I recently had the very uncomfortable experience of warping through a gate to find a warp bubble and lots of players wating to gank someone.
Yes, yes of course I should have scouted first and yes I should not have drunk a bottle of red wine before heading into 0.0 space, I was very silly yes. That said I could afford to loose what I did so it wasn't all that bad.
My question is, what are my options, if any? assuming I've voted against dieing.
Some facts; I was in a scorp, 10K shields, built for scrambling. I was podded inside 5 seconds of being engaged, just as my cloak switched off.
Thanks Blood

Target the nearest warp scrambler align to warp and hope the flip that they can't destroy you before you destroy the scrambler.
Otherwise, you are screwed. --------------

There is a way that makes it possible to survive in some cases, but it's metagaming and way beyond lame so I'm not gonna tell you how.
The only reliable way is a scout. The smartbomb idea only works if the targets are close enough, and you're likely to lose your ship before aligning anyway.

Well, on the bubble generator maybe. It's happened to me a few times, just fly fast toward the most aligned celestial and mash warp. Works for me but I tend to fly fast ships and in all cases the campers were in ranged BS with no inty tacklers.

Edited by: CreatorOfLife on 17/06/2006 09:35:19 If you came through the gate, and on the other side are just tons and tons of ships and you are inside a bubble and its obvious you have no hope, why not try to negotiate with them? If you can pinpoint their leader and he has strong command over them, it might be possible to convince him you are worth more alive than dead.
Many people will not take you up on this, however, since they are starved for kills and seeing an explosion is worth more to them than 30 million isk. (Often due to vicious kill mail competitions)
Also, current EVE social rules for some reason dictate "It is more honorable to kill everyone you see, whether they have offended you in the past or not, than to allow peoples lives to be spared if they pay a fee."
That is why you find tons of alliances who kill everyone who is not specifically their freind, even if it is far, far from their actual claimed systems, yet have a rule "No pirating!!!@221!!@!"
Seems a bit hypocritical. No accepting tolls, but you can murder anyone if you want.

Well I'm going to say how to get out of it.
Logoff.
Your ship will not warp off, but will dissapear within about 20 seconds. If they can kill you in this time then you will be dead. If not when you log back on you will be 1mill km from the gate safe and sound.
The new game mechanics state that if you logoff or loose connection from EVE BEFOREyou are agressed then you simply dissapear.
The reason I have stated this here and now, is that if more and more people will start doing it, therefore more people will whine on the forums and CCP will hopefully change it back.
Too many people are currently doing it and there are not enough whining about it, so it will never get fixed.
It's lame, just lame.

If you are not travelling in a combat setup a cloak might have saved you. It gives you that extra time to zoom out and see how far the bubble extends and at what direction you ll be out fastest. Of course in a Scorp its not easy, but doable it is.

Best way to get out of jumping into a bubble camp is to just burn it back to the gate. If you've got an MWD on it's only 11km that you spawn from the gate when you jump in so it's often quite doable.

Back to the gate is best option, or maybe move out of scramble range and nos/kill cepters scrambling you.
Bit annoying that there's so many people scouting with alts every jump they do. Totally removing the fun and unexpected in EvE. Gate camp? Fair enough to scout. But every jump u do...common.

I agree, it's very lame and it's a tactic we're seeing more and more. We're not seeing it so much with ships but people are logging to stop their pod's being killed by interdiction spheres etc. It is something CCP need to address.

best advice is to hope u land near the damage dealers with NOS and ECM
point your ship away from bubble and NOS the toughest ship in the gang and cycle your ECM between ships right before u warp to safe or planet and then warp around for a bit then log |

If you are in a fast ship you got a good chance. Wait for 20 sec (needs strong nerves) and MWD back to the gate and jump out.
You may want to write .i.. in local befor you hit the jump button.

A. If you're in a battleship you're not going to get away. B. If you dont have a scout and you're in a battleship, you're not going to get away. C. I have gotten out of tons of bubbles, i set my nav point to the system i'm headed to and in mid warp i activate auto-pilot. What happens is my ship immediately turns around and heads towards the gate, and when i am within range my ship automatically jumps. no mashing of anything or freaking out. Its harder if its an interdictor bubble, but i've gotten way from those too. But i fly inty and we all know what inties can do. D. If you emerge in a system and there is an interdictor bubble, turn on your autopilot and your mwd/afb. As soon as your out of range of the bubble you will automatically warp off. Autopilot will not work within 20k of a bubble obviously, so get out of range and then hit the button. E. Dont try to negotiate, it only makes you look stupid as they're not there to negotiate, they are there to take your stuff, not make friends. When i camp a gate the only thing i say is "GF have a nice ride home." I hope this helps.

I just jumped into a bubble. I turned around, hit the mwd, and was able to make it back to the gate before they were through my armor.
Once I got there though, the lag caused by 10 or so ships all firing missiles prevented me from being able to jump back. Lost the ship and pod within jump range fo the gate
In retrospect, I probably could have mwd'd out of the bubble and continued on my way if I had tried that.

Wait for Kail (or beyond?) for CCP to dramatically increase ship hitpoints or do something equally necessary to prolong combat. A scorp being vaporized in 5 seconds happens all the time...and it shouldn't. In my view it's the most important problem with the game right now.

PErsonally i am ont he other side... big blobs that set up warp bubbles are the TRULY lame thing in this game. I would love for CCP to fix that instead. The fact you can log off to save your ass imho is a nice counter to an otherwise assured and almost instant death, but a bunch of gutless protal camping lamers.

Logging off to save your sorry excuse for a ship is the lamest thing you can do in this or any other game. The reason there are gates in this game and we can all just jump from anywhere in system to anywhere else in the next system is to create choke points. Strategic areas that traffic must go through.
If there is a camp ahead:
1) Gang up with friends. 2) Run the gauntlet and see how good you really are. 3) Avoid it entirely.
But logging out the moment you are in danger. "Winning the game by not playing the game." has to be the lamest, weakest most gutless and unsportsmanlike thing you could ever do.
The pirates you are insulting by having a gate camp setup have already displayed more teamwork, more gamesmanship and more organisation than your precious log-out tactics.
Yes, I feel strongly about people logging in combat. Very strongly.

Yes but what is happening is they log off while they are still cloaked after jumping in this is a very un-cool tactic that works well most of the time.

Thanks I'll take that as a compliment.
As many replies have already suggested - to jump into a hostile gatecamp (at least whilst flying a battleship) means almost certain death. Sure there are a few things you can try and you might get lucky.
I've been in similar situations with the same inevitable outcome. Sometimes I do get lucky and escape with my pod intact. Otherwise its a free ride back to the cloning station. At least I die laughing

A gate camp with a bubble is a virtual "I Win" button for the campers.
Logging out while still cloaked is a virtual "I Get Away" button for the pilot caught by the camp. But it's considered dishonorable to escape that way.
What I really dislike is that while I'm being blown to bits because I'm playing with "honor", I can't help but wonder if the brigands ganking me would also do the "honorable" thing if the situation were reversed.
Often, I doubt it.
Eve is not designed with honor in mind.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. Merlin with MWD, I made it to the gate with armour intact as the gank squad in question was occupied with multiple other 'juicier' targets. I thought 'it's just a merlin, it's insured, lets see if it can be done' and jumped to the gate, hit the bubble, MWD to the gate... AP would not jump, I could not force the jump.. ship blew up, then tried the same with my pod, autopilot failed, manual warp failed...
Free ride to back to the clone bay/station... saved me 18 jumps and I never use implants (yes with my main, I have no alts... yet) so no real loss but I learned that lag is the real killer in the Blob scenerio.
Logging off: Dishonorable, I will not do it. Poor planning on my part that creates a gift for the gank squad who did plan thier part means I deserve what I get and I should go down with a fight and my honor intact.
It is all part of the game. If you do not like it or some part of it, do not play it or avoid the part you do not like. This is why I do not do any mining and I am happy it is not required.
No one is forcing you to jump blind through a gate. The map is your friend.

Yup.. i have to admit though, it really annoys me to lose a ship to game failure rather than player failure.
I don't mind losing my ship because I just screwed up, but when I *made it*. Next time I'll try to power through the bubble and warp. We'll see how that goes.

Its not game mechanic failure really - its session change which is something that everyone should be aware of.
As your ship is blown up, for 30 seconds you cannot dock or use gates with your pod. The only way out with a pod is to warp away is a good rule.
Also jumping into a system i think constitutes session change, so once again from time of arrival you have to wait 30 secs before using a gate.
In terms of escaping from a bubble, the most important thing you can do is to use the time you are cloaked to work out the best chance you have. Depending on how you've landed in the bubble and what ships are surrounding you - you options will be different. Take every cloaked second to figure out your most likely avenue of escape, then cross fingers and go for it. Not always going to work, but at least you can feel as if you participated :)
