to medium dps, but good burst damage) Autocannons = verty fast rate of fire, low damage, and close range (high dps)
Tracking on hybrids is general better than its projectile equivalent Projectile turrets do not use capacitor

Basically right now being 4k away from a target in order to inflict damage limits my tanking ablility to high level mobs / rats. I figure I'd want something that will keep me decently out of rat's range, so I am safe to approach higher level mobs.
Currenty I'm running 50% PL and 50% ML on my Rifter. I use MLs for kiting reasons for high level stuff and mix of both for close range combat. But like I said, tanking only works on low level stuff. That's why I was looking at hybrids which apparently have a longer range (from the ones I saw on market).
I guess I'll primarly stick with PLs then. Unless anyone else has any other opinions. Thanks agian for your time.

I'd suggest either going full long range or full close range (probably full long range + speed is best for npcing)
So that means if you are flying a minmatar ship, use artillary/missiles. If you are flying a gallente or caldari ship use railguns/missiles.

This one is easy to answer: The tempest gets 5% rate of fire and damage bonus on projectiles per skill level (in minmatar battleship). And the bigger fall-off values of projectiles helps to use them beyond optimal range. (edit: Ok, it's especially a big factor with auto-cannons )
But if you want to use rails on a long-range BS, use a megathron ... or wait for the new caldari tier-3 battleship. But I recommend to specialise, especially if you want to pvp. Training all races bs and guns to a decent level e.g. with tech-2 fitting takes ages.

Oh, I'm sorry. Even two years after Earth and Beyond MMORPG has shut down I still use that lingo. ML = missiles, PL = projectile. Sorry for any confusion.
Alright I'll still with projectiles for now then. Maybe meddle a little with hybrids, but nothing too significant. Thanks for advice guys, much apprechiated.

with hte new projectile changes and boosting - and the stength of the gallene blasters and railguns i do believe the vigilant and vindicator will become much more affective ships to use. NPC and combat.

Ignore this, I think a Tempest makes a fine warship once you have the skill. :) |

I think what he's trying to say (although in a really unessecarily rude way, welcome to the EVE forums!) is that it's unwise to fly a battleship until you have a good understanding of the tactics and fittings such a ship will require.
Battleships are expensive things to lose and much more difficult to fit and use properly than frigates and cruisers. Follow the path from frigates to cruisers to battleships and you will find you're able to fly your battleship far better when you get there than if you just leap straight into a BS as fast as you can.
There's more to it than simply skillpoints

Always play to the strength of a ship, just about all ships come with weapon bonuses for example the ferox gets rail gun bonuses, (even though everyone uses missiles in them), tempest gets projectile bonuses ect ect..
Look at the ships information and see what you get a bonus with, you can use anything you like but you will gain much more if you uses the guns it was disigned to be used with.
just the same as if you decide to armour tank or shield tank got with the ships strongest atribute, aslong as it has the slots to accomodate.

if you don't know what guns to fit, you aren't good enough to fly a battleship yet. Learn to play the game better, then get in one. It hurts less to lose small things.
