I don't think lasers are too strong.. if they are it's just slightly so. I think stacking damage mods, is the real evil.. combined with the already insanely high damage mod and not so terrible ROF on tachyons, they are pretty imbalanced, to a degree.
A guy using tachs in my corp wrecks for a little more than half what I do with 1400m. My RoF is twice his with a tach. If we play the range game I can outrange a Tachyon with the 1400mm. I can vary my damage types to eat shields, eat armor or eat everything.
Tachs are good gank weapons. 1400mm are good gank weapons. 1400mm on a Tempest with a skilled pilot are murder.
P.S.
What does it matter, anyways? If 5 Apocs open up on you with Tachs, you're dead. If 5 Tempests open up on you with 1400mm you're dead. If a highly coordinated, extremely skilled and very lucky group of 5 Raven pilots open up on you with torpedos, you're dead.
End result:

I suppose hybrids need a good gank weapon then, since large hybrids surely are the suck.

The Apoc, being the most "powerful" ship in the game is NOT good for solo PvP. Now couple an Apoc/Tach combo with a couple of BB/Scorps and throw in a few tracking linked Kestrals you have a formiddible fleet.
But on it's own the Apoc/Tach combo is vunerable to say the least and since this is the only ship that can possibly use more than 2 Tachs then it is essential to have escort....
I use mine for NPC Hunts and <whispers> mining.
For solo PvP I use the Scorp/Proj/Hyb/EW combo.
Just my 2 isk.

Amen to that! L hybrids really suck right now. Talk about multiple hits with the nerf bat! Compaired to all other L turrets the hybrids are by far the worst. The 425mm has potential but the rest are garbage. The ammo does take up too much room, the range/damage/rof of the L hybrids is pathetic compaired to other turret types even with good mods on.
Its pathetic when a Gallente bship pilot doesnt use the hybrids because they are so nerfed. On my Mega I use proj, cruise missiles, and tachs. That gives a good spread on the damage types for npc or pvp fights. Im not even going to mention how bad the drones are anymore. All they are good for anymore is missile defence or causing lag on jump ins.

Erhm, I'll bite.... What's wrong with drones? My batch of heavies seems to do rather a lot of damage, with a high RoF.... I take out NPCs at least as fast using 8 heavies as when I'm using 3 M blasters and 3 M rails on my Domi. Is the problem PvP related?

For pvp thereonly worth a damn if your the defender.
By the time I come outta warp and launch the drones.(3rd thing Ill do after I come outta warp)
and get them out and tell them to attack the guys so close to dead theres no point.Plus id probably kill my own drones with all my missiles :(
