I think it would be a good idea to have large flak cannons that do damage to a wide area. Flask cannons would have a large damage radius but have reduced damage from other guns. They could be useful for defending from small ships that you wouldnt normally be able to hit.

Why not just put a smaller gun on there? It's got reduced damage, and hits smaller ships.
Maybe some kind of flak ammo would be more useful, but it takes away the ability of smaller ships to be useful in fights against larger ships. All the arguments against nos can be applied to flak cannons.

Well smaller guns just dont work, a frig can hav t2 guns and can hit and will hit 90% of the time from 10-12km out. While even if a bs is using the same gun it will take longer to track the frig and the frig will be harder to hit. It is extremely unrealistic that a small ship can take down a big ship, such is the same with using large turrets vs small ships, they cant hit because a frig would die in 1 or 2 hits. A flak cannon would be a weapon that would have extremely good accuracy, but have reduced damage. And it could be ade so they are virtually useless aginst larger ships.

Really? I don't think that battleships have tracking penalties on frigate-class weapons. Strap a 125mm Railgun on a Merlin or a Raven, the tracking speed is the same. The Merlin gets a range and damage bonus, but the Raven doesn't suffer any penalties.
Using frigate-class weapons on larger ships is a perfectly valid way to kill little ships with big ships.

Actually you are wrong... the transversal doesnt apply to the orbiting ship because it is turning as it moves around the taget thereby always keeping the same facing to that ship(so the turret is always pointing at the target without having to move much if at all). theres another speed measurement on the overview for the orbiters transversal but i forget what it is. so yes using small weapons on a BS to hit a fast orbiting frigate still is at a disadvantage.... just use missiles... the only guarenteed hit and the reason i ditched gallente after discovering the brutix has nothing on the ferox (and the brutix kept getting owned by inty's) |
