I found it a little odd considering CCP's stance on selling in-game goods for real-world money. I'm assuming (hoping?) that CCP's marketing people don't know the site is owned by IGE.

A retard would have the sence to look up who owns a site before advertising on it nevermind a marketing dept.

Uh ? Thottbot was initially owned by ... Thott a famous EverQuest player, leader of the guild Afterlife, they were anything but gold farmers.

Seems you were right and wrong,
"The original Thottbot was a news aggregator created by Aftathott, founder of Everquest uberguild Afterlife. Its purpose was to comb various video game websites for news and information on a number of MMORPGs with a focus on Everquest. Though the primary site is now used for the World of Warcraft database, the news aggregator still exists as a sister site." - wikipedia
Anyway the fact remains IGE own it and recieve all the revenue from advertising on its site, meaning CCP are paying IGE money...
o Kieron where art thou?

To be fair, I think IGE tries to obfuscate the fact that they own their gaming sites by using a holding company. I believe thottbot is/was owned by the Ogaming network, which in turn is owned by IGE. I doubt they try to inform a potential advertising client about who owns what.
Also, I just went to Ogaming.com, and low and behold they are running EVE adds there too.
I can certainly see how someone in a marketing dept might fail to do enough background research to see that IGE owns these sites.
Some good background info about IGE in case anyone wants to know.
