Edited by: Crumplecorn on 16/06/2006 12:19:22 EveMON FTW. Being able to tell exactly how long it will take to train for any ship or item just by picking them from a list FTW. Suggesting training learning skills when you put in long plans FTW. Etc FTW.
The one thing I don't like about it is that it is Dot Nyet. Takes almost as long as Eve itself to start...... ---------- Throwing ships away doing stupid things since April '06 |

Id have to say eveMon, ECM/EMS I had been using for some time, but since i only use them for checking skills, (QuickFit for ship fittings) everything is allright.
Hell recently i found the mineral price index thingie and was really happy :)
on that note: is it bad my alt (4m sp) could train to a titan only 8 days slower than my main? (15m sp) Better attributes 4tw!
*doh, I broke my edited sig :/* *cries* this signature was lacking pink, I'll provide it for you. There. Looks better doesn't it? -Eris Fixed it for you. Oh, btw, yarr! ~kieron Didn't I tell you? The damsel moved in with me, we're having a great time. - Wrangler The damsel may not be distressed any more, but how many times does the informant have to be silenced before he gets the message? - Cortes

If you use ECM also use EMS and install to same directory. EMS downloads the character data reliably. ECM uses the data downloaded. Works fine. The downside is little to no updates, it could do with a bit more dev activity.
EVEMon, is sexy and is simpler to use than ECM/EMS. I find under heavy load it doesn't download the character data though so uses to cached data far too often. --Decairn

An 'export to server' function would be neat for EveMON. Otherwise it's lovely already.
Now recruiting!

EvEmon - It does what I want it to do - tells me when my characters are going to have skills run out... and lets me plan skill progression. It does it well. It's solid.
ECM/EMS - One day, in a galaxy far far away, EMS will have the same programming complexity as EvE itself, and also require an WTFBBQYARRRRDWARE Server cluster to run, and there will be an extension that will start my I.P. Based Coffee maker every time I have to get up early to switch a skill. But that day is not today - and I'm done waiting. If it ever melds vision with actualization there will be no comparison, but I have little faith in seeing that happen.

Evemon obviously. ECM was nice but is just buggy and awkward to use compared to it now.

Whilst I haven't used EVEMon, you could say that I am somewhat involved in ECM and EMS development
There is one thing I will say, people seem to be getting ECM and EMS confused as two seperate programs. While this is literally true, they are figuratively one and the same and can't be used seperately.
The reason behind this is that we (EVE-FFET) inherited EVE Character Manager (ECM) from Islay when he left EVE-Online. It is written in Delphi v7 and whist we have tried to fix what bugs we could, one very serious problem arose which caused the MyEVE XML to be shut down. We believe, we traced this back to the core DLL in Delphi that handles internet connectivity. This resulted in EVE Management Suite (EMS) which was originally designed to replace the download component of ECM.
However when we started designing EMS we wanted to design the replacement for ECM, EVE Map and Ship Fit. It is designed to be a central core of a group of Plug-in modules and in it's current state it does evactly what it's supposed to do (well almost).
The next phase is to develop the ECM replacement module, and as some of you may have seen, we've suffered a setback when one of our two programmers has since left EVE-FFET due to RL issues.
We've put a request out for helpers (both testers and developers), but we've not had much reponse, so we're just doing what we can with the resources we have (one very over stretched EzTarget).
Oh and before anyone says "well make it open source then", well we can't. When Islay handed over the code, part of the agreement was that we couldn't make it open source because of some of the code in the original ECM.
EVE Mon obviously has the advantage of currently active developers, which EVE-FFET hope to rectify in the near future, but good luck to anyone out there who wishes to make a community tool, even better if you wish to help EVE-FFET with ours
Hope that gives you some idea of what has and is happening with EVE-FFET.

ECM & EMS for me here. I didn't feel like subjecting myself to M$ .Net.
This signature is a tribute to the greatest signature of all time. It's not the greatest signature ever, it's just a... Tribute!! |
