Dial up plays EVE just fine. It's not about the data capacity. It's about the latency your connection has. |

Absolute minimum would be a steady ~4-20 kbps, it's an MMO, it doesn't need a lot of bandwidth, just a steady connection. At 30 Mbps you should be more than fine, it'll come in handy for patch downloads. Latency is going to be your biggest issue I think, but there's not a great deal you can do about that. |

agreed, I often play on my phone and depending where I am i may have very little signal on a 3g connection. Eve takes nothing in bandwidth to run. As highlighted the issue will be latency. |

I used to play eve at work on a usb broadband dongle from sprint when they first came out. The connection was crap, I was getting around 256k and the latency was 100ms
But it was just fine for playing games, fleets weren't and issue because it was a lag fest back then anyways. I would routinely use about 100mb of broadband for an entire 8 hour shift. |

think an xDSL 512kb/128kb up/down seems to be the "okay". below that, only depends on latency.
issues will always be patch downloads, but besides that, should be okay-ish.

EVE will still run just fine on a 56k modem...
...good luck trying to download updates at that speed though.

At that point I think I'd just email CCP and ask them to send me a CD... It is really hard to change your signature settings |

Latency on the other hand is relevant.

What would it take for a typical release on a 56.6? Like 39 years or something? Bring back DEEEEP Space! |

I would pay real life $ if you recorded the sound of an EVE Patch being downloaded via a 56k modem...
Same offer goes to anyone who has a 56k modem and doesnt mind recording 5 minutes or so of EVE Patch..... |

I used to run 4 accounts on dialup. EvE is a lightweight when it comes to speed required to play. |

24-36 hours give or take a few hours depending on patch size. I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen. |

It's not not 5 minutes... but no one ever needs to hear that sound for more than necessary.

Some years ago my main Internet connection went down and I had to spend several months arguing with my ISP to have them fix the issue.
(In the end it turned out to be some 'less competent' contractors who had managed swap some connections (and mislabel some wires) during some unrelated upgrade.)
During that time I ran 3 clients over a tethered 3G phone without a hitch.
Minor patches was no issue, esp with the ability to keep the file after download and then apply it to the other 2 (or actually 3) clients.
But when it came to big ones I kept that 3:rd client on an USB stick, and sneaked over to a friend to update and then updatet my clients at home ;)
CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.
