Since I started in Eve just over a year ago, I've used the Eve Character Manager by FFE. It's been invaluable, and is a great tool.
But I just heard about EveMON, which from what I can tell is the same thing. And then there's the Eve Management Suite by FFE, which again from what I can tell is supposed to replace ECM. Although why I don't know. It seems like it does [i]less[/].
What do you use? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Is one better than the other? Or is it a question of personal preference? JForce The Arrow Project N.W.A Reprezent

I used EvEmon for the ships skill windows, they relly help build a good plan, and give a very accurate date and time for completion. -

I use EVEMon and love it, its great for planning my skills way in advance and the skill notification is just bloody genius. For me EVEMon is just 'nice' and does what its ment to do damn well.

The only thing I use from FFE is Shipfit. Awesome. But I LOVE EVEMon.

I stopped using ECM when I realized that more than 70% of the time it wouldn't update my skills, and would constantly say "Bad password".
EVEmon, on the other hand, rocks hardocore. Consistent character data updates, great item/ship/skill database and skill planning interface, learning skill suggestions, and skill display pane. Another thing I love about EVEmon is that it has the skill completion times down to the second. With ECM I had to set a "10 minutes before" alert or else I would log in and find the skill had been done for 8 minutes before ECM thought it was.

I can't get that crap to work. I installed it exactly as they said to on the FFE site, but it doesn't work. Plus, when I try to ask for help... they yell at me. I just stuck with EVEMon. It doesn't have the calender that ECM has, but I can pretty much live with that easily. Not to mention, EVEMon always updates. I usually have to shut ECM down because it gives me an Inavalid Login quite frequently. --- --- --- ---

Reasons I don't like ECM/EMS: Seems very buggy, not open-source, and not very user friendly, overly complicated when it needs to be simple to use.
Reasons I like EVEMon- simple to use, works for what I need it to work for, and is open source. Also the entire program seems superior to EMS.

I still like ECM due to its little bar along the bottom, helps in finding skills that will finish a certain time on a certain day. EVEMON is much harder to plan and complex to use compared.

I still use ECM because it's the only one with a signature builder tool :)
If EveMON ever gets a sig builder in the program though, I will switch in a heartbeat.

ECM/EMS is a trash program. Its never worked right despite being walked through in how to update my xml on the silly program. Im not going to do a dozen workaroudns to get a silly program to work.
EVEMON works great, its a little clunky (having to start a new skil plan to view the training schedule isnt intuitive) but it WORKS.
EVEMON is the way to go. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

I can always get ECM to work for me everytime...just need a little bit of patience. Its about a 50/50 chance that doing an automatic update will give you an "invalid login" error, but the remedy takes only 30 more seconds or so. Under the "EVE" dropdown file list, select "Force Safe Connect". Press the "Eve Insider" button. Wait for page to load. Click on "My Character". Wait for page to load. Click it again. Click on your character portrait. XML info will then be loaded. Close all windows. Close ECM. Open ECM. Done.
A pain? Sure. Tell the authors of EveMON to put in a sig builder and I'm sure nobody would use ECM anymore.

I can't tell you how glad I am this is NOT another thread on how someone thinks ECM should be fixed :)

As stated by many others, I kept getting invalid login messages with ECM.
Tried EveMon, and never had a problem. As long as the "my character" page is up and running, EveMon runs great.

I just got EVEmon, ive already gotten the control and mapped out a skill plan for getting capacitor for my MWD, t2 small neutrons, and drone interfacing 3
and little did I know spending 3 hours training a few more learning would take of 3 DAYS form my plan
from now on im just getting learning when it tells me to.
I had ECM, it never logged me in and updated. never. at all. grrr. I followed the instructions, and it didn't work. -------------- My ideas on balancing nosferatu |

Both have their strong points, although the ECM updating thing is starting to get annoying. I use both btw, for different things. especially like all the info sheets etc. you can get out of ecm

EvEMon - looks good and is easy to install and use.
ECM I always ended up having problems with. Random error messages and bugs.
So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong and to strike at what is weak. |

hey hey
ived used ECM for a long time and it does exactly what it says on the tin :) The GUI is very user friendly and the safe connect makes me feel all warm and cuddly inside. its instant look approach to skill queing is great.
tried EveMON recently and i cant actually see the attraction of it. Regardless of the aledged security of it you should never give out details to a 3rd party program. and while its very well designed i find it lacks the instant look and feel of ECM.
I tried the EMD but its very very very overly complicated but its truly 1 spreadsheet to rule them all.
ECM wins it for me and i tend to use it everynow and again to plan ahead with my skills

EVEMon, because it tells me that at 8:19:12pm on Tuesday night I'll have Scout Drone Operation 5 finished.
It also allows you to watch multiple characters at once, and the plan allows me to train my alt so much as I can before my account time on him runs out.
I love it, use it all the time. Brilliant program.

Edited by: Sylaan on 16/06/2006 11:14:21 I have used ECM/EMS until couple of days ago. It worked fine, no clue what people are doing. You have to use EMS to retrieve the XML data from Eve-O, not ECM itself. There are guides on their website how to do this. The best thing I like with ECM is the nice export functions, especially upload to an FTP server. EveMON lacks this but I do recall Six Anari mentionting that this is on the list of to-do things.
That being said, I have switched to EveMON. Beautiful piece of software, "just works", no bloat, clean interface, actively developed (unlike ECM/EMS).

ECM/EMS is very buggy imo and it doesnt look like they are going to fix it. EveMon seems more lightweight and is constantly updated, has the same features and so on.
I use QuickFit for shipfittings.
