You may also be able to rep them without becoming a legal target to their war targets, but I'm not sure.
Hope someone can clarify. Cara? |

Always.
Limited engagement timer happens when someone shoots you (allowing you to shoot back)... which anyone can as you will be a "Suspect" for remote repairing someone in an engagement of their own. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

The mechanics are a little different for war targets vs. other forms of engagement, since no limited engagement timer is created for pilots at war (since they can legally shoot each other already).
The result is the same though. In addition to inheriting any flags of the person you are repping (repping a suspect will make you suspect), repping someone in a limited engagment and repping a non-corpmate war target with a capsuleer log-off timer will both earn you a suspect flag of your own.

At least that's my understanding www.ensignyooch.wordpress.com

Honestly, just leave your safeties on green to prevent yourselves from losing something expensive to byzantine game mechanics. |

This. But what Cara said is correct. Tengu Grib > I agree. The distinct lack of quality spaceships makes RL the worst space sim ever. SolidX > i'm an alt IRL Guilty conscience? Buy a mining permit today. www.minerbumping.com |

Hope someone can clarify. Cara? As long as your non-corp-mate friend, who is under war, has no PvP timer up, you can rep him just fine, nor will you become a legal target for his opponent for repping him. However, if your friend gets shot at by his opponent and receives a PvP flag, your repairers will automatically stop and you will no longer be able to rep him, provided you have set your safety to green. Only when you decide to turn your safety off and continue repping your (now under war AND PvP flagged) friend will you receive a suspect flag, thus making yourself a legal target for anybody.
Or, at least that is my understanding according to this post: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2212793#post2212793
