... in highsec.
It makes no sense to me that i'm not legally allowed to shoot a pilots pod, when the pilot just ganked a miner in a belt ... for example.
He's a criminal, as the GCC states, so he should be a legal target to shoot at.
Furthermore, it actually motivates for more player to player interaction, because miners can set up bounty on pods and thus pay others to shoot these.
Just allow people to do it via rightclick, in space. The reason, why i should have to dock up, before i can put a bounty on someones head ... ... that's way beyond me, actually. ^^
The current mechanic actually prevents them from interacting with others, by not giving them the opportunity to pay others for some small payback against the ganker.
You may say "podding them wouldn't change anything", but the additional hassle may and will be very well worth it.
And it's good for killmails too, which have quite a big fanbase out there, right ? :)
So ... i say, make these pods legal.
Thanks. :) |

Well, they are unarmed of course, because they're pods.
The usual highsec dweller won't be affected at all, except if he commits a criminal act.
That's the point. He's a criminal, hence should be free to get podded.

I just know that, last time i did it, i got CONCORDed.
And i am quite sure the pod i have shot had a GCC, because he tried to gank me five seconds earlier.

Legal pod shooting for the common aggression flag is a bit over the top, because it could/would hit noobs in starter systems too hard. |

Shooting temporary-GCC'd pods would be enjoyable - but it wouldn't do much to curb suicide ganks (gankers would just go without implants).
It might cause issues in lo-sec fights where you choose to temporarily go GCC in order to engage a low-standing or neutral pilot (for NBSI RoE). Now, not only will everyone be free to shoot at you for going GCC, but they'll also be able to take shots at your pod without becoming GCC.

Can't take it too literally, but you can disable a criminal's car, you can disable a criminal's mobility (ie: shot to the leg), but you can't actually kill the criminal, in most cultures/laws/etc. Not unless it's under certain circumstances, and in self defense. Pods don't have weapons, ergo... Just an example. |

Fair point. |

Could be good, could be bad.
Most people in lowsec will engage you this or that way anyway, and they will or will not shoot your pod, with all it's consequences.
They're in lowsec for a reason. I understand your point, but it doesn't really matter there anyway.

I like the idea.
It adds a penalty where there are very few penalties and the lowsec concerns really aren't much to worry about.
If you go to lowsec, you expect others to try for your pod as you try to get out of there so additional risks would be minimal. Also, if you are nailing neutrals and low standings folks - you are "ganking" them so the added pod GCC penalty fits. Why should such activities be protected by sec status hits?
If you're going to gank - be it against a pirate type or against a miner - you should accept risks that it can backfire on you.
Those that say it won't stop the activities are right and, as such, it opens up a new type of highsec group and new options for "hiring mercs" to help protect.
PS: med clone insurance isn't that cheap for some so the additional few million for a pod... To hell with "implants", there are "isk sink" costs associated with this idea as well as game play changes. |

I would guess that one of the reasons for not allowing pods to be killed legally is to help new players. They accidentally get themselves concorded and find themselves sitting in a pod saying "wtf?". What they generally don't want is someone coming along and also podding them, probably costing them SP.

Yes, but it would stop the station humping "hi-sec PvPers" that like to sit in docking range in brick Proteuses and Vindi and such with slave implants.

Players who voluntarily shoot other players aren't adverse to risk, but are also well-versed in the ways of minimizing it. Someone who destroys your ship is prepared to lose his own, and on top of that, is prepared to lose his pod. On top of this, it isn't a difficult task to save your pod from any threat in high-sec, aside from smartbombs.
This change would be inconsequential, aside from negatively affecting the noobies, as a previous poster has stated. |

Even if they changed this it would just mean people would make SURE to have no implants installed before doin a high sec gank, it would actually make it even MORE pointless to pop pods in high sec. Leaving it as is you might get an odd person here or there with an expensive pod who wasnt expecting it.
So seriously.......whats the point, pods are cheap unless the pilot thinks its semi safe to leave implants in. |

Maybe read the OP again without reading only what you want to read.
It's not about shooting pods with "expensive implants", it's about shooting pods of pilots who are criminals.
The point is that they are criminals and it doesn't make sense not being able to legally shoot the pod of a criminal. |

I'm just asking why, dosent benefit anyone, and might negatively affect newer players as someone else pointed out.
Makes plenty of in-game sense that CONCORD would outlaw pod killing outside of sanctioned Wars, so its not immersion breaking either.
So its not going to increase risk, its not adding immersion, it might have negative effects on newer players.......pros? |

Pros..
It gives guys like me more to do, because i like shooting pods that have bounty.
I do it even if get CONCORDed, but constantly upping my sec for something i believe is a niche business doesn't really up the fun.
It would encourage more player to player interaction ... miners hiring people or encouraging people to pod gankers.
It fills a hole in the logic, which actually adds immersion.
Victims of ganks may get a feeling of "i can fight back at least SOMEHOW", which is a good thing, because it increases the chance that they keep mining.
Oh and it actually increases risk, because it seems that pods aren't warping out that fast anymore after the ship explodes ... and when the pod is gone, there comes the hassle and the cost for the clone.
I know it's actually a change with small benefits, but i believe that they add up.
More player interaction. More sense for the bounty system. A bit more hassle for gankers. Miners wouldn't feel totally helpless.
Maybe there are other points, but i'm in a hurry now. Feel free to add some. ^^ |

By that logic, people who steal an apple should have their hands cut off. Which is severely outdated, outmoded, and far beyond a reasonable punishment. If EvE "isn't the real world", then perhaps it's a society hundreds or even thousands of years ahead of our current one. What makes you think they would *regress*?
It may be "reality", it may not be, it may be "reality within a game", or "a game with it's OWN reality". but there ARE certain ethical and common-sense concepts that are universal.
I mean, we're in SPACESHIPS... shooting... SPACESHIPS... with... LASERS (and such). Not running around in spacesuits, wielding scimitars (and by that I mean the sword, not the ship) or claymores (and by that I mean the sword, not the ship), or rapiers (by that I mean the sword, not the ship).
Perhaps podding SHOULD be allowed, if the pilot THEMSELVES podded someone. Then they're guilty of murder, and not just property damage. |

Gankers cost you your ship ... and you compare that to stealing an apple.
You are bringing real life into a game.
There are only those rules the makers apply to the game.
There are only those common beliefs, (is "common beliefs" the right wording here ?) that every player accepts by and for himself, or those that get forced onto him ... by the makers.
Just because you believe things are "right", doesn't mean that there needs to be a global consensus about ... ... what you believe is "right".
You could be "wrong", too.
You can't tell and don't know if it's a "regress". They could be living by the hard laws of nature, instead of that sickening [whatever] people believe they have in "modern" societies.
Anyway, philosophy is offtopic.
The concept of "Live and Death" doesn't apply at all, simply because we can not die.
There is no murder in EvE, because nobody can die.
One can only commit suicide, or "his girlfriend deleted his characters".
Common-Sense is something that even in the real world doesn't get applied, (or used) and in EvE we're still a bunch of humans sitting in front of a computer, and aren't people from an imaginary future, living with beliefs you think these people "have" ...
... or "may have" ... but actually: "may or may not have".
LONG STORY SHORT:
You went totally offtopic. Please stick to the topic at hand, or open another thread about it. :)
I only want to be able to legally shoot pods that have a GCC, simply because they are criminals and because it makes sense, too. |

A new player doesn't have med clone insurance costs - the first one is free for over a million SP so no SP loss. They also won't be packing expensive implants and losing the pod would put them back to where? That's right, their home station where they'll need to go to get their replacement ship - or home vs arnon which will remind them to change their home station as they move around.
The costs of losing their SHIP will hurt the new players vastly more than losing their pod at the get-go. It would be a virtually zero lose for them and instantly move them to their home station to get a replacement vs flying there in a pod.
Anyone beyond that "freebie med clone" coverage SHOULD know better and an accident that puts 'em in their pod to be shot at... A bit of annoyance to them but I'd doubt they'd go ape crazy over an issue and, again, it should be trivial costs even to them.
Sorry but I don't see this as a valid concern and yes, I am one of those who advocates protecting new players - fairly heavily. |

as you do have a medical clone and always can and should get a new medical clone after you have been podded, there is no risk in loosing SP. especially for low amounts of total SP, the cost for clones is rather cheap. as mocam pointed out "the first one is free for over a million SP"! furthermore, compare those costs to the loss of the ship and modules. i dont see any noob protection necessary. check the moderated little ideas/10000 papercuts/low hanging fruit article! comment, bump(!) and like what you like: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Little_things_and_ideas_-_low_hanging_fruit_-_10000_papercuts |

+1, i totally support this proposed change (allow podding during GCC.)
while we are just at it, furthermore i would like 1. kill rights to be extended to allow podding. implants are a noteable factor for success in pvp and as such should be also on the table. 2. allowance to attack players with bounty anytime everywhere, there is a reason they got bounty first place. concord should look away. 3. placing bounty should be always possible once a criminal act towards you has been committed, not only when the criminal has below -1 sec status. (*) 4. you should also be given kill rights on outlaws (< -5), because within your 30 days they might restore their sec status.
(*) we all know bounty hunting needs to be fixed, e.g. by YABS ... there should also be a way for the criminal to get rid of a bounty e.g. by paying back a multiple of the bounty to concord or the victim. and collecting bounty through alts needs to be stopped.
Jetset Movashaka wrote:By that logic, people who steal an apple should have their hands cut off. in eve, that is exactly what should be allowed, because in eve... 1. you can get new hands any time 2. new hands dont cost much 3. the crime you committed first place probably cost the victim much more than a new pair of hands for you

But yeah, go ahead and beg CCP to change it. They won't, and even if they did you'd not get me. Next thing you'll be asking for is, "CCP, could you nerf pods in hi-sec so we can catch them?" Because you're a bunch of ****ies that don't understand and can't handle this game. |

A) PvE fit BS get ganked a lot. One made the news not too long ago because of how much the gankers made off him. It's a legit tactic.
B) If you mine in 1.0 space the difficulty of ganking you goes up quite a bit. Stay out of .5 to eliminate risk. Don't mine in .5 in a retriever. Stay aligned, etc...etc... It's not like those getting ganked aren't actually asking for it by bringing paper hulls into the least secure hi-sec they can find (because it makes them more ISK) and then go AFK. I'm sorry but....I'm just not sorry. If you were actively playing the game and using any amount of strategy or even tactics...I would not be able to gank you so easily. |

Shooting any "container" that dosen't belong to you makes you go GCC. As does shooting scary yellow people with bounties on them who warped into belt.
Podding newbies who spent half of all the money they ever earned on implants because that's what their corpmates told them was the best long term investment definitely hurts them.
Also lots of people go GCC when I am killing one of their friends and they don't have aggression on me. I will pod those people too. New players are also the people least likely to warp their pods out after being blown up too so it's good for me. |

You seem to argue both sides. On the one hand, gankers use these barely used, throw-away accounts and you need to be able to pod them to make them PAY FOR WHAT THEY'VE DONE!!! because expecting them to be huntable is a laughable proposition....on the other hand, podding newb toons costs them nothing.
So which is it? Are people out there ganking on their main, or another well trained, often used character that you could hunt down and get revenge upon....or are they ganking on toss-outs they don't care about and only play for this one purpose? |

So which is it? Are people out there ganking on their main, or another well trained, often used character that you could hunt down and get revenge upon....or are they ganking on toss-outs they don't care about and only play for this one purpose? i did not say gank chars were barely used, nor not skilled. to use a throw-away BS to deal 12k alpha needs some training. i was merely saying that this tempest/apoc/...+ratting char will probably never fly out in shiny faction BS to do pve or sit in a hulk in belt mining. and if this char did so additionally having kill rights on him he would be braindead.
neither did i say i want them "to pay for what they have done". i just feel, even if possibly not hurting the criminals very much, it makes no sense to punish a victim or 3rd party hunter for trying to hunt down the pod and have fun. not everyhthing you do in eve is for isk, but also for fun. just leave concord out of it once one side decided to force pvp on the other side and the other side has responded to it. or the criminal has not yet paid for his sins (e.g. open bounty. see my suggestions #91)
especially as you point out, that there usually is not much to be gained by podding a criminal, there should not be much at stake for the criminal to loose, if OP proposal was implemented. thus i do not understand your harsh objections. check the moderated little ideas/10000 papercuts/low hanging fruit article! comment, bump(!) and like what you like: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Little_things_and_ideas_-_low_hanging_fruit_-_10000_papercuts |

Completely irrelevant. Has nothing to do with what i'm asking for.
It's about people shooting criminals, not about people seeking revenge. Please think your words through, before you post.
Myrdraeus Keaunt wrote:On the other hand, hearing the tears of those that got popped when they shot a flashy pod is quite laughable and would be sorely missed.
Makes no sense, or i'm misunderstanding your words. If the pod was flashy, the shooter wouldn't pop.
Theres way too much hatred in your words.
Vimsy Vortis wrote:I never go GCC and if I did I'd be able to get my pod out so +1 because of all the newbies I'll get to pod kill because they clicked the wrong button.
It doesn't help if you keep repeating this over and over again. You'll just get ignored.
---
It's funny to see how much can be talked about such a mechanic and how much people can screw the simple logic behind it and completely derail.
El alasar... i'm sorry, but i'm not reading your links in connection with this thread. Not that i disrespect your effort, but i don't see the need to derail myself from what i want. It's really simple already and the KISS principle totally applies to what i'm asking for.
That said, i WILL read your ideas and suggestions, because it sounds interesting, but i won't bring them up in here because you'll do that anyway and i will react accordingly.
So ...
Noobs are not really an argument. Gankers kill pods of noobs too. A smartbomb doesn't care who's in range.
Also, there's the danger of bans in starter systems for harrassing and canflipping noobs. That's sufficient there already, same can apply to their virgin pods that have GCC. Every noob that leaves the starter systems has to live with the additional risk either way.
We should not forget that being uneducated can never be an excuse for anything.
If a noob GCC's, he learns it the hard way. Just like in every other case too.
If he manages to have +4 implants in his head, then he's already old enough to have realized what's going on ... or he's so stupid that his loss doesn't matter, because he would have left rather sooner than later anyway.
Younger noobs, on the other hand, with +3 implants only, don't lose that much anyway and considering the fact that it's damn easy to make much money in a really short amount of time, i don't see any issues.

I just honestly don't think that this would have any significant effect on their behaviour because of how easy it is to warp pods out in an environment with no bubbles. It strikes me that the people who would get killed most often are people who aren't aware of the risks.

if you happened to know that there will be a pod soon, you could also try this (fire in right order of course)

if noobs get GCC then it is also ok if they get podded. that is part of learning what GCC means. they behaved bad. polite noobs dont get GCC first place, only people who like to loose their sec status for nothing will attack their ship or even pod them. and again, the clone is basically free. implants? well, their corp mates better explain them GCC first.... check the moderated little ideas/10000 papercuts/low hanging fruit article! comment, bump(!) and like what you like: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Little_things_and_ideas_-_low_hanging_fruit_-_10000_papercuts |

Heh. They wanted implants on the killboards. Let's give it to them. Pod popping does make a difference. Aye for popping red ganker pods. As far as bounties. Seems you'd have to make the trip to town to fill out the paperwork. Sorry. But...if others get kill rights on criminals, in the great tradition of the POSSE, one could pass along a nice gratuity without any great game mechanics alteration.
If it's a crime, it's a crime against sovereignty. As long as universal WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE isn't alive ingame, the sovereignty doo doo is doo doo.
Stations allowing criminals entry are aiding and abetting and therefore felons. Jump gates that allow passage are facilitating flight from prosecution and are obstructing justice, also a felony.

/Support Have you noticed how some ships are actually blue? Weird isn't it? |

That's actually a really good point. Now we have implants on pod killmails the next logical step is showing SP loss.

I Agree - Criminals should pay with their lives, not just their ships. (Especially since a nice set of implants may considered a part of the aggressive arsenal.)
Furthermore, there is absolutely NO reason CONCORD should be expected to spend time, resources and military assets responding to the defense of criminals, at the expense of the victims.
It erodes the Good Faith of the state. Not to mention, it is a collective waste of taxpayers had earned ISK and brings no profit to CONCORD of the Empires it serves.
Allow GCC criminals to be podded in Empire without response from CONCORD now! |

When a random miner or missioner gets blown up because they shot a canflipper or ninja they often think that the ninja is able to pod-kill them without being concorded so when the ninja/canflipper warps off leaving their pod floating in space they are surprised and chalk it up to some kind of e-honor or will become convinced that it is just not possible to shoot pods in highsec.
So when they get suicide ganked or are at war and pod-killing is completely normal they either assume that their pods cannot be shot or that people will refrain from shooting them because space bushido. |

What's really sad is how highsec dwellers think this is going to prevent ganks.
Let me lay out a few facts for you to peruse and abuse at your leisure:
1. Goons and other people who live in nullsec DGAF if you try to kill them. That's expected where they normally live.
2. Pods insta-warp. You aren't going to catch diddly-squat, not without allowing hictors and dictors.
3. Morons who live in highsec (funny how many of those there are) who lack a decent grasp of combat mechanics are going to get podded a lot more.
4. People who fight in nullsec aren't going to lose their pods in highsec while ganking people, because they have a decent idea of how to fly their ship.
5. We're still going to violence your boat until you cry tears of helpless rage.
This, like the Crucible expansion, is just another buff to gankers and boat-violencers, and isn't going to help the average pubbie. But we can leave it to said pubbie demand this kind of change. And frankly, I'm fine with it. |

If you want to add hyperbole to the logic, yes. I'm not going to sit here, and parse your logic for you. If you don't understand, and can't understand metaphor and how it applies in comparative logic, that's simply your problem. Not mine.

Death to pods!
This is a really bad idea.
But hey, maybe I can prove it later after I bait some idiots in mission systems into shooting me?
Consider this before protecting your macromining playerbase! Thanks! |

I never lost one in Amamake.
Why do you think that anyone who is not a goon is stupid? I see the word "pubbie" thrown around a lot too.
Once there was a country where people thought they were better than others simply by being in a certain group, and attached names for the "other" group that they considered inferior to them.
You'd think after the advent of gulags and gas chambers people would have fostered an aversion to such modes of thinking.
Meanwhile, if it's no problem, why are you here complaining?
There must be something more to this.

The real scary thing is that guy could potentially breed. Leading to more of him, then more and more and.. Oh gawd, ******* zombie apocalypse!

So, what you're saying is that you don't like the idea that if you blow up a defenseless ship, anyone in system can shoot your defenseless pod?

I don't know the exact mechanics but it's quite probable that if you shoot his pod he or his friends can come back legally in a sweet combat ship and wipe the belt clean The only warrior on this battlefield who isn't an alt.

That only works if you assume the defender in question is dumber that a Goon....
And while I admit to flying high, even i'm not spaced enough to fall for those tricks.... And I think your confused, this is not so much about protecting the miners, as it is about annoying Goons, that is the real fun in the game....

Actually, it's not. I must know, it's my thread. The goons had nothing to do with why i wanted this change to happen.
On the other hand, what you guys want to make of it, that's all yours for sure. Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

If you get the pod it should remove the concord response when they leave station in a ship. I mean, it was the other clone that committed the crime, right? Why should concord blast innocent clones? For all we know, someone put PCP in that clone's petri dish.
And yeah, standard combat aggression flags should apply. Shooting at a criminal allows them to shoot back in every other case, it should here as well. |
