Some people just don't think things through You really, honestly believe a new server will solve your "problems"? And FYI there are many newish characters making their way up the political ladder everywhere. But guess what, they aren't whining about how it's OMG so hard... They are outthere doing their thing.
Do you think people that are "in power" or "famous" or whatever, are that just because they are old? No, it's through their actions and attitude in daily eve activities that got them riches, respect, minions or whatever...
You people that see everything as an excuse to fail would just get over run by those with a "can do" attitude anyway (quote someone earlier in the thread, can't be bothered browsing back), on the supposed new server. And then what?

I'm going to summarize what I would do on a new cluster.
I would train my skills to get battleship immediately (I'm a miner right now), grind 0.0 to keep my ISK up since there's absolutely no threats there. Then I'd join a corp. Not just any corp mind you, I'd join a corp run by the vets coming over from the old TQ server. We'd form an alliance. We would know exactly what to do and where all the best stuff is anyway, since re-modelling 0.0 would be a huge amount of work. We'd go establish ourselves in the old and current BoB space, and aggressively grind complexes while the miners stripped Arkarnor or over. Fast forward 1 year, and we would control even more of 0.0 since we know exactly where to go, we would not be afraid of it, and we would just put POS everywhere we could since it's going to be at least another year till a single dreadnaught shows up in the game, and we'll be so rich and powerful by then that most of them belong to us.
Can you see now why a new shard wouldn't help the likes of you anyway?
I am a miner in my current char. I became a miner because it was blindingly obvious people wanted them. Because it was obvious that to get power and influence, I needed to be useful to somebody in the world. That the best strategy for conquest would be to join an existing alliance (done that now) and work as a team with others - plan things long term, big operations, crushing blows, that sort of thing.
You on the other hand...you want personal glory, instant gratification and are hoping that somehow you'll get it without others. Your posts have not mentioned corps working together in any serious way, nor working within any alliances in any serious way (there are a TON of smaller alliances that you can't see on those maps, and EC-P8R, TRUST etc. - if all that jazz isn't just shear unadulterated awesome then I don't know what is).
Once again, I joined in Jan. 2006, and couldn't be more happy that I joined then and not sooner.

mwhahaha ... why??
should NPCs be the driving power of an MMOG?
and regarding the "allready secured" regions - do you really expect that this is static now?? only a few months ago Branch and Venal were PA, Tenal was NBSI, Tribute was FE. and look now at the map - all those mentioned entities aren't anymore. yeah - now there are others ... but what keeps you away from beeing one of the others?
if you want to become the new leader of an big alliance/empire - it doesn't matter how many skillpoints you have (you won't even need skills for the creation - as others can create the alliance and you become leader) ... only thing that matters are your reallife leadership skills. all those organization, all those diplomatic talks, all those leading people needs skills - but not those you can meassure in skillpoints.
and tbh - someone who isn't able to lead people now, won't be able to lead people on the new server. ___________________

eve wont die out cos of the big alliances, where do you think they get there members from? the vets are scattered around in inumerable numbers of corps, small big etc. its not like one corp has every player from 03 screwing the noobs.
And why do you think average age of EVE player is 7 months? Because somewhere after that time they run into the "cap" formed by large alliances. It's not vets. It's not SP. It's not in the end even ISK. It's the fact that there is no longer space for new organisations to expand.
"Kick out other organisation". Yeah, that is a possibility. so little alliances/corps fight one another for scraps while big ones remain relatively static.
THAT is the problem. Big ones controlling too much. Has someone calculated how large part of 0.0 space is claimed/controlled by for example 3-4 largest alliances?
And that territory is rather jealously guarded making contents of that area out of access for others. Yes, I admit I would do that myself but that does not prevent me from understanding that at some point such situation will turn counterproductive. And that point is when playerbase will grow larger and larger but territory is still held to large amount by these relatively few organisations.
In regards to idea that old alliances could easily dominate another server. Problem comes in lack of time. You can't pull out organisation from nothing. It takes time. Time spent on one server is out from another one. You can rule large area in one, large area in another or small areas in both. Pulling out stunt where you dominate large areas on multiple servers is rather unrealistic.
And for the record, I do NOT want to lead alliance. Not big, not small. But neither I like being forced to being member of one or limited to leftovers.

The initial post was about 1-2 month players, I can confirm those stats by my experiences but I don't know how that scale with the big picture.

Originally by: Zamila I know this is an old topic but it has come back from some comments of my old mmorpg friends. Last month I reactivated my old account to have a look to see what the old game was like. Well here is my impresions
1) PVP still in good force 2) Mission running vastly improved 3) Production in T1 is very cut throat in hi volume areas 4) T2 production seems to be cornered by a few people who were lucky to win or rich enough to buy the few good selling BPO's 5) Still to many chock points leading to 0.0 space 6) Pirates in high sec space,
adds more risk 7) NPC market still needs work, still to stactic 8) NPC pirates very stactic still, need more variation in the different sector belts 9) Mining much better
There is a few more points but I get to the biggest one..
I asked my mate if he would reactivate his old account but he said 'I would but its to late now' What do you mean ? 'Well its all been done' Like what I said here were his points..
1) Most of the T2 is out and I not rich enough to catch up if I want to buy the BPO's 2) Alot of the old 0.0 corps wont except players new players 3) 0.0 map is well fixed and layed out by current corps 4) skill points gaps are to great now 5) I feel Im to far behind to catch up
Umm so what do you need to start playing again then? well his answer is.. A new server where every one is on equal footing again and everything is to be reforged and discovered again in a new world.
So Im sure this has beem discussed inside the eve devs offices too. Is it time for a new western eve server?
Tranquility is years old now. and has it got to the point that its age and maturity is stopping new and old players from staying?
And would you play on a new server where.. 1) It is all 'out there' to win again. 2) New chars to make 3) Rectifly your old mistakes. 4) New world to forge
I am sure alot of others will like the 'new world' game. and perhaps more players will return to the game if they feel that they are not to far behind everyone else.
No.

Nope. I actually enjoy the social aspect of the game. What I honestly think is that many of the alliances are getting too BIG.
I think I at some point saw map of Eve 0.0 how it is claimed by different alliances, does anyone know link to current one? Or have that percentage of 0.0 controlled by largest groups?

thats a very sweeping judgement on why people leave after 7 months. theres plenty of space. Problem is you dont want to take it, you want it given to you. shame on you.

Op wants somthing handed to him/her...in a roundabout means of saying it for sure.
You wants lots of isk? On the left under Eve support..."Eve-Store" Buy three to four GTC and then sell them in the "WTS forums" There you go, now have lots of isk, you can buy that tech II BPO. You can fly that big ship...You can be a "Twink" again....
This is as bad as it can get, but don't bet on it. |

My 2 isk...
The China shard (or whatever you name it) was very hard to stomach, but an another shard accessible alternatively to Tranquility would definitely be the end of my subscription for reasons stated countless times by me and others...

Given? I really fail to see how people can say that people like me, who might be interested in fresh server would want everything GIVEN to them.
That is same as saying that all those who now have stuff were GIVEN everything. If anything fresh shard would LACK everything. No piles of BPO:s stored, no set territories.
And above all else, no big alliances out there trying to block everyone.
I fail to see how new shard indeed would take anything away from you people who enjoy Tranquility so greatly. It's not like Tranquility would be taken away if CCP did one day decide to have another shard for people to expand to. But of course it WOULD give people opportunity to start elsewhere. Would it mean that amount of little workers and poddable people for "great" gatecampers would be reduced? Yeah. Would it mean that you can't have size of your virtual member increased by bragging how many people you can keep out of "your" space? Yeah. Would all that be necessarily bad? No.

If you created a new shard then a large number of the players on TQ would start new characters on it.
Population of TQ drops significantly Overall number of subscriptions doesn't increase but the amount of hardware CCP have to pay for/admin/fix doubles.
Result? TQ underpopulated, new shard underpopulated, CCP profit reduced massively.
This all makes sense how?

like dude, can you not understand what were saying? it would not make a difference. people would still get podded, the people that can do will do, the people that need a level playing field to do anything will still be left behind.
the territories will be set straight away, all you'll get is a huge resource / land grab because we all know where to go and what to do.

If this is such a big deal in EVE, your friend better just pop off and die then because:
1) Most all the really cool stuff has been invented and he won't be rich enough to buy a patent for anything nifty. 2) All the old, big Corps won't just accept anyone, you need some education to prove you are an asset. 3) The world is pretty well fixed and layed out by the current countries. 4) Everyone who lived before has learned and done so much, there's no point in trying to learn or do anything else. 5) He has no chance to learn everything before you die, so may as well do it now and get it over with.

I didn't pay for over a year's subscription in order to have all my hard work and SP go to waste. If you want 0.0 space, go out there and either pay for it or fight for it - if you want to get T2 BPOs, work for them via research agents or buy them with isk you make.
You are wanting everything given to you because in a new server, while you'll have to work for these things, there will be no established competition to get in your way.

1-st of all, the 2-nd server issue is purely theoretical. It will never be created, so most of you, opposing it, may relax a bit. RL comparisons made here about RL corps and education are so bizarr that I don't think they deserve a serious answer. You aren't chosing whether to be born into this world or not, you are born and you try to succeed. Comparing it to a video game where you PAY your monthly fee is noncence.
Despite all the seemingly changing face of Eve, there are the same ppl who are changing things. Yes, they may lose space, then gain space, then lose it again, but it's the same "old guard" that does it.
Really interesting why many ppl leave after 7 months. You know, 7 months is enough to look at Eve differently, beyond flashy explosions and loads of virtual money. It's enough time to see the full picture. And the full picture is - you'll hit a glass wall. You can see whats beyond, but you also know that it's not for you.
To those who are calling me to try harder, look at the recent history. May be I'll try harder. What will happen? If I fail, I fail. If I will have some lvl of success, I may end fighting for a useless system against another unknown group. If I succeed to some reasonable lvl, I'll get a fleet of 300bs's and 50 dreads in my face and fail again. So, why to try this if the outcome is a lose-lose situation. Right now, I reached that glass wall and there's very little things in Eve that are left for me. Even in ships, I can fly HAC's but I won't use them in PvP, because losing one would mean weeks of grinding to replenish the ISK. I can train for capital ships, but why do this if I'll never get to fly one of them.
There is a cap in this game. Not skill points cap, not ISK cap, call it development cap, but it's as real as any other cap in any other MMORPG.

Ofc it is.
A person with 10k SP and oodles of RL charisma may walk into this game and turn it upside-down.
If you want power in this game that way it is through the force of your personality and vision, not ISK or SP.
