Edit: probably not a good idea to include the link. Check it out yourself if you want to see where CCP's advertising money is going...
Interesting ... so maybe they're trying to bump up EVE's playerbase so they have a larger market? _______________________________________________

Not sure of the details, but iirc, someone from CCP mentioned once that EVE is like dby microsoft because it's so Dx heavy/dependant.

What has the owning company got to do with it, it doesnt change the facilities and differences there are between the sites...
Its like saying Skittles and m&ms are owned by the same company so they're the same...

No discontinuity or contradiction involved.
CCP directly support and encourage ISK buying & selling by allowing GTC sales for isk. Really, they should just be honest about it and start selling ISK and ships directly int he EVE store

Not really. By allowing people to sell GTCs for ISK they immediately give ISK an out-of-game value. Once you say your ingame currency has real worth, then it's all downhill from there. |

Edited by: Maya Rkell on 18/06/2006 16:53:52 Why?
You can't use generalisations for that sort of thing, if you think there's a problem, PROVE it.
Allowing Ebaying does not necessarily wreck the economy (Ultima Online). Not allowing Ebaying does not necessarily save the economy (Asheron's Call).
What CCP are selling is GAME TIME, precisely what they sell to everybody who plays, and furthermore it is in NO way inflationary. There is a vast jump from that to selling items directly which IS inflationary.
That ISN'T EVEN THE ISSUE.
The issue is the DIRECT selling of ISK for cash, and CCP are advertising on an IGE site. THAT is the issue. It's an entirely different one.
Every MMO currency, like it or not, has an OOG value. Like it or not, some people will do transactions with it. What CCP have done is CRUSH the value of those transactions with GTC's, without inflating the Eve economy. This is quite litterally unprecidented, and IGE can't be happy. So why...

Actually, both of those are owned by IGE now.
Thottbot has always been owned by IGE.com, it used to be a private tool supplied with information and used by gold farmers to help them level as fast as possible and also to make the most gold/hr at lvl60. As for allakhazam I dont know, but IGE owns a number of the most popular fansites for Lineage2 and WoW and freely advertises it services on them. Cant really stop them, they pull in tens of millions in profit a year, soon all game sites will be IGE's *****es (except the official sites ofc).

Going off topic, but at least GTC sales don't give player IRL money, only game time. Getting RL money for it opens for most abuse. New sig coming soonÖ Tuxford's good for EVE. |
