In response to: Ganking miners - What do you get from it?
Miners are at a terrible disadvantage in EVE. The dilemma, how to maximize your mining output while protecting yourself from lulz gankers.
In the world of predator vs prey, EVE favors the predator every time.
I can prove it: Auto WTZ will never be implemented. Why? Not because it makes it easier for the prey, but because it makes it harder for the predator.
Since mining ships have virtually no offensive capabilities, they should have major defensive ones IMO, mining ships should be as heavily tanked as Deep Space Transports.
Also, IGÇÖve notice there are no hard launcher points on mining ships....I cant fit missiles. So mining ships are left intentionally squishy.

1. You have to choose, mining yield or tank, you don't get both. In battle, wether pvp or pve, you have to choose between tank or dps, so why should miners have it easy? 2. Everywhere predator has the advantage over prey, why should EvE be any different. 3. WTZ is already implemented, has been for years, you just don't get it when you're not paying attention. Advantage goes to those who actively play the game, not to bots. Again, this is by design. 4. If you put tank on your mining barge and you put combat drones in the drone bay, most gsnkers will leave you alone. This and the Skiff is already tanked heavier than a DST. 5. It's a mining barge, so just no. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong. |

No complaints here. The barges and income lost by inattentive players has virtually no impact on market prices, because there are many more out there that do pay attention and keep their profit margin intact.
The ships I frequently use, with the exception of some pirate faction ships which saw an increase in popularity with the rebalance, have been declining in cost since I've started playing. Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!-á - Freyya

Fly a Mackinaw or Hulk which are kinda "squishy" and you risk a ganking, but greater ore hold or yield. If you're worried about bad guys, create a butt kicker alt to guard you.
Fly a Skiff (as I do now) and lower your gankability but also reduce yield/capacity vs the previous two.

AFK is the only kind of mining worth doing.
Buffing miners too much though will flood the market with bots even more than it already is.
You should be happy you can AFK mine 99% of the time and never be bothered unless you are doing something really really strange.
Losing a ship every now and then to some kid angry at you for existing isn't a huge deal. In fact, you should by that time be able to replace it very easily if you AFKd enough.
I will never watch the screen and mine or fly 20 jumps through high sec without autopilot on. Unless I am carrying a couple hundred million in cargo perhaps. yet nearly every pvper complains about the increasing costs of pvp ships
Or we can not buff mining so that miners who arent idiots make more money than those that are idiots.

there have been HUGE changes in mining lately. the procurer and skiff are beasts.
i have a great pro/skiff setup that STILL cuts a lot of rock or ice, but has 50k tank and runs burner for speed tanking. all cap stable.
i was attacked this morning twice. once by an inty who couldnt scratch my shields and when the drones got ti him, he ran like a beotch. the 2nd was by a thrasher. point, web..hitting pretty descent, but once the drone hit the field, he was GONE.
they couldnt scratch my shields. the inty i fought while tanking a tripple bs spawn.
step away form the hulk, leave the mack sit unless you have designated security and an intel channel. this fit will get you close to 70% resistance across the board and 11500 tank or so. completely cap stable. turn on hardners and repper when undocking and forget about it.
skiff 1 thermal rig 1 either ice or mercoxit) rig
2 mining laser II's (or ice) 1 RCU II
1 10mn experimental burner 1 scanner II 1 adaptive invul II 1 passive EM ward II 1 small shield rep II
ice /deep core/ modulated stripper II
drones 5 lights for anti-frig/dessy 1 gecko or your choice of 5 medium or 2 heavies or entries. if you have 2 miners, have them mine 40k apart and drop 2 garde II's. assign them to defend the other person. sentries hit hard and will take a chunk out of a dessy who tries to gank u.
there was a kill mail rolling around where a carrier hot dropped several procurers. like 8 of them. THEY KILLED THE CARRIER WITH HAMMER HEADS. the carrier got 1, but the others got the carrier.
enter the field, orbit the material at range to keep speed up. drop drones. its cap stable, quick, smaller sig radius, and a freak on roids when it comes to tanking. procurers and skiffs can really do damage n packs. i dont even engage the rats unless they neut me. i speed tank and dont get below 90% shield.
for the procurer use this:
micro k-exhaust mining laser II experimental 10mn burner small shield booster II em ward field II hardener adaptive nano II
modulated stripper II
thermal rig kinetic rig core defense shield extender.
drones.
do you want you cake or do you wanna eat it? you make more money with the hulk, and thats great for buying new hulks. you make less with the skiff, but youll only buy 1.. |
