I've spent a lot of ISK for my corporation so far, and now I want to spend even more to give it the final polish.
I'm looking for a signature for my corporation, and I ask all talented signature designers to compete for one of these prices:
1. Price 70mil ISK 2. Price 20mil ISK 3. Price 10mil ISK
Here is what you have to work with:
The corporations name "Virtual Life Vanguard"
The corporations slogan "we live in cyberspace"
The players portrait as found on our Website
The players name
The players rank badges as found on our Website
The players rank title as found on our Website
The players award ribbons as found on our Website ...and yes, you can resize the graphics!
Here is what I want to have it look like:
I would like to have the corporation's stance, philosophy, mood or however you want to call it somehow reflected in the signature. Please klick on the present signature below to enter the corporations homepage and visit especially the pages "home" "rules" and "applications" to understand what we are about. I tried to create a graphics around this and came up with this picture. Try something better, please, and it should be friendly, peaceful, even slightly humoreous, not disturbing but comfortable to look at.
And here comes the challenge:
Since it will be a corporate signature for all present and future members, I need to be able to change the changeables by myself - with my limited means and knowledge about graphics creation. I have two programs I can barely use, Open Office 2.0 Draw, and Ulead Photoimpact 8SE. However, I created the present signature, the picture as a mentioned above and all the rank badges with that, so some minor knowledge is available.
So I need a signature, where I can replace the portraits, names, rank badges, ranks and award ribbons by myself. I'm able to resize, to combine and to use the effects the program offers, but I would need to learn what to do to reproduce your design. So I mainly would need a bare signature with the corporate name and slogan, where I could add the other things to without to much effort, since ranks and awards can change a lot, and new people are steadily arriving.
... and all the rest
Please try your best and deliver within the next two weeks. In case I will not use any of your proposals (and not slightly changed as well), I will hand out 10mil ISK to the three contributers whose work I liked most.
Should you have any questions, please ask them in this thread, that all can profit from the answers, and thus increase the quality of the contributions!
Please post your proposals (or the links) in this thread, and stick to the size limits!

I would enter but unfortunatly I use photoshop, and making a signature that you can change would be very difficult.

To be kinda blunt 10 Mill for creating a template for a corp - and making it user friendly to your exact specifications with 2 programs that no respective graphic designer would use - with so many specifications - is seriously not worth the time.
But thats only my opinion. The time spent = not worth the isk :/ - unless you find somebody who would rather make sigs than play eve.

here's a demo page I came up with for a corp signature template. There are six different background colors that can be used for the sigs, and of course these can be changed or the background image can be altered if you prefer.
I am not familiar with either of the programs you use for image editing, but you should be able to cut and paste portraits, ranks and medals in as needed. I have two files with the rank insignia and medals in the proper size, so you can cut and paste them into the signature directly. If you have the ability to add text, you can place the member's name and title in the black band at center. I used arial for that as it is a standard font.
Let me know what you think. --------------

Thank you Exekias! You got the mission exactly like I meant it . And yes, I can copy and paste. You may take a look at Open Office Draw 2.0 if you would like, it is free, to see what one can do with that, just download the actual version of Open Office from openoffice.org. You can then throw away your MS Office suite as well .
Please try the following changes:
With my program I can add frame effects to the pictures and thus make the borderlines vanish and somewhat mend the picture into the background. I would like to try that with our portraits.
I like the corporate's flag, but not that much that I would want to have it on the signature.
The background is by far to "noisy" and turbulent to my liking. I like the idea with the different colours, though, I could add different colours to the different wings of the corporation, that's good!
I'm not sure what to do with the boxes where you display the ribbons in atm. I personally can wear only three of them at this time, all the others have less. In principle I like this boxes, I just want to avoid white spaces for not filled ribbon slots...
While I like the fonts you used for the name and title, I'm not that sure about the one you used for the corp name and slogan. Would it be possible that experiment a bit with other fonts? On the other hand, I just could create text myself and paste it into the background. What leads me to the last point:
Could you please provide me a blank background when you have your next version ready, that I can try whether I can actually work with that myself?
Thank you a lot again!

Edited by: Exekias on 22/06/2006 17:25:14 I made the changes you requested and updated them to the original page here. Hit refresh to see the new samples.
changes: -I put in a new, less "busy" background in 7 different colors with an accent border. I can vary the color of the border separately from the background if you like, as you can see in the bottom right of the new samples.
-The rank badge was moved to the left and is kept in the same size as your website. It should be a straight cut and paste into the signatures. The member name and title were also moved and aligned left.
-The "boxes" where you add the medals are now more integrated into the overall background design. If there are no or even a few medals in them, it should look fine. There are small guidemarks in a column at the center of each box for alignment of the medals.
-The corp logo is smaller and was also integrated into the background.
-I have added a blank template for you to play with. The empty boxes you see are guidelines and you can paste right over them or paste into them as you see fit. They are there to help you get all the elements in the same place on each sig.
-The corpname and slogan are in a different font and the color now varies with the background. I removed the transparency around the text in this area, since I am not sure you will be able to preserve it when making sigs from a template with the programs you use.
Let me know what you think of the changes. --------------

Hi Exekias, thanks again for your work. You got the idea, but I'm still not really happy with the outcome. I made signatures with the means I have on hand to show you what I'm thinking about:
Headoffice Marketing Production Resources Security
One colour per division, and black for those who aren't in a division.
When looking at this, I think you get the idea. I only would need something nice for the backgrounds, probably even a different background per division, as long as it is something in 400x120 pixels what I can copy and paste.
However, when you have ideas how to display other details of the signature more professionally, please show!
All the, others, show me what you can do! Even I can produce something, so for the professionals that should be cakewalk!

Thanks for joining in, Liu!
I started this nearly one week ago and mentioned in my OP that I'm giving 2 weeks to the contesters to come up with proposals. So right now it is one more week until coming saturday, but when someone urgently needs a couple more days then that, that shouldn't be a problem.

And ( No I didn't read the entire thread :) ) do you require the template in PSD form for your future personal use to add members, or do you require me to make each sig for every one of your members... I might be interested in jumping in :)
Edit: Ok I read it... and like someone else said... making a sig that you can change without photoshop is pretty much not likely to happen by many sig makers :P And, no offense, but those ranks are ugly as hell :P
Meh Idea

Hi Justus, great that want to jump in!
Yes, I can create transparancies in gifs, but I do not know whether I can do some sophisticated manipulations which involves more then just the use of a gif. My present signature as below for instance is a gif with transparancies I made myself.
I need the template in jpg, gif, png or any other non proprierity (spelling?) graphics format. I more or less would only copy and paste portraits, names, titles, badges and ribbons onto it.
Originally by: Justus Imperius And, no offense, but those ranks are ugly as hell :P
Propose something better! When you study the rank structure (and you would need to thouroughly do that to understand it), you will find that there is a theoretical need for more then 100 different rank badges. The badges are composed out of vertical bars, horizontal stripes, and silvery stars on a blue background. I just copy and paste bars, stripes and stars onto the background as needed for a badge. So if you can deliver better looking components I could use for that, I would be more then happy!

Wow... didn't realize that Juwi has eyes like the young Sean Connory ... Thanks, Jatonix!
I like the use of the portrait a lot, however, I have no idea how I could exchange that against other portraits - and the rank badge and ribbons are missing as well...

The way the portraits are looking on your example is really stunning, I like that a lot!
However, I'm afraid that I cannot use your work, since I won't be able to customize the signatures in every case when a new member joins, or a member gets promoted or an award - and there will be lots of promotions and awards.
Additionally, although I like the monochrome tone, I have the feeling that the rank badges (and probably the ribbons as well, when I could see some) are just to toned down. I regard them as quite important and would like to see them a bit more prominently.

Just get yourself Photoshop, templates in Photoshop are very easy. You can just drag the portrait you want into it and replace the old one, making a signature template WAY easier. ---

And no, I won't buy Photoshop. I never was in computer graphics and still can not justify that money for something I'm not really interested in.
